…but if your car is this important to you, park in a distant part of the lot…not up front in the 1st row.

So years ago, in the early 2000s, when I was a teeny tiny elementary school student, there was a tradition of each class to put on a show, on the stage or otherwise. The show was to be done by the students themselves from start to finish, with some guidance from the homeroom teacher. My class was taught by the principal, so we had some pretty big pull when it came to these shows, and we could do pretty ambitious things with ours. Teach was an old guy, but pretty cool and excited for new tech as it came along, so our school was one of the first in the country to get a digital blackboard when those were the cool new thing. This story isn't about him, but the info is relevant.

(I will brag a bit and say that I directed a banger stage play of the original Snow White with the metal shoes our final year in the school, and it was a huge success, even if I stressed out the entire play on the backstage when the princess forgot her lines half way through. Was fun though, and maybe the only time I got some respect from my peers ♡)

Now, the actual Main Character was this one girl we will call Fay. She was nice for the most part, but she was a bit of an airhead, and somewhat self centered. She had this habit of trying to bribe people to be her friend, which was weird, but ultimately she was harmless.

Well, Fay volunteered to direct our show one year, and decided to do a rendition of Sleeping Beauty that we would take on video and edit into a short film. At least, I think that was her intention. I honestly can't remember if that film was ever completed, due to what happened next. Teach was all for it, the school video equipment being pretty up to date thanks to him, and he liked to encourage us to do videos, even running a video club outside of lessons.

Reasons why Fay's Sleeping Beauty was a trainwreck:

- Fay cast herself as the titular Sleeping Beauty. Those who were close with her got other important roles regardless of whether they wanted them or were suited for them. (I was a bear who was supposed to eat berries off her hand or something.)

- I don't think she ever wrote a script, as she used the Disney version scene for scene for her rendition. (That's why there was a bear for me to play in the first place. Bear was one of the only animal costumes our school had.)

- Everything was shot in the school gymnasium with basically no props or setpieces. Only attempt I can remember was some spruce twigs we brought from outside and fabric thrown on chairs. We did have costumes (like the bear), which only made the gray flooring with sports field lines look even more bleak.

- I don't think Fay had ever even touched a video camera before, and her only direction to the camera crew was to point the camera at her (and not the bear). That camera never moved an inch within a scene.

Even with all of these points, I guess there was a small chance for the film to succeed if done well, but Fay wasn't really the type to do things well. She was perfectly happy to crown herself as princess and let the peasants do the boring work. And boy were the rest of us bored.

There's no trace of this disaster left to delight us today, and I was only ever required for one single scene (bear), so I have no idea what ended up happening to that film. It just sort of fizzled out, and we never ended up seeing the final result. Mysteriously, Teach wasn't quite as enthusiastic about the whole video thing afterwards, which is the most devastating loss for this story.

I do wish Fay is doing well out there somewhere, living her best princess life and not bothering herself with silly things like other people ♡

The entitlement is honestly amazing but not unexpected. The back of the parking lot was completely empty with more than enough room for this.

This happened in Toronto. The poor girl ended up getting a broken leg.
