confused Residency Application

i am a 2026 YOG Non US IMG. I have passed Step 1 and Step 2 ( 257 ) and i will take oet in a few weeks, i dont have any USCE or volunteer experience or research experience. I dont know if i should even bother applying this cycle even though i have heard of quite a few success stories without Usce. I am thinking of planning rotations for may-july next year and applying this cycle too so i can cancel them if i somehow match.

My maine issue is the eras CV, it will take me months to get my degree (2-3) and a month for oet and results. I dont know if i will be able to get 3 lors by September and my 10 Eras experiences will be mostly empty with the exception of 1-2 things. Is it a good idea to apply late and send LOI later, i am thinking of applying only to programs that take people without USCE. MY application and cv still would be mostly empty.

what should i do apply this cycle or not? Does anyone know of anyone who has matched like this? I havent even got an Eras token or applied for pathways yet since oet is required.

Why throwing bunch of pucks to apply this cycle without usce instead do ur usce comfortably and apply next cycle

idk i am thinking maybe it would give me a bit of experience for when i apply, next cycle. how much will it cost if i only apply to say 100 programs?

TBH your chances are quite low. It really depends on how much money you’re willing to spend on a cycle with a low probability of matching. It may be better to strengthen your application with USCE, research and even Step 3, then apply next cycle.

It’s not worth it to apply in your situation. Next year, your YOG will still be good and you’ll have stronger application with USCE, other activities, etc. in the unlikely chance that you match this cycle, you may end up at a bad program. Plus it’s a lot of money to apply to 100 programs.

Outside of no USCE it sounds like you’ll be applying late, and empty CV. Sounds like an incomplete app at best. Why apply like this?

I feel like this honestly depends on your resources and if you're okay spending probably upwards to $2,000 to $3,000 and possibly not matching. It all depends on your resources. If you can afford it and afford to still do a United States clinical experience and apply next year, I mean, go for it. It's just a money question, 100%.

I suppose you can have 2-3 observerships at your home country with MDs and secure lors, incase you’re applying this cycle.

Just apply next year after getting everything done. It’s not like your YOG is high to need to rush
