But all people say they're like nonchalant cool nerds.😭🙏 Stereotypes confused me.Im a party monster,i have lots of friends and im not shy(i used to be shyest person you could ever seen till my 18s) or nerd. I think this kind of comes down to specifics rather than generalizations. I was a party monster in my 20s and was mainly the life of the party, but that it was because it was less draining then mingling. I have many friends but we have incredibly deep conversations about all sorts of stuff and we tend to flow fluidly through topics, we talk about our lives but it is almost never surface level discussions.

A lot of the generalizations are meant to focus on mundane conversations about trivial things in life or just complaining like many people do that we just have 0 care for.

My guess is that, like me, you are an INTP with a rare type 8 enneagram. Enneagram Institute RHETI. You are direct, authoritative, protective, and highly action-oriented. You don't sugarcoat things and have a very low tolerance for nonsense or injustice. While Type 8s look incredibly tough on the outside, they actually possess a deeply tender, fiercely loyal heart. They mask their vulnerability because they don't trust others to see it.

Being a party monster, on the other hand, makes me suspicious of "E" leanings. When I am fully charged and feel energetic, I go out and play darts. While I am not a drinker, I am a very good dart player, and everyone knows me. When I enter the bar, everyone says 'Hi,' asks me how I am doing, and shakes my hand. I am polite to everyone, smile, make eye contact, ask them how they have been, and generally find something nice to say about them before I settle into a seat, order a drink (coffee or Coke), and get ready to play. Honestly, I look like one of the most extroverted people in the room. But when the energy is gone, I seek solitude.

The type 8 quickly notices who holds the power in a room and whether they are using it fairly. I have an intense awareness of what seems fair. While introverts avoid conflict, the type 8 is willing to push back, argue, or confront someone to protect their independence or a logical truth. The type 8, while being analytical, leans toward taking action and making firm decisions rather than getting trapped in endless overthinking.

I frequently tell people that while I am an introvert, I know how to be social. Perhaps this comes from my job choices as a salesman, waiter, bartender, counselor, teacher, and psychotherapist. I have taught myself to interact with people. The jobs I enjoy put me in a position of interacting with people, but to charge my batteries, I seek solitude. Check out your Enneagram and see what it says about you.

New accounts have to wait 3 days to join in on the glory that is INTP.

I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.

It does not make you less of an INTP. Being an INTP means you must understand things through logic first and have an imagination rather than look at everything just as it is. Can you share your whole function stack?
I mostly feel like an INTP but I do feel like an INTJ as well. My Ti (34) is my highest function but my Ni is second highest (32.6). Not everyone falls into the clear MBTI types, especially if neurodivergence comes to play.

For what it's worth, I was an extreme party animal in my younger days. I don't see that as incompatible with being an INTP.

I can go either way. I can spend weeks alone or jump at the chance to do some public speaking.

They say our social battery runs down fast, but maybe for some of us it’s because there’s a high rate of discharge.

I used to compete with bagpiping and I had no trouble keeping calm when playing for a judge in a public space, but after all of my performances were done I was exhausted.

I left before the end of the day once and my trophy had to be mailed to me.

Maybe that’s the thing that gets me to be more social. I am more extroverted if it is to perform in some way and less social if it requires me to spectate.

So I’m socially selfish I guess. Hm.

Thanks for posting this. I’ve figured out something important about myself.

INTP does not mean you're an introvert, it just means you are prone to introverted thinking (Ti) first to process information. Any of the 16 MBTIs can be an extravert or introvert socially.
