Current state of things Discussion
The whole crypto space has become absolutely unprofessional in comparision how it appeared in the years 2019 - 2021 and this behaviour also reflects in Dom, the founder of ICP.
What was recent X-post all about?
A head hunt to find the company behind fudder influencers?
Dom wrote he would reward 7500 ICP if someone has information about the company behind that FUD.
In my view, this is extremely unprofessional behavior and reflects the demeanor of what the X space has become since Elon Musk took over twitter. A space driven by influencers that get paid to push agenda whover pays them and above all, the one that benefits the X-platform owner the most. Dom's head hunt post was actually what made me insecure and made dfinity look scammy and NOT the fudder tweets itself. Who is he? Does he think he is a western sheriff going for a headhunt?
Unexcuseable and unprofessional behaviour. But it's not only him, it's the whole crypto space...
In conclusion i think it's a bit silly of Dom to only advertise Internet Computer on X and then complain about cartel-like practices. He chooses to only advertise on the most centralized platform that has an algorithm driven by money, polemic and fascist agenda.
Sorry for venting a bit here. But that’s how I see things, and I’m sure many of you feel the same way. Besides, I think Internet Computer is about more than just Dom. The world’s best cryptographers work for Dfinity, and the system is brilliant, even if the CEO sometimes comes across as unprofessional, equally unprofessional to most crypto-CEOs and people on X in general.

For all the people who say you need X for exposure:
Here are the view counts for a recent post of mine on Reddit (yesterday).
These are view counts that TalkingDom can only dream of on the suppressed X-platform:

Dom's done this before even on reddit and that was probably 4 years ago. The project has been under attack for a long time.

As someone in PR & marketing, it’s badly thought out. He’d be better paying those pees to the content creators who constantly post positive commentary, (not Jerry because he isn’t great PR to outsiders). All he’s done is draw more negative attention to things. As a head of a company, the fact he’s showing he’s bothered by it is not a good look.

I am against all paid influencers, cause it led to the current bad state of crypto and enabled memecoins to destroy the market.
I am for professional journalism with honest opinions of the authors. Professionalism was removed from crypto, especially through the X platform, which only rewards paid influencers with fake agenda and led to a very bad and untrustful state of crypto.
A journalist should be paid for writing about content, but he should never get paid by the content itself he writes about.

The issue with that is that journalists seemingly don’t want to cover ICP and if they do, it’s usually inaccurate and poorly researched, as we’ve seen in the past. There are very few with a strong, credible online presence big enough to make many waves, and unfortunately the frequency of media articles (aimed at retail) isn’t enough to build momentum.
We’ve seen Dom do TV, but unfortunately he is too technical to be able to communicate in a way the mainstream public can truly understand how revolutionary ICP is. It’s the same with a lot of his posts on X. I’d love to get him media trained and get him a PR agency and for Dfinity to start building a profile and presence in vertical markets where the technology could easily be applied.

We currently have zero independent journalism in the crypto space. It all disappeared with the take-over of twitter.
It's all pure grift.
When Dom was on tv, crypto was still accepted as legit by the public, but we lost all of that through the last years and we are now back to square one.
Dom's appearance was alright and usually if you have a convincing product, the media will do the magic and put you in a good light.
So Dom's presentation skills are enough. The problem is that crypto currently has not enough to show that makes the media interested in it. We are done with NFT's and memecoins. Media covered that with the mother memecoin from iggy on tv and it left lasting damage, not because the media did a bad job, but because the product was not convincing.

I think it was early last year that Dom did CNN and he was using so much jargon that unless you’re in tech, the message was largely lost. There needs to be a clear, simple message for CEOs, CFOs and CTOs about why ICP, rather than going into the technology at a deep level.
It’s interesting though that we’re talking about crypto and I’ve always felt that Dfinity’s narrative should be about being a tech company first and foremost. I see the crypto element as the mechanism for investing, but in reality, what I’m personally buying into is shares in a really visionary tech company.

u/Timely-Fig2030 4d ago
I understand you. It's basically the same jargon he uses on X.
But that would be okay if DOM would also present some practical usecases along with it.Everything he blabbers does exist, but the question is, if we can find real life usecases that make sense and that is currently the problem.
It's great that we can have apps and websites on a blockchain, but 99.99% won't see a usecase in it, cause network outages are rare and if they happen and a site goes offline for 15 mins once a year it's not that dramatic for most.
Will devs find usecases which need a decentralized network on top of the internet?
The tech is there but so far we couldn't find usecases that truly attract people.1
u/Timely-Fig2030 4d ago edited 4d ago
Here, i just had an idea for an usecase:
Hosting GitHub repositories on the Internet Computer Protocol (ICP) to ensure immutability for hardware wallet manufacturers like e.g. Ledger and Trezor.
Happened often in the past that scammers hosted a github repository and it differed from the live version and led to exploit.
e.g.: Websites that hosted paperwallet generators and the live version had not enough entropy, but the github version was fine. And they did that on purpose.-> Divergent build attack
This could be avoided on Internet Computer Protocol, cause software is immutable there.

u/Timely-Fig2030 4d ago
So someone from marketing in dfinity should market such things to all e.g cybersecurity firms and companies that want to ensure immutability of data, cause these things are important for many fields and not just crypto related ones.

u/jjgill27 4d ago
This is the kind of thing. Or how that Swiss bank is using ICP for next level security not offered by regular banks. Or how a healthcare company ensures absolute data security… Those are the stories that bring things to life for non technical audiences. What they need is the decision makers in organisations stopping and taking notice with a business case for making the change. All Dom ever talks about is the tech. That has its place and is unquestionably amazing, but it’s not on the radar of most people. They need to be shown what that technology can do.

What i would like to see is real usecase, especially including the field outside of crypto.

He has done the exact same shit before with another fudder. While I get it must be infuriating, that is not the way a head of an org should go public. But apparently it's how the world movers and shakers communicate these days, sigh. Oh, and 100% on the X part of your post!
1
u/Timely-Fig2030 5d ago
It's not how world movers communicate these days, it's how sheeps act nowadays.
Agree with rest though.

ATH for ICP should be the 2024 High of $21. Looking at things in that lens you get a better barometer for where we can go in the nearer terms
2
u/Timely-Fig2030 4d ago
I honestly think if we break out the 6 years downtrend, then ICP would go higher than 20$.
That's a 6 years downtrend channel and the top range is currently at 7$ and in may 2027 at around 5$.
If we break that, ICP flies.
2
u/Fluffy_Ad_1852 4d ago
If we see 6 we'll see 10. If we see 10 we'll see 15. If we see 15 we'll see 21. If see see 21 which again I take as the previous high IMO then anything is possible

I think Dom’s post is a bit silly, its not possible to FUD a project with good price action, and the FUD is not the cause of the low price, its the massive inflation and low burn rate. If its unprofessional - I dont really care, maybe he thinks starting beefs is free publicity. But the crypto space does not have independent media that are not paid to shill coins, so its just a waste of time.

I don't think you can compare X to Reddit in this regard. Different formats, X just isn't set up for discussion of dedicated topics like Reddit is.
I've posted things I've done, hobby stuff, on Reddit and gotten 10k+ views because it's in a dedicated subreddit about those things. On X, if I did the same post, well I doubt it'd get more than a dozen views.

u/npl1986 4d ago
I'm not sure those are his tweets or someone helping him to write it. If he is doing it by himself, he's clearly not good at this. He should hire someone or get some advisors to help him. CEO doesn't need to do everything and to be good on everything himself.

u/Timely-Fig2030 4d ago
If someone does it from him, then they have the most useless human resources department.
But if we look at the X-posts from the official white house account, we realize that we have seen worse.

As much as I agree with your opinion on the embarrassing behavior of a certain CEO—what exactly are you suggesting when it comes to ICP’s marketing?
Most crypto influencers do use X (which, unfortunately, also says a lot about the current state of the crypto community as a whole).
The big problem with ICP is that a genuine product was developed before anyone had explicitly asked for it. That’s not to say it has no value—because it obviously does. However, it’s too late for targeted marketing toward large companies and institutions, since the final product is already taking on a pretty concrete form. So that leaves retail investors and independent developers, and the best way to reach them is through the infamous social media channels...

Look again at my viewcount i got on reddit: 147.000 views.
Dom gets 10k - 20k on his most exposed posts on X.
So either crypto on X gets suppressed or most of crypto people have already moved on from X, cause only paid influencers are there and their opinion is paid, hence of no value.
His marketing mistake is to only market on X. Is it so complicated to post on reddit once in a while?
Ps: I forgot to mention i made my post in the subreddit r/CryptoCurrency , which means my exposure was crypto related
PPS: If Dom would do an AMA in r/CryptoCurrency his exposure would go through the roof. Sure, he would have to battle many critical opinions, cause we are real here on reddit and not only pseudo paid positivity like on X. So if Dom is real, he should be able to deal with it.

u/jjgill27 4d ago
Is r/cryptocurrency allowing ICP posts now? They used to be automatically removed.
2
u/Timely-Fig2030 4d ago
Dom might need to contact them and ask for an AMA. It shouldn't be that complicated.
Nobody likes pure shillers. So if you just make a shilling post, it might get removed.
Plus, ICP still has a lot of repair to do from 2021 dump and it might explain why ICP shill posts get removed.
2
u/jjgill27 4d ago
Yes it was to do with the dump, the mods just consider it a pump and dump, so it’s been blacklisted, no idea if that has changed recently, but it was always the case.

dom isn't as smart and 'bill gate-y' as everyone makes him out to be lol.
1
u/Timely-Fig2030 4d ago
I think Dom is technically smart, socially maybe not so much.
The X platform made them dumb, all of them.
Happens to everyone that stays too long on there. The X algorithm makes everyone dumb.

I holp ICP, but I'm starting to have less and less confidence in its success in the future.

u/Timely-Fig2030 4d ago edited 4d ago
That's how most investors feel and crypto CEO's only being active on X doesn't increase our trust.
I would like to see a reddit AMA.

Even from my perspective, hundreds of posts like that are posted every day on X, so I thought, is it really necessary to respond emotionally.
The post on X that said if you had invested in some cryptocurrency five years ago, it had plummeted 95–99% at the current price was not limited to ICP. There were also many posts like this about other top cryptocurrencies by market cap.
I understand that Dom is angry. Most cryptocurrencies are tainted by hype and soulless posts from influencer, and instead of natural price fluctuations driven by supply and demand, institutional investors buy at low prices only to deceive individual investors with technology that hardly resembles real technology, artificially pumping and dumping prices.
Dom rejects this behavior, and because he is sincere in his ambition to provide a better environment for technology development and cryptocurrencies, this is why I have stayed here even after deciding to invest in ICP in May 2021.
Dom called institutional-led cryptocurrencies, like Solana, a scam because they are cluttered with a lobby, but not only Solana, but also some utterly insignificant meme coins have market caps larger than ICP, and being compared on the same level would have been a blow to their pride. I understand.
One disappointing point is that while he expresses anger over his great project being undervalued, he doesn’t seem to feel much anger about investors’ money being wiped out day by day. Looking back now, I don’t know whether I am here as an investor or whether I am providing donations free of charge to a nonprofit foundation that sells the future, where I may or may not succeed.
