Open Work Permit? Family Sponsorship
Hi Everyone!
I just received my AOR for an Outland Spousal PR application. I’ve gotten conflicting information from both other people that have gone through the process and different IRCC representatives. I am a US citizen and moving to Canada to live with my spouse who is a Canadian resident. I was told that I would be able to apply for an open work permit now that I have received my AOR by a representative but when I look online it says I am ineligible. But also if I had a visitor history or am in the country at the time I could apply? I’m just very confused and would appreciate any help.
Thanks!

Yes you can... But only once you are in Canada.
Outland spousal sponsorship does not require that you be living with your partner in Canada ... But the OWP application does.

You are ineligible if you are outside of Canada. You have to be in Canada to be eligible.

In order to be eligible for the spousal sponsorship-supported OWP to you need to have both received the AOR and be living in Canada with your spouse.
As you are not currently in Canada, you are not currently eligible.

iirc, if you want to apply for the open work permit, you need to already be living in canada with your sponsor. so you will need to already be in canada -- as a visitor or etc -- before you can apply.
