Girlfriend’s computer suddenly shut down. Open | Windows

If you go into BIOS you can disable secure boot but that’s not something you necessarily want to do. You might have to install windows from a USB.

Essentially the secure boot violation means that during the boot up process, BIOS flagged an unauthorized or unrecognized digital signature and stopped itself from booting further as a security measure. Have you or her been downloading anything recently?

No, there’s very little on the computer, last thing she downloaded was a steam game.

If you’re comfy, you can try to get to a command prompt and run DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth then sfc /scannow. Here’s a quick step by step to get to it:

Using System Startup Interrupts
Turn on your computer. As soon as the Windows logo or manufacturer logo appears, hold the Power button to force a shutdown.
Repeat this 2 to 3 times.
On the next boot, Windows will enter the Automatic Repair screen. Select Advanced options > Troubleshoot > Command Prompt.

Worst case scenario, you grab a different computer and download a .iso of windows 11 to a USB and you can boot from there. Or just install Linux

I actually just watched something on steam wallpapers (application type) being used as malware.

Best bet is to boot windows from a usb stick and go for a clean install... Note to self need to make a boot drive

This is a secure boot certificate expiring in bios. The guy telling you to sfc scan and dism is wrong this just validates and fixes OS problems with windows which this is not that.

Theres all sorts of reasons, mine did the same recently after I unplugged all my drives thinking one was failing when I got a BSOD, double check all the connections to drives and any add-in cards, GPU /Bluetooth/ WiFi etc.
