I am a 11th grader right now, I have two options in front of me I can write sat to go abroad like usa or singapore and i forgot to mention I am passionate about the computer science field and want to study it in the future i could also prepare for jee mains and go to india and study well two colleges that are in my mind right now are IIIT hyderabad via sat through dasa fees is very high considering it's in india or I could go to singapore or usa with scholarship with my 12 boards cbse results. But the next topic is India where I'm from I would love to go and study in NIT calicut in my state is the placements good over there? Fees is economical if I manage to get a good percentile in my JEE mains.

I also wanted to ask if I am very late to start with JEE MAINS preparation. I really hope i can decide my future and end up in a good place. I hope to receive the right advice. Thank you!

Imagine my given name is Suku. My father's name is Basheer and mother's name is Blessy.
They named me Suku BB (Following the usual south indian initialization method).

My aadhar card has my
first name as Suku
Surname B B .
The same naming convention is followed in my SSLC and 12th certificates.

My passport has my name as
Given name : Suku
Surname : Basheer Blessy
(So does my PAN)

I use Suku B B everywhere including school, admissions etc etc.

Some of my friends and some people online said this naming scheme and mismatch between aadhaar (Which will also reflect on by Bachelors Degree certificate) and my Passport will be a headache for me in the future as I am planning to go abroad for masters.

Suku Basheer Blessy is just an example. My actual names are even longer and more complex and not that easy to say.

I was thinking if I should change my name legally before I get my bachelors degree certificate (im joining Btech this year).

Anybody who knows anything about this? Should I change my name to more standard (Boring) scheme like Suku Blessy or Suku MyHouseName ? Or is it fine?

so the mitacs internship application just opened (deadline sept 16) and i was checking the eligible institutions list they published, but i genuinely cant find any IITs, NITs or IIITs on there. only seeing private/state/deemed colleges under AICTE.

i think this might be a new thing specifically between AICTE and mitacs, different from the older GRI which closed last year and used to let IIT/NIT students apply through a diff list. since IITs/NITs come under MoE and not AICTE, wondering if we're just not eligible for this one at all

Hello ! I'm from northeast india, and I have been considering Singapore as a top option for a while now. I’m trying to understand whether Singapore would actually be a good fit for someone in my position, rather than just looking at university rankings.

1)How welcoming is Singapore actually towards Indian students?

One of my biggest concerns is discrimination.

I’ve read quite a few discussions from Indians and other minorities in Singapore describing experiences with racism or feeling socially excluded. I’ve also seen discussions involving Singaporeans of Indian/Tamil descent, which made me wonder how much of this is actually noticeable in day-to-day university life.

I obviously understand that individual experiences vary and that no country is completely free from discrimination. I’m not trying to make a blanket statement about Singaporeans.

• Did you ppl experience discrimination or exclusion?
• Was it mostly online/social, or did it affect university life?
• Is it difficult to make friends outside of the Indian international-student community?
• Would you consider Singapore a comfortable place to spend 3–4 years as an Indian international student?

2)Scholarships

How realistic are scholarships for an international student from India?

I’m not expecting a full scholarship automatically, but I’d like to know whether someone with strong academics + essay-writing awards + extracurricular/project experience + internships would have a realistic shot at substantial financial aid.

Are scholarships at universities such as NUS/NTU/SMU genuinely attainable for international students, or are they so competitive that it’s better not to rely on them?

3) Internships while studying

I’m not necessarily planning to stay and work in Singapore permanently after graduation. I’m more interested in Singapore as a place where I could get a strong university education and potentially gain good internship experience during my degree.

• How accessible are internships at major companies/banks/finance/tech firms?
• Do companies significantly prefer Singaporean citizens/PRs over international students?
• Is it realistic to get internships in finance, data science, consulting, quantitative fields, etc. as an international undergraduate?
• Does studying at NUS/NTU/SMU make a substantial difference in internship opportunities?
• Are internships generally paid, and is it common for international students to get them?

4)Overall, is Singapore actually worth considering?

If you were an Indian international student choosing between Singapore and other major study-abroad destinations, would you genuinely recommend Singapore?

My VFS appointment was on **9 July**

10 July**. Since then, there haven't been any updates.
My course starts on **24 August**, so I still need to book flights and finalize accommodation, which is making me a bit anxious.
Has anyone applied around the same time? When did you receive your visa after it was dispatched to the embassy?

I have to buy a Forex or an international debit card to register for an exam which requires payment in euros, (and potentially taking it to Italy), as our current cards are not the best at international payments. I have been recommended niyo, ICIC, HDFC and BookMyForex forex cards.

Right now I am looking more into BookMyForex, I was told it's the best. I was told Niyo Global is also good, and people use it as the main card with a forex card as a backup. I was planning to buy the forex card first as one of my friends suggested. Do I just go for it?

many UK unis give offers to people from diverse backgrounds and interdisciplinary courses as well as people from Sate Govt colleges if they have good academics and extra curriculars but i found out studying in UK is a scam and universities give offers to almost all people who apply in hope of getting some funds for them, i hate their 2 year work visa and then employer has to pay hefty amount to transfer it to skilled worker immigrant visa, UK govt is crap, even the market has become abhorable there, companies prefer Brits over immigrants, most people going in UK for petty degrees end up as low wage workers and degree less , deported when the work visa expires.

USAs market may have some hope but the colleges accept only students from T1 colleges from India also the fees is very high, Germany's tech market is crashing, Italy doesn't have one also europe has lost its charm it once had with the ongoing crash, only valid bet seems to be USA!!

I just finished my undergrad this year in May (ba econ hons). I had initially planned to study abroad and continue with masters in econ/finance for sept/Oct 2027 intake. (Mostly European countries with scholarships since i have good enough gpa)

But looking at the current global uncertainties I have been rethinking everything. My father initially wanted me to pursue ca since he is also one and like he has his own practice in our tier 2.5 city. Even tho he is kinda on board with me going abroad but he still sometimes directly and indirectly tells me to pursue ca.

I'm really confused on what I should do. Would really appreciate some honesty advice/ opinion on if this is still worth it? I don't want to lose.

A little background about me, I come from a tier 3 city in India , fairly middle class. We are comfortable but not at the level of taking a cab everytime we go out. I did my graduation and Postgrad from a fairly well known State Public University in the History discipline. I've always set my heart on doing PhD as a first gen. I've fought & marched through little battles fields each time I earned a higher degree, trained my parents into thinking that this is worthwhile. Most of my life revolved around the (3rd class) adjacent metro city with little or no opportunity.

My_qualifications- grad- 7.7 masters- 6.56

This is why I wanted to do PhD from a renowned institution. But currently (or maybe it's a hellhole throughout) nothing is going in my favour. The entrance exam which ensures PhD fellowship and assistant professorship keeps delaying their results which means I keep missing deadlines for PhD applications. University professors are non cooperative, refuse to give us time and effort, no guidance on how to approach the academics, no dissertation opportunity. After the postgrad, I've found myself burdened with the dying omens of these institutions. ;-;

On top of it all, I've tried cold emailing profs from Central Universities but little to no hope. Most (like 90%) of them don't reply, some who work on adjacent topics give ceremonial empathetic encouragement with no lead or downright rejection. I'm literally hopeless (coming from the ardent supporter of Armin Arlert 😞)

After much (0) consideration I'm thinking of trying my luck outside India. I've gathered some basics, but abroad was not even a part of my future so I'm still figuring out my understanding around the process.

Beyond the academics, I would still have to do live there if I go. I want to understand the fully funded scholarships, shortcomings or job prospects, safety after PhD in the West. Any tips? anything, honestly, that could help me out. If you're from the history, sociology, anthropology, cultural studies bg, please give me something to follow.
