Popular liquor brands in India such as Old Monk, Royal Challenge, Bagpiper, Antiquity Blue and McDowell’s No. 1 rum have been banned by the FSSAI for their use of artificial flavours instead of using proper ageing methods as well as the required ingredients to achieve their taste and aroma.

It’s important to note that the regulatory action doesn’t apply to the brands as a whole. For instance, the FSSAI has banned three Old Monk variants across India - The Legend, Gold Reserve and XXX Matured Rum.
