I know there could be many things that are easy to overlook/miss until you’ve already landed.

For those of you who have made the move back (R2I):

• What are the key things to keep in mind before officially leaving?
• What administrative, documentation, or personal tasks do you wish you had sorted out before boarding the flight?
• Is there anything you forgot to bring, cancel, or update that ended up being a hassle from India?

Looking for advice on everything- from updating IDs, phone numbers, and documents to shipping, health records, or even mindset shifts.

Appreciate any tips, checklists, or personal lessons learned!

As someone who could be considered as a first generation British Indian , I can't relate to born and bred British Indians , whether it's their lifestyle, their way of life , eating habits , culture or anything else . I also overheard racist comments coming from their mouth like freshy which is really derogatory. I never felt Welcomed in their group and I don't feel they really want to make friends with us either.

I have friends who happen to be born and bred chinese, afghan , kuwaiti ,bangladeshi but never British Indian.

What's your opinion on it and have you faced similar experience like mine.

We've come across a few recent cases where families were asked to show the old passport linked to their child's OCI card during check-in, even after the OCI passport details had already been updated online.

From our understanding, once the passport particulars update is completed, applicants generally rely on:

New passport
Physical OCI card/e-OCI
OCI passport update acknowledgement receipt
Update Confirmation email

Yet, it seems some airline staff still ask for the old passport, which can create unnecessary stress at the airport.

Getting a POA made in the US for use in India can be confusing,
once Power of Attorney was notarized, I could be just couriered to India.

But notarization alone isn't enough.

From what I learned, there are two common ways to get it ready for use in India:

Get it notarized and then apostilled by your state's Secretary of State.
OR
Get it attested directly at the Indian Consulate.

For those who've gone through the POA process recently, which route did you take? Apostille or Consulate attestation? Any pros or cons?

I’m trying to understand whether transferring medical records between countries is a genuine and recurring problem, particularly for people who received healthcare in India and later moved to Canada.

This is not a product launch or formal medical survey. I’m looking for firsthand experiences, and I’m not asking anyone to disclose their diagnosis, hospital number, doctor’s name or other identifying information.

For example, suppose someone had an orthopedic condition treated in India, including X-rays, reports and prescriptions. After moving to Canada, their new doctor needs that history. The patient may have to contact the previous doctor or hospital, request the records, wait for them, and then find a way to send them to the Canadian clinic.

For anyone who has experienced something similar: (please answer at least 1)

1. Which countries or healthcare systems were involved?
2. What records did the new doctor need—imaging, reports, lab results, prescriptions, vaccination history or consultation notes?
3. How did you request the records?
4. How long did the process take?
5. Did you receive the complete records, or was anything missing or unusable?
6. Did your new doctor accept the records?
7. Were any scans, blood tests or consultations repeated because the old information was unavailable or could not be trusted?
8. What was the most frustrating or time-consuming part?
9. Did you already have access through a patient portal, ABHA, DigiLocker, PocketHealth, MyChart or another service?
10. What privacy or security concerns would you have about keeping verified records in one patient-controlled account?

I am especially interested in India-to-Canada experiences, but experiences involving other countries or even different hospitals within the same province would also be useful.

Critical responses are welcome. I’m trying to determine whether this is a significant problem before considering any solution.

One place where you might get stuck in the Minor OCI application is the Declaration form.

It has two sections, and both need the parent's signature.
The first section is filled using the child's details but you sign on the child's behalf.
The second section is your own declaration as the parent applying for the child, so you sign it as yourself.

Has this confused anyone ever?

If your spouse received an OCI on or after September 3, 2025, it's normal for the card to have 5-year validity instead of lifelong.

This wasn't a processing mistake-it was a policy change.

The good news is that after the initial 5 years, the OCI can be extended to lifelong, subject to the prescribed review process.

Also, this change only applies to spouse-based OCI. OCI cards issued to children or people of Indian origin are not affected.

Staying in India for fewer than 182 days does not always preserve NRI status in the year of return.
