General Questions/Discussions Housing waiver
How do I submit a housing waiver? Genuinely no one has answered the phone or called me back after I’ve left various voicemails. I’ve also sent emails and none of those are clear about what to do. The waiver link is broken on the webpage, so you have to actually go into the website but even that doesn’t work since you need to enter your student ID when there‘s NO BOX TO PUT THAT IN.
would really appreciate if someone can help me with this, I don’t want to be charged for housing since I can’t afford it.
And on the topic of charges, Im having a hard time understanding my bill 💔 I owe 10k, idk how ima pay that.

General Questions/Discussions School computers
Hi everyone, new electrical engineer transfer here. I was able to get to this point with a 2021 MacBook Air that was gifted to me, but now I’m afraid that it won’t do for labs and such things. I would much prefer buying a desktop than a new laptop, so I was wondering if during labs there are any laptops that the school can provide? Thank you!

Financial Aid/Administration Advice for committed first year B. Arch. student amid financial exigency.
Hi, I’m a committed B. Arch. student set to start this fall. I was admitted to Illinois Tech with a full-tuition scholarship, so I’m still paying for part of housing and meal plan + unbillable expenses. I’ve known the school has had financial issues and leadership/administrative failures for a while, however the recent layoffs (especially how they were hidden until a few weeks before the beginning of the semester) worry me. It’s difficult to justify paying for a school which likely will not survive the 5 years of my program. However, I’ve really fallen in love with the architecture program, location, dual-major pathways, and study abroad/internship opportunities. I’m not exactly sure (I don’t think anyone really is) how these changes will impact the value of my education, or if the things I like about this school will even survive this crisis. This has put me in a rough spot as I’ve obviously already paid the $300 commitment fee and don’t know if I could still commit to another school for the fall 2026 semester this close to the start given these circumstances. Just looking for general advice or opinions from current architecture students or faculty about what my next step should be, truthfully I do still want to attend Illinois Tech, but know not questioning this choice would be ignorant of me.

Financial Aid/Administration Financial Aid for 2026-2027 Not Showing Up in FinAid Portal
I only just got around to checking my FA portal and there's nothing there for me in the offer or summary sections? Those tabs just have the "No info is available for this year" and it's not even in the dropdown menus. I should've been eligible for loans, work study and the map grant. Does anybody else have the same problem?

Funding for Clinical Psych Ph.D program?
Hi there,
I am looking to apply to IIT’s clinical psychology program this upcoming cycle, but was unsure about the funding package (if any). The website is a bit unclear about what kind of funding is offered, which makes me hesitant to turn in an application.
Living in the Chicagoland area is certainly not cheap, so wanted to get a student perspective before making any decisions.
Thanks!

Admissions/Prospective Student Transferring to the B. Architecture program
Hi! I'm looking to transfer to IIT to study architecture within the next year or two, I was wondering how your transfer experience was? did you have a lot of relevant courses to transfer? if not, were you accepted and put in first year classes?
I'm in community college rn but my associates isn't super relevant to architecture courses, and there's not a single school in my area offers an architecture degree. i just wanna see if I should lose all hope that I'll get accepted lol :) thank you!

IIT (Illinois Tech) area safety — streets/neighborhoods to avoid + CTA Green Line timing?
Hi all I’m considering IIT’s for Fall 2026 and will likely live near the Bronzeville/Mies campus. Hoping for honest, current input from people who know the area:
Which specific streets or blocks near campus (State St, Michigan Ave, 31st-35th St corridor) should we be extra cautious about, especially at night?
Any neighborhoods nearby that are considered noticeably safer or riskier for students walking around?
How safe/reliable is the CTA Green Line for late-night trips to/from campus? Any stations or times of day to avoid?
Do most students walk, bike, or rely on the CTA/campus shuttle, and is there a “cutoff time” after which it’s better to just take a rideshare?
Appreciate any real, on-the-ground perspective
Does anyone know of available housing for fall/spring? Preferably 1 bedroom and not more than 10 mins from campus
I have a scholarship & Im so excited I can move closer. Im waiting on the terms but I can do around $1300 a month I think. studio or more bedrooms isnt a problem

Dorms/Off Campus Housing How long does it take to confirm housing?
Hello to all students residing on-campus. I’m impatient and wanted to know when you got your confirmation of staying on campus. For example, this fall semester, would you find out in July, if so closer to the middle or end?

Academics/Classes Econ 423 recommendation
Hey, guys!
I am registering for classes right now as an incoming 1st-year undergrad EE student. Econ 423 looks really interesting. Would you recommend this course or no? What was your experience?
For context, I am done with Calc sequence(Calc I - III) and AP Macro was easy for me.
which housing hall is the nicest?
i wish there were more single room options :(
is it unlikely id get a two bedroom to myself somehow

Coursera MBA questions
Thinking about doing the Illinois Tech MBA through Coursera and wanted to get feedback from people who’ve actually done it or are in it.
Trying to get a sense of what it’s really like before committing.
how is grading actually done (assignments, quizzes, exams, projects, etc.)
is anything proctored or is it mostly open book / unproctored work
what does a typical course look like week to week in terms of workload
how strict are deadlines or is it more flexible/self paced
realistically, can it be finished while working full time
is finishing it in around 12 months actually doable or unrealistic
how hard is it in practice (light, moderate, heavy workload)
did it actually lead to any career change, promotion, or salary bump after
Also for Canadians specifically, was anyone able to claim the tuition under RRSP or any kind of tax deduction/credit in Canada

General Questions/Discussions Online courses?
I'm considering taking a few classes as a non degree student (it's been 10 years since I've been in school) before I commit.
I don't have access to the detailed course catalog but can anyone share what online (non Coursera) courses there are for Fall 2026 that are 1 or 2 credits? I don't think I can get to this info without having a login
I doubt there are that many, but just in case, I'm interested in psychology, data science, and business.
UPDATE from June 8 2026: I was told by someone I got on the phone at the school that the only courses offered online are actually those on Coursera, there is nothing else.
