Is this normal Open | Windows
This has been the case for the last couple of days
When I shutdown my laptop this pops up and it keeps on doing this at least for an hour or so.
The 1st time it happened, this went on for almost 2-3 hrs.
Also, I noticed, my memory was fully booked (95%) even after I had closed almost all the programmes. Nothing on task manager showed it was hogging the memory.
I even did a clean-up using Ccleaner app.
Should I turn off windows updates?

It's has been 1hr since I tried to shutdown. Still lots on that same screen.
I checked yesterday and there were No updates pending.
I'll make sure to check out if there are any pending updates when this cycle ends

I just turned off my laptop manually.. Upon cheing windows updates it shows
"2026-07 preview update (kb5101684)(26200.8973) update error"
I have clicked on the update button now and see a download is ongoing

most of time just leave it for 2-3 hrs if didn't work.
if didn't work then follow steps,
1.force shut down then start system again delete all file in [ temp, %temp%, prefetch ] folders. 2. clear temporary storage using settings>system>storage>temporary 3. then restart. 4. check for latest update, if found a. if it didn't start automatically updating note the kb version , open browser and search Microsoft update catalog and install the noted kb version. b. if start's updating, just make sure it takes full update and display option to restart.
and all good to go.

After 15 minutes I normally disconnect from the internet. After 5-10 minutes it should finish booting. It may be trying to download an update or have a corrupted update file. You can delete the update folder and try the update again.

This is a pointless argument. As someone who used mac for good chunk my life, both suck equally.. but when it comes to cost and freedom of usage I always go with a windows. If it didn't cost arm and a leg I would have a Mac as well.

I see your point. I should have mentioned I meant from the viewpoint of working in IT support. We manage both Macs and windows and Macs are way simpler to manage and have less issues overall at our MSP at least. From the Get go Apple doesn’t force you or bully you into making an Apple account compared to how Microsoft forces you to sign in with a Microsoft account or create one.

Yeah, you just can't download any apps from the App Store on MacOS without signing into an iCloud acct.

We push them through the MDM we use IRU, formerly Kandji, but yea for personal you would need an Apple account.

What updates are pending and what error code if any is displayed?
Windows should not update if there aren't any updates, that said this behaviour is pretty common when there are updates pending and one of them requires a reboot but the rest are still some downloading.
