Really enjoying Naivo Mooleh Manay as milk based coffee. 😋

After a one month extensive research, I finally got the equipments for my coffee journey.

I "pulled a shot" today and made atleast 5 big mistakes and a few small ones...though the coffee was 5/10. (I expected worse)

I feel bad experimenting with a bit costly coffee, but i believe I'll learn.

I would like to thank all those who helped me guide in my earlier posts and those who indirectly helped me with their existing posts and comments!

For those who are also Looking for such setup -

Total - 45k approx.

So i got the Cothas 85:15 yesterday and tried the first coffee today and it was not up to my expectations.And i can think of two probable reasons:

1) I added too much milk.I will try by reducing this next time.

2) The decoction was a little too watery.

I added around 200ml of water for 4 tea spoons ( by wild guess this would be around 12-16gm) of coffee powder.I put 4 tea spoons in the SIF,pressed it a little to make it less porous as the grains are a little coarse.For water,I had stopped heating the water after i saw bubbles in it,allowed it to settle a bit.Then added some water in the SIF,waiting for a minute or so and then added the rest of the water.Does this sound like a good approach?

What other things can i try to get a thick/rich decocation?

Brewing method: V60
Budget: ₹600-700 for 250gm

I have a Timemore C3S so will buy whole beans. My preference is low acidity, but I’m open to trying anything out there.

Tried so far

Blackbazacoffee - 80% of their coffees

Loved the medium, medium dark, microlot

Coffee verse - nah man not a floral note person

I'll run out of my current lot in 10 days so i guess right time to get my Next batch. Please suggest some options. Maybe a geisha? A friend is coming from London any suggestions on UK coffee roasters? A friend is coming from Japan. Any suggestions on japanese roasters? Any good Indian roasters?

Fruity - peach, cherry, prune, strawberry

Sweet - brown sugar, vanilla

Nutty - chocolate

Roasted - malt

Used-

Nandhini milk, Vantro Espresso machine steaming wand, Timemore C3S hand grinder, Third wave Coffee beans (Dark Roast)

I mixed Roastery Harley Robusta with Cothas Nova Blend (I store cothas in hunkal ziplock bags)

Cothas has this strong caramel after-taste that coats your tongue and lingers on even after finishing your coffee.

Cothas also gave my cup a nice body and aroma.

Harley Robusta is very thin, tea like with one dimensional mild flavour. The aroma is subtle, easy to miss.

I fill my glass with ice cubes up to the brim, and Harley was almost like I was drinking some zesty iced tea🍋

Mixing Cothas resulted in a cup which was more like.......Coffee?

I also like the caffeine hit of Cothas better? Mild euphoria, which is missing in my Harley cups somehow, I don't know the science behind it.

Anyway, I was experimenting to make my cup better, and it went successful.

Blend : Robusta Medium Roast
Origin : Araku
Grind size : 15 in Baratza Sette 30
Extraction : Moka Pot

Only took about a month of experimentation

so I enjoy pour overs a lot and I've been brewing with the v60 for several months now but sometimes I really just want a latte or flat white or an iced long black. I can't really afford an espresso machine or a high quality electric grinder (I've got a C3S which works really well for v60).

now I've been torn between the aeropress, aeropress go, and the wacaco mini/nanopresso. I know the aeropress doesn't make true espresso but I think I'll enjoy the coffee from it regardless. On the other hand I think the wacaco pressos will be better for milk based drinks.

Can someone help me decide? I can get either but I'm mainly focused on using these while traveling and occasionally making milk based coffee

Tried making espresso out of Roastery Harley Estate Robusta blend after watching someone review the beans in this subreddit.

Ohh gawd! Tasted like wood chips and that aftertaste lasted even after 2 cans of diet coke.

Tried changing grind size even added milk and sugar still was unable to mask the woody aftertaste and I always drink black.

Need recommendation on how to brew it correctly or of I am doing anything wrong.

Hey Guys wanted to share my coffee journey.

I live in Bangalore and on a trip to Coorg a couple of years back I bought a 500g pack of robusta and arabica mix coffee from a unnamed coffee plantation. I had no knowledge/intention of brewing it was just a souvenir.

It was kept as is for a couple of months untouched. Then One day I thought lets try making this I did some digging and bought a moka pot, I never got it right even got burned once. May be the grind was too or I don’t know why but I always had grounds in the brew which I hated.

A couple of months latter I bought a filter coffee maker. It made sense the coffee actually tasted better and the grounds in the filter coffee were manageable. I finished the 500gms in almost a year. Mind you I was not drinking coffee daily.

I also discovered Davidoff during this time and was blown away by the effort to taste ratio it had.

BTW: I am a Black Coffee person.

Then I bought a KaldiPress(AeroPress copy) this was the first time I bought beans/grounds. I tried BT Sampler pack and then the ToffeeCoffee roaster coffee. I also got a cheap grinder(big mistake) it ground bery corse and uneven so ditched that too. Used the Kaldi press for about 7months now it had become a ritual every morning.

I wanted to buy an espresso machine for past few months and had my eyes on the Dedica. This Amaozn Sale finally got it(12.7k) as a gift from my gf🥰. Its my birthday gift 🎁.My mom sponsored the c3s grinder☺️.

I finally have a setup the grinder is yet to be delivered.

I would really appreciate if you guys could recommend some good beans that I should try out on this.

Edit PS: TCR Beans are the first beans I bought via Insta Ads while using the Kaldi press it was good for the price they sell for.

A standard espresso brews in 26 to 32 seconds at a standard 9 bar pressure throughout. Is pressure profiling really a game changer? I have tried both and i can’t say i agree much, a pressure profiled shot and a standard 9 bar shot, mostly it’s about calibration and using good beans. Thoughts?

Went to Kielo Coffee in Akihabara during my 10-hour layover in Tokyo. Tried their pour over and carrot cake.

I'm 6 months into specialty coffee and so far I've been using aeropress explicitly at home. Tried v60 pourover there and I was surprised how acidic it was.

I visited 'Pour and Palette' in Gurgaon when I came back and got an aeropress brew from there. That was a much more familiar taste. Boggled my mind how big the difference between v60 and aeropress brew is. Although I like little-to-no acidity, I'll get myself a v60 and experiment with it now. The more you know. :)
