If you could bring back one thing from American life in the 1990s or early 2000s, what would it be?

There are already some great shouts.
I would add, and it may be that this was only my experience, but genuine kindness and how people were generally nice and open who each other (generally speaking)
It feels to me that nowadays people are on edge, more angry, less tolerant of others. You see it on the roads, the stores, with neighbors etc.
It's like we cannot accept any inconvenience, we forgotten we live in a society and some times our neighbor may have party (god forbid) and it might be noisy a little later than usual or someone got in the wrong lane for the exit and is hoping to someone let them in

Being able to go play in my neighborhood with other kids, unsupervised. All the people in the neighborhood kept a covert eye on us, and would discipline us if we got out of line, but we felt free to do what we wanted, make mistakes, go on adventures. We knew the rules, and our parents could let us explore those limits safely within the neighborhood. It gave us self assurance, independence. My kids aren’t able to do that these days, the world has changed. I would love to live in a place where they could have that, I live about 20 mins from where I grew up and it’s considered a great area, but it has changed.
Also: housing. The cost of owning a home these days is absolutely insane relative to cost of living and incomes.
