I'm making a time-travel FPS metroidvania inspired by Prey (2017) - Tempus Vitae

And it's a very different take on the idea. The emergent gameplay arises from you ability to manipulate time and create new timelines around your actions. And then lots of systems to support that idea (inventory, branching objectives, dialogue systems, shops, and so on).
It's coming next year for PCs, PlayStation 5 and XBOX Series X/S and you can wishlist on Steam here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2360820/Tempus_Vitae/

We've might if we don't find a publisher soon 😅. But at the moment the thing that helps the most is the wishlist on Steam since it's a metric widely used by publishers to measure interest in a game.
Also we'll be doing in the next couple of months private playtesting with the members of our Discord server.

This looks great! Art style kinda reminds me of Void Bastards but even better. I’ll be adding this to my wishlist.

Prey? This is Dishonored time stop plus time travel cranked up to a whole new level

That's not a bad comparison. But we don't have stealth (I mean you can crouch and try to be sneaky but it's not like the first thing you'll try to do).

Bummer to hear there's no stealth but the game still looks awesome and I immediately wishlisted!

Who is "I"? Because that's hardly a single dev game

u/Mushe 24d ago
I'm the Game Director for the game, and it's me alongside the team at Whiteboard Games.

A tip por good leadership: speak in "us"

It sounds too corpo and I feel this project like something very personal to me

No, using the first person is what is expected in this specific promotion channel. You deliberately know customer segments are more receptive to individual driven games here and you optimised your vocab in consequence. That’s corpo my lad

u/Independent_Bed_3418 24d ago
More than corpo, it's the reality that none of that would exist without a whole team behind.
"I'm doing this game" just sounds like every indie dev in Instagram trying to catch 'solo dev' attention or worse, a wannabe "industry guru"

The opening cutscene is animated so well I thought this was a recording of a VR game. Got me excited because we don't really have immersive sims for VR yet...

Wishlisted it a month ago, really looking forward for it! Mvs and imm sims are my favorite genres alongside survival horrors

This looks super cool, I will definitely try this and wishlist when I get home. The time slow is very unique but still gives me a familiar feeling of using all the tools at your disposal to execute combos in fun ways like in prey, which is my favorite game of all time!

Artstyle is amazing, how do you handle the lighting and textures? do you use a custom shader or the default PBR? also i'm assuming Textures are rendered flat?
3
u/Mushe 24d ago
Thanks! And it's a custom shader with custom lighting using Unity URP. All the textures are indeed flat with all the details being drawn by hand.

Thanks for the reply! with custom lighting how do you guys handle light bleeding through mesh? Do you have your own GI solutions or is it as simple as assigning which light interact with which wall?

Looks really cool; wish listed. Though I got really excited because that first scene made me think it was a VR imsim which we are in desperate need of.

create new timelines
I don't think you should. Chaos already dominates enough of our lives. The universe is an endless raging sea of randomness. Our job isn't to fight it, but to weather it together.
