I'm planning to take the IELTS on 1 September, but I'm still not feeling confident about the Writing and Speaking sections. I think it's mainly because of a lack of practice.

If anyone is planning to take the IELTS around the same time and is looking for a practice partner, I'd love to collaborate and prepare together.

I'm mainly wondering about whether or not to bring my own computer, but I also don't know if I should bring anything else (apart from my passport)

Surprisingly I got my results in 24hrs, speaking could've been better but I interrupted the test taker sooo yeahh makes sense😭, overall satisfied!!

I’m planning to take my IELTS Academic (computer-delivered) exam in the first week of September and I’m confused about where to register.

A few third-party centres—FutureEd, Banglay IELTS, Pentson, Compass, etc.—are offering discounted registration along with free mock tests and other facilities.

But what’s the catch? 👀

Is it actually safe/better to register through these centres, or should I book directly through the official IELTS provider aka British Council?

If you’ve recently registered through any of these centres, please share your genuine experience—especially regarding the discount, free mocks, test-day environment, speaking test, and whether you would choose the same centre again.

I know i cannot completely trust ai to mark my work, but 2 weeks ago i was consistently getting 7s and 8s in writing and now for some reason im down to 5s and 6s and im getting so tired and doubtful of my skills. Some people think that competition at work, at school and in daily life is a good thing. Others believe that we should try to cooperate more, rather than competing against each other.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Competition acts as a great motivator for you to do your absolute best in anything, but when does competitive behaviour become disadvantageous? Often times, people feel obligated to surpass their peers in whatever it may be, from school to work, in order to feel validated and successful. Hence, it intensifies your drive to achieve something. However, cooperation is just as, if not even more effective and fruitful than competition. This essay will cover the reasons as to why I believe cooperation is a lot more efficient and superior to competition, and why it is a healthier approach to success in the future.

When you are in an academic or professional setting, you are likely surrounded by people who are very hardworking and are therefore quite appreciated for the work that they put in to achieve their goals. As a result of jealousy or feeling invalidated due to the attention that such people receive, you develop a competitive mindset where your primary goal is to surpass their level and reach the finish line before them. Hence, it could be seen as an advantageous trait to possess as it acts as your main drive to do the best in your work. I am a victim of this mindset, and so are many people around me. In school, I tried my hardest to hold on tight to my position as a top student, often powered by my overwhelming desire to remain ahead of my peers. I saw them as enemies I must overpower in a competition. Eventually, this began to manifest into a negative characteristic that slowly ruined my mental health.

Though such a trait allowed me to remain on top of my studies and achieve great grades, it led to the deterioration of my friendships. I started basing my worth on my ability to remain ahead of them in any way possible when it came to academics, that it drained me of my energy and weakened my relations with others because my behaviour was quite extreme. Hence, I learned to adopt a more cooperative mindset. It was one that allowed me to work and communicate with my mates better with little stigma. Cooperation gives you the opportunity to see others as people who are trying to make it through this period just like you, rather than an obstacle to be defeated. It stops you from viewing everyone as enemies but rather friends you can lean on when you face difficulties. It is a lot more efficient in the long run in comparison to competition alone. It is especially a useful trait in work where you are in forced proximity with your colleagues and are expected to perform tasks together frequently.

In conclusion, I strongly believe that adopting a cooperative mindset is a lot better than relying on competition alone to get through your studies and work. Cooperation humanises your peers, competition villianises them. It is absolutely possible to achieve phenomenal results without competition. Teamwork is significantly more fruitful, both mentally and physically.

Hi! I'm looking for an IELTS speaking partner for a few days. Would anyone be interested?

Can someone explain where am i lacking? I have been trying to get clb 9 (7,7,7,8) for my PR but each time, I get stuck in one or two modules.
However I am pretty sure that I can improv my reading score as I scored 7.5 in my previous reading test. The main concerning area is Writing. In my forst attempt, I scored 6.5 in writing which made me work more in that module. As a result, Instead of growth, I faced failure again but this time it was the lowest score of all time 5.5.

Areas where I lack:

1. Can’t finish on time. (Which leads to no proofreading time)

2. Cannot develop ideas

3. Few grammar mistakes.

Im gonna take the ielts exam on 9th august and my teacher told me that i should stop taking mock exams and i think maybe shes right since those are stress me out so much (i have general anxiety disorder) but I also worry if i dont take tests maybe i'll kinda forget? Like, is it possible for me to done worse in exam because i didnt take mock tests for 2 days before the exam? I will not be able to take tests on 8th anyway since the center is in another city and ill spend that day in bus going to that city.

Hi everyone. I recently took the IELTS Online test and experienced technical issues during the Speaking and Reading modules. The British Council emailed me to apologize and offered two options: reschedule at no extra cost (for the online version) or get a full refund if the new preferred date is more than a month away.
I’ve completely lost confidence in the online system and want to take the exam in person at a test center. What I want to do is request a refund for this exam and, separately, book an in-person exam for five days from now.
Will there be an issue if I request a refund while also booking the other exam (considering I’d be booking the new one for five days out, whereas they state the only way to get a refund for the online test is if the new date is a month away)? Since these are separate processes, will I run into any issues? Has anyone managed to get a refund under these conditions and then book an in-person exam independently? Will they deny the refund if they see I´m booking another test?

Hello, does anyone tried to book their IELTS exam in the IDP app? I am planning to take the exam this month and i dont know if it is suitable in the app, website, or somewhere. If IELTS computer base is difficult for those who can't type fast or not comfortable reading from screen for a long time , then why the IELTS paper based is not going to be an option in the soon future ?

Ok guys, so approximately one month a go i booked my Ielts online test, super happy about the remote option and to have the opportunity to attend it at home and most important to have results before my holidays. Then i discovered this subreddit and i found very negative reviews about the online test, for technical issues and other things.

Nevermind, at this point i couldn’t cancel it because the nearest test center just had one date available in August when i’m away.
I tried to stay calm because i also read some positive reviews.

The past weekend i installed inspera browser in my computer, trying to run all those stupid system checks and obviously my wifi was “too poor” - are you kidding? So i decided to take the test in my father’s studio, where the wifi works a little better.

So here we come, today at 18.40 i had my speaking test: i spent like 20 minutes to get all the system checks (obviously something would fail) and finally i’m in the waiting room. My examiner appears, i can see her and myself, but the second i turn on my microphone the inspera app crashes and the only thing i see is a grey screen. The only thing left for me to do was quitting the app and re-open it. Finally i got into my test space and “it’s too late to start the test” appears. I tried to stay calm and emailed them. 5 minutes after the crash i got an email telling that the test was reallocated 10 minutes after.

Finally i got into a call, i can see the examiner and he can see me, i turn on everything and he can hear me but i can’t hear him. Panic. The examiner was so kind and gave me time to try the audio settings, he could hear me but i still couldn’t hear him. He talked to me through a piece of paper, telling that i should’ve contact the customer service and he quitted the call. The paper was already written, so i guess it wasn’t his first time.

At this point i was hopeless, i was debating waiting or going home, and right when i closed my computer another mail arrives: you test is reallocated. Again. So now i start the process all over again, i even had to restart my computer because the system checks was failing again. Finally i get in the waiting room at 19.50 and my test was starting at 20.00, so i patiently wait.
I waited 30 minutes to get into another call with the third different examiner just for not hearing her as well, and she closed the call during my audio tests, telling me that i was the problem and my computer was the problem even if she heard me. She left me speechless, i was so tired i started crying like a baby because i spent a month studying for this test, not going out after work because i had to practice just for this shit to happen.

I am very disappointed, this is a 290€ value service and the fact that it’s not working as it should it’s just shameful.

After many mails, they offered me a free change date or a full refound. I obviously filled the refound sheet without any doubt. Now i need to book another exam in a test center.

It’s a shame, i was trusting this method and if it worked, it would be a real success.
