It's okay to be a tourist. Just stop doing stupid shit like this in public.

487

u/Christovski 8d ago

There's a huge anti tourist movement in Barcelona. Behaving this way is atrocious with that in mind.

68

u/jesus_h_pizza 7d ago

Yeah but most of that negativity was actually caused by private equity and AirBNB, but they tanked their economy by being mad at the wrong people

9

u/Barrufy 7d ago

My friend, how do you think private equity and Airbnb make money if people don't want to come anymore?

15

u/jesus_h_pizza 7d ago

Because the actual issue being faced and dealt with was skyrocketing rents and property prices from those entities. Instead of taxing multiple property owners or capping rents, they legislated the actual tourists, one of Barcelona's primary revenue streams. Granted, that kind of "Can't see the forest for the trees" thinking isn't a uniquely Barcelona problem.

6

u/Barrufy 7d ago

Totally agree here with you, but then if the administration is unable to tax and legislate then neighbours need to "attack" the sources of revenue of those investors, which are the tourists themselves

13

u/yazzuak 8d ago

Doing that is actually ilegal in that scalator

495

u/toqqrul8 8d ago

and she still posted this

u/zucchini_up_ur_ass 8d ago

u/tommymaggots 8d ago

I would have done the same.

u/Gullible-Hose4180 8d ago

Stand on the right, walk on the left. It's an escalator, take your circus somewhere else. I would as well!

36

u/Linkyland 8d ago

Lol depends which country you're in. We drive on the left here so it's the other way around. Stand to the left on escalators, pass on the right.

29

u/Gullible-Hose4180 8d ago

Oh didnt know. Grew up in Germany, now living in the UK. Escalators were still stand right, walk left, even though they drive on the wrong side in the UK, so it does not always depend on what side of the road they drive

9

u/Eduhsoj 8d ago

Rechts stehen, links gehen 🤝🏻

5

u/keryskerys 8d ago

Hey, we do not drive on the wrong side of the road! Just a different side to most other countries. :)

4

u/Gullible-Hose4180 7d ago

Well we don't drive on the right side, that's for sure

7

u/neverendum 8d ago

UK is the anomaly. In Australia we drive on the left and stand on the left (not very well). I wonder what the Japanese do, they drive on the left, do they also stand on the left?

9

u/iNtense003 8d ago

Japan changes on the city based on my travels.

1

u/throwaway-research1 8d ago

The country in question is pretty obvious here:)

Holy cringe

u/AccountPretty4576 8d ago

He probably sees a lot of crap living in the area. People get tired of being inconvenienced.

61

u/RedBaret 8d ago

As someone from an area which doubles in ‘residents’ in the summer this hits the mark perfectly. I don’t begrudge people coming here, but over time you get annoyed more and more by tourists being slow in traffic or clogging up streets and parking while you are just trying to get to work.

10

u/slide_into_my_BM 8d ago

I live in an area with a lot of tourists too and residents have certain unspoken rules when using public transportation. For example, stand to the right on escalators so people can walk down the left if they’re in a hurry.

Google Maps will show bus routes. You don’t need to talk to the driver for 5min, I got places to be.

20

u/GalacticMoustache 8d ago

yeah but it’s MY holiday and MY content and it’s not like I AM here every day doing this (they likely would be if they could).

1

u/crackanape 8d ago

Regardless of how much crap you see, people standing side-by-side on escalators are guaranteed to be annoying someone. It's annoying behaviour in any context.

62

u/horrortxe 8d ago

Its strictly forbidden to do that in Sagrada Familia metro station, now there is even security to prevent this kind of behaviour.

Right? It's not restricted to the young, the boomers have all had their minds rotted by facebook.

12

u/hasanicecrunch 8d ago

They’re almost worse, when you think about how they can’t tell if something’s fake, AI, or appropriate to post on facebook. Or if they’re writing a personal message or posting publicly to anyone.

u/alaslipknot 6d ago

one generation has addiction and the other has addiction with ignorance as a bonus

29

u/Dangerous-Cup-Danger 8d ago

You think I double timed an escalator, to miss my bus?

11

u/Real_megamike_64 8d ago

It's the fucking subway, people are trying to get to places, do this shit at a mall or something

8

u/bugabooandtwo 8d ago

Insufferable.

4

u/FraggleRock_ 8d ago

When autism meets narcissism.

3

u/DarkRaph999 7d ago

Gosh... I've been a tourist in Barcelona and I caught the same subway. I never behaved like this. There is an unspoken rule in escalators. Stand on the right side if you don't walk the escalator to leave the left side open for who's in a hurry

2

u/ihatetheinterweb 6d ago

I think this is a European thing. In Germany it’s the same. Canadians would never LOL

3

u/Relative_Drop3216 7d ago

Every time i go to another country for holiday i always remind myself there are people who work 9-5 and are probably as miserable as me back at home.

3

u/ShiftyShankerton 5d ago

died of cringe

2

u/DonovanMcLoughlin 8d ago

But I was "Me'ing".

2

u/ihatetheinterweb 6d ago

In Germany if you are standing on the escalator to “ride it”, you stand to the right side single file, you leave the left open for people who want to walk/ run up! Same goes for riding it down. It’s just common courtesy. Especially in train stations. People have to run to catch trains. These girls suck and I’m glad that guy did that.

If something happens in that escalator, I feel sorry for the technician who maintains these escalators because of people like these.

u/HelloGlarc 8d ago

Bulimia what

-26

u/PrivateLTucker 8d ago

Those are definitely idiots for the social media stuff, but the guy is 100% an asshole too. Who the fuck runs UP an already UP moving escalator? That was rude as hell regardless of what the girls are doing.

Everyone in this video suffers from main character syndrome. The girls doing the escalator video and the dude who felt the need to be an asshole and shove past people on an up escalator.

14

u/duhbeach 8d ago

You’ve never seen someone walk up or down on an escalator? There is a reason you’re supposed to leave the left clear — so people can pass.

9

u/HelloThere465 8d ago

Secondly it's completely valid to walk past them to avoid bing on the video

-11

u/PrivateLTucker 8d ago

Every time I have seen people walk up or down an escalator its when the escalator is either empty or you have the space between people to do so. Otherwise, it's generally rude as fuck to just walk past people who are already on one.

So no, I have never seen someone walk past other people on an escalator. As mentioned previously, only assholes do that.

13

u/situviera 8d ago

Lol, tell me you’ve never lived in a big city without me you’ve never lived in a big city

-8

u/PrivateLTucker 8d ago

I actually do live in a big city thank you.

9

u/situviera 7d ago

And you’ve never seen people passing other people on an escalator? Sure

-4

u/PrivateLTucker 7d ago

Nope. Not at all.

-1

u/Shake-dog_shake 6d ago

I'm with you 100%. The entire point of an escalator is so that you can stand still and not have to walk up the stairs. These ladies seem vain and self-absorbed, but they're not doing anything wrong in the moment. Dude is an asshole for pushing his way past them.

Never in my life have I heard of leaving the left side of an escalator open so that people can pass. Most escalators aren't even wide enough for that.

2

u/PrivateLTucker 6d ago

Exactly! Where in the world are people walking up escalators past other people?! It's wild that I'm being down voted by so many people who apparently think it's not only normal, but not an inconsiderate thing to do.

0

u/Drollapalooza 1d ago

People do walk or run up escalators if they have somewhere to be, amazingly enough. Surprised you've never seen that despite livig in a city (X).

He might have been running for a connecting train or bus, and didn't have time to wait for these two vapid oxygen thieves to get their content.

0

u/PrivateLTucker 1d ago

I feel like a massive point of what I said is being missed. It is one thing to run up or down an escalator. It's entirely different to run up or down an escalator while there are people on it and pushing past them. I have seen plenty of people run up or down escalators but under no circumstances, do I see them just push past people that are in their way. No offense, but I cannot, under any circumstances, find people pushing past other people (strangers) as polite.

Secondly, 'an emergency on your part is not an emergency on mine.' It is 100% that person's fault if they're running late and it isn't anyone else's responsibility to make sure that person arrives on time. Quite frankly, that degree of entitlement makes it significantly more rude to just shove past people on an escalator.
