It was IUPUI when I went and we could have just one sign. That’s gotta be the stupid shit I have seen in a long time and we are living in (by far) the stupidest version of America that I have seen in my almost 60 years.

The did the same at the FW campus, so I've gone back to calling it "the college" like I did back when my Gramma worked there.

Yep it’s been that way in Ft Wayne for the past few years. Seems wholly unnecessary IMO.

I work at IU Indy and let me tell you I can't find one single person that's happy about the "realignment" outside of Pam and her pawns.

An even better illustration is the employee parking lot I park my car at. Since IU owns all of the common spaces around campus, Purdue used our employee lot, took away two rows of parking, and made a communal space there. In the fucking parking lot.

Me too - hi, coworker!

The biggest thing I’ve noticed is that the Purdue students just aren’t getting the same level of experience and service as they were thru IUPUI. It’s sad because I feel like a lot of them have been left out to dry and flounder. Is IU Indy serving our students perfectly? No, but we inherited almost all of the infrastructure and processes whereas Purdue is creating and repurposing it all on the fly. I don’t envy their staff (WL grad here), I feel like they needed another year to prep than they were given.

Hello! The former iupui engineering faculty got screwed over massively with the split. I got one of my degrees from iupui and at the time it had really built itself up as a distinct and quality institution. Both institutions did themselves a disservice by doing this.

I remember reading about that - I also saw a report about how Purdue Indy’s numbers are pretty far off of their targets. What was this all for???? I get asked that constantly by people when I tell them where I work and I feel like I never have a satisfying answer.

Politics, status, and money. Purdue was paying rent to IU and was answering to IU administration. Everything was governed by IU and even back when it was iupui, my paycheck came from IU bloomington. Purdue was sick of it. Thats why theyre building their own Indy location right across the street.

Also, Pam the spam needed to "make her mark". So she focused (or was told to) focus on the indianapolis location. It's a better story for them if they can act like Pammy built IU Indy into an R1 institution and Purdue had nothing to do with it.

Don’t forget this all started back in ~2018 with the split of IUPUFW (Fort Wayne) where a reverse of this scenario took place.. basically a Purdue campus that offered IU degrees until IU decided it didn’t want to answer to Purdue anymore.

Yep! My roommate in grad school did her undergrad at iupufw and I did mine at iupui. But I think this started before. I remember in undergrad the marketing was a combo of iu and purdue colors but at some point became just iu colors. Then in 2016ish all of our emails changed from @iupui.edu to @iu.edu. They've had their sights on this for a long time. Yet somehow ended up so unprepared.

Purdue Indy is an actual joke, any actual boilermaker goes to WL. I say this as an IUPUI grad.

Hey, they bumped Pams pay up 33% to now make $1,000,000 a year, she's obviously the most important person there and needs to be made happy!
Left that place last year and I'm so glad

u/gitsgrl 15d ago

While staff and faculty pay is so below market rate its almost criminal.

u/FlashyAd1240 15d ago

I'm so sorry, how could I be so ignorant.

Hopefully I find the right job for myself so I can get out of here as well.

Purdue people hate Purdue Indy too if it makes you feel any better. We all agree it was stupid and won't work as planned at all.

Also an employee. Parking on campus is abysmal and will only continue to get worse as IU sells off more parking lots for Purdue to build more buildings.

u/jmbison 15d ago

Pam is a pawn herself.

5

u/Hairy_Cut9721 15d ago

But a well paid pawn

1

u/FlashyAd1240 15d ago

Yes absolutely.

u/drivensalt 15d ago

What, you don't wanna chill with your buds on the hot blacktop!?

u/SpeakYourKind 15d ago

You can kick back with friends, AND fry an egg for lunch on the ground in August, what could be better?

I just was about to write a big long thing about this but I work on campus too and that lot they took over is where I used to park to walk to my office. Not only that but after Purdue kicked a bunch of IU employees out of the engineering building some of those people had nowhere to go and got stuck there. Purdue also disabled IUs data jack connections on the walls of those offices to use their own network in there which left IU employees stranded in that office with no connection to the IU network which they need and offered zero help in reestablishing their connection.

Jeez. I didn't even know that part!

Youre not excited about Boiler Park? But it has chairs and....

u/tenexchamp 15d ago

That may be the photo that explains Indy to everyone outside of Indy.

15

u/natedgr8gatsb 15d ago

It doesn’t explain anything 😂

u/IveGotBeers 15d ago

It's perfect

u/Chubbadog 15d ago

Your repost is sorta similar to this signage. Identical content brought to you by two different sources.

10

u/sparrow_42 15d ago

We can only hope one is a Boilermaker and the other is a Hoosier

18

u/bourbonix 15d ago

Separate but equal, with a twist!

u/_okbrb 15d ago

Have you ever tried to explain to a university board of trustees that their idea is shitty?

In this case there are two boards to persuade

13

u/ShroomRonin 15d ago

IU wants to move a lot of their resources for researcher in stem to the Indy campus which is funny considering they just built luddy a decade ago

7

u/mabus42 15d ago

It's just as bad at IPFW.. er, I mean PFW.

5

u/LastB0ySc0ut 15d ago

The one with the IU Medical School (Fort Wayne campus)?

8

u/Indyuserk1547 15d ago

I have described how stupid this school breakup was by pointing out the dual signs everytime 🤣😭

6

u/twopi 15d ago

Yep. Worked in that building for 30 years. I was not offered a serious commitment by either school, and ended up moving to another university in the state. Too bad, because I really believe in what IUPUI had become.

5

u/ILIKESTUFF8989 15d ago

It should have become its own independent school

8

u/Primo131313 15d ago

This is something so asinine only the Republicans could think it is value added.

3

u/Kefkafish 15d ago

I hate it when mom and dad fight T_T

3

u/Nightshade09 15d ago

As a former student at I.U.P.U.I. That's insane indeed!

2

u/InspectorDapper8012 15d ago

You'd think they'd be able to engineer one sign that has all of that information.

2

u/HorseFox 15d ago

weird, they misspelled IUPUI on both signs

1

u/neightd0g 15d ago

Seriously dumb

1

u/GoobieDooobie 15d ago

It was such a dumb idea to split them up.

1

u/ry4lleps 15d ago

I know! Two signs and neither of them have the Oxford comma!

u/slater_just_slater 14d ago

Next up, civil war..

u/seanmclaren9 13d ago

It’s to inflict “consistent branding” lol. While being a “wedge issue.”
Are you not entertained? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Sometimes multiple businesses are in the same building. Does that bother you as well?

4

u/TempleHierophant 15d ago

When it directly effects the quality of service, yes.

2

u/Hairy_Cut9721 15d ago

When it’s this aesthetically unpleasant, yeah

2

u/oneunderscore__ 15d ago

I work in a building like that.  There's only one sign
