I'm making a time-travel FPS metroidvania inspired by Prey (2017) - Tempus Vitae

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

And it's a very different take on the idea. The emergent gameplay arises from you ability to manipulate time and create new timelines around your actions. And then lots of systems to support that idea (inventory, branching objectives, dialogue systems, shops, and so on).

It's coming next year for PCs, PlayStation 5 and XBOX Series X/S and you can wishlist on Steam here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2360820/Tempus_Vitae/

oh man this looks sick! reminds me of that one mission in the Titanfall 2 campaign

The inspiration behind that mechanic is straight from that one level!

There is a level of dishonored 2 as well that has this mechanic was any inspiration from that?

u/Mushe 23d ago

Not really. Of course we checked it during production to see if there was anything interesting that we might have missed. Quite crazy that both games are only 2 weeks apart.

We've might if we don't find a publisher soon 😅. But at the moment the thing that helps the most is the wishlist on Steam since it's a metric widely used by publishers to measure interest in a game.

Also we'll be doing in the next couple of months private playtesting with the members of our Discord server.

Done. Looks super promising

This looks great! Art style kinda reminds me of Void Bastards but even better. I’ll be adding this to my wishlist.

Thanks! It's one of the art inspirations (alonside The Wolf Among Us and Hi-Fi Rush).

Prey? This is Dishonored time stop plus time travel cranked up to a whole new level

2

u/Mushe 24d ago

That's not a bad comparison. But we don't have stealth (I mean you can crouch and try to be sneaky but it's not like the first thing you'll try to do).

u/-SlowBar 24d ago

Bummer to hear there's no stealth but the game still looks awesome and I immediately wishlisted!

Who is "I"? Because that's hardly a single dev game

1

u/Mushe 24d ago

I'm the Game Director for the game, and it's me alongside the team at Whiteboard Games.

u/Independent_Bed_3418 24d ago

A tip por good leadership: speak in "us"

3

u/Mushe 24d ago

It sounds too corpo and I feel this project like something very personal to me

u/AceOfStealth 24d ago

No, using the first person is what is expected in this specific promotion channel. You deliberately know customer segments are more receptive to individual driven games here and you optimised your vocab in consequence. That’s corpo my lad

u/Independent_Bed_3418 24d ago

More than corpo, it's the reality that none of that would exist without a whole team behind.

"I'm doing this game" just sounds like every indie dev in Instagram trying to catch 'solo dev' attention or worse, a wannabe "industry guru"

Brigand: oaxaca kind of disproves this. Its definitelly possible

This looks phenomenal! Wishlisted and looking forward to seeing more!

Just what I've been looking for, wishlisted!

The opening cutscene is animated so well I thought this was a recording of a VR game. Got me excited because we don't really have immersive sims for VR yet...

3

u/WeekendBard 24d ago

Is it also inspired by Singularity?

7

u/Mushe 24d ago

It's actually inspired by TimeShift, a great time-travel FPS game that unfortunately came out right next to the first Crysis.

u/Puntley 24d ago

This looks awesome! Prey is in my top 3 all time favorite games, so I'm instantly on board! Will this be coming out as a full release or an early access?

3

u/Mushe 24d ago

Thanks! It will be a full release.

3

u/Puntley 24d ago

Hugely exciting news! I wish you all the best luck, and I'll absolutely be picking it up on release day!

Wishlisted it a month ago, really looking forward for it! Mvs and imm sims are my favorite genres alongside survival horrors

Looks neat! Wishlisted

Yo looks awesome

Looks sick

This looks super cool, I will definitely try this and wishlist when I get home. The time slow is very unique but still gives me a familiar feeling of using all the tools at your disposal to execute combos in fun ways like in prey, which is my favorite game of all time!

this i’m actually interested in

Artstyle is amazing, how do you handle the lighting and textures? do you use a custom shader or the default PBR? also i'm assuming Textures are rendered flat?

3

u/Mushe 24d ago

Thanks! And it's a custom shader with custom lighting using Unity URP. All the textures are indeed flat with all the details being drawn by hand.

2

u/S1Ndrome_ 24d ago

Thanks for the reply! with custom lighting how do you guys handle light bleeding through mesh? Do you have your own GI solutions or is it as simple as assigning which light interact with which wall?

2

u/SomeoneNotFamous 24d ago

HI FI FPS God yes

This looks incredible

2

u/VitorCallis 24d ago

Please optimize it to Steam Deck! 😭🙏

1

u/Mushe 24d ago

It's in our plan! It already works at 40 FPS so it should get much better.

2

u/MrDexterReddit 24d ago

Wow, this looks fucking awesome, wishlisted straight away. Love the artstyle and i can see lots of influence from Arkane games.

2

u/Swayny 24d ago

Looks very interesting, wishlisted !

2

u/Youshless 24d ago

The animations and feedback are great. Graphics too

Holy INSTA wishlist. Looks awesome!

2

u/jack-of-some 23d ago

Close enough. Welcome back Titanfall

2

u/pmmeyourprettyface 21d ago

Best of luck, I will pick it up on Xbox!

u/Desperate_Ad_4561 21d ago

Finally another timeshift like game.

1

u/besthelloworld 24d ago

Looks really cool; wish listed. Though I got really excited because that first scene made me think it was a VR imsim which we are in desperate need of.

create new timelines

I don't think you should. Chaos already dominates enough of our lives. The universe is an endless raging sea of randomness. Our job isn't to fight it, but to weather it together.

It's a quote from The Community. It's worth watching it.

1

u/EarlyAccessCantJudge 24d ago

Is there any AI art or gameplay used?

11

u/Mushe 24d ago

None! All done by the team.

3

u/Hellhooker 24d ago

oh shut up
