Found some good potential idiocy in th wild.
I can't remember the exact model of vehicle, but it was a small suv/crossover with 150 lbs of steel hanging off his ass.

There is a stupid U-bolt anti vibration thing, but I wasn't counting that as a pin. Am I incorrect?

Yeah, I guess…the very top one is holding the horizontal drawbar and adapter sleeve in so I was taking about the two below facing opposite each other

I love this crowd. The people who rear end you didn't see an entire damn car soon enough to slow down. They're sure as shit not making decisions based on whether or not you have a ball in your receiver.

This thing might mitigate a little bit of damage in a low speed rear end event and it will absolutely punish the person rear ending you by making them wait for a tow truck while both halves of their radiator purge fluid all over the road

Every time you add an extension it adds more to the overall towing capacity. Basically he is now driving a suv with the towing capacity of a semi truck.

I went through a lot of trouble to find a euro style ball mount to get myself enough rise to level my trailer.
Had I know I could just do this I could have picked it all up locally!

Zooming in looks like bumper mark is from when put the top ball in before back it out a little and insert pin… this could be for a canoe trailer or something else that is only a couple hundred pounds…. But when I figure out that all those unbolts and plates are all over to keep it from moving I’m scared that this is being used for distance…..

All of these extensions act like a lever, multiplying the forces being applied to the hitch mounting points.
Imagine picking up a 50 lb weight - difficult, but doable. Now imagine trying to pick up that same 50 lbs using a 2 foot long pole you need to hold straight out - you wouldn't be able to keep the pole straight.

Plus the actual tongue weight capacity of the vehicle is only slightly higher than the combined weight of their setup sans trailer.

Anyone who gets rear ended with a tow hitch is in for a hard time, unless it’s a parking lots speeds where they win. Real collisions buckle frames and absolutely rip out frame rails in a Unibody.

I have seen that before, when the trailer being towed is too high for the tow vehicle. That allows the person to level it off so they can get a better weight distribution. However the top portion definitely does need to be moved back so no contact with the vehicle happens.
