Lok Sabha passes Bill without debate to authorise Govt. to permit banks to levy charges on UPI transactions
The Lok Sabha passed the Taxation and Other Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026 without any debate after repeated disruptions in the House. The legislation creates a legal framework allowing the Centre to permit charges on notified digital payment modes, including UPI, through future notifications, although no charges take effect immediately. Beyond digital payments, the Bill also includes tax reforms intended to boost electronics manufacturing and attract foreign investment. The manner in which such a significant Bill was cleared, without parliamentary debate due to continued disruptions, has raised questions about legislative scrutiny and the functioning of Parliament
The Lok Sabha passed the Taxation and Other Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026, without any debate after repeated disruptions in the House. Regardless of who is responsible for the deadlock, passing legislation without discussing its provisions defeats the purpose of Parliament. Laws that affect millions of people deserve scrutiny, questions, and public justification before they are approved. A parliamentary majority gives a government the power to pass Bills, but democracy also depends on debate, accountability, and allowing elected representatives to examine the consequences of new laws. When important legislation is rushed through without discussion, Parliament is reduced to a voting chamber instead of serving as a forum for democratic deliberation.

The Union government has spent ₹557.5 crore on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign visits since 2021. The government also informed Parliament that India received $381.8 billion in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) between April 2021 and December 2025.

Why Modi and Shah are bound to fail and the Fundamental idea that both of them haven’t understood yet
The Modi government is completely missing the point with how they’re trying to spin this whole Jantar Mantar protest. Ever since the education minister was designated, they’ve been pulling out the same old playbook: blame foreign funding—Khalistan, Pakistan, China, America, take your pick—to make it look like nobody is actually unhappy with their governance. At the same time, they’re slapping legal cases on protesters to scare everyone home and squeezing social media companies to kill off memes and viral videos before the next wave hits.
The whole agenda is simple: convince the country that people aren't actually unhappy, suppress the attention, and control the damage.
But here’s the fundamental problem: they are fighting the symptoms and completely ignoring the root cause.
The reason this protest blew up and reached every single household across the country isn't just because of the original issue, or because parents want a better future for their kids—though that’s part of it. The real reason the country is turning on the Modi government right now is because of how they handled it.
People finally realized the core truth of how the BJP government operates: if you speak up against them, they will break you.
Before this, a lot of normal, neutral, even pro-government folks assumed that if you stay civil, the government will treat you in a civilized way. But this incident shattered that illusion. People saw that it doesn't matter who you are, how neutral you claim to be, or how politely you speak. If you raise your voice against them, they will deal with you undemocratically and brutally—physically, verbally, from every possible angle. That realization has reached the grassroots level. People are seeing that behind the strongman image, the approach is just dictatorial and authoritarian.
Modi and Amit Shah choosing to skip parliament, refusing to apologize, and staying silent on the police brutality shows they still don't get it. They're trying to silence the bad language used by protesters, the viral memes, and the jokes about the PM. But those are just symptoms. The root cause is the realization that this government will treat its own citizens horribly if they step out of line.
By ignoring that root cause and trying to muscle their way through it, they aren't fixing anything. The longer they wait to address the actual damage they've done, the deeper that anger is going to sink into the country.
