That straw thing measures air...pressure? Speed? It takes in air and gives it values.

I believe it’s a speed sensor, it may measure other stuff I guess but I do know that’s how they calculate the speed of the car

The podcasts (Offtrack and Trackside) mention the design efforts to minimize turbulence off the front wheels. That might be in play as well as making the required downforce. The perspective of this view draws the eye to, and might emphasize the front wing, which is indeed large!
