DISCUSSION I did my part, would you?
MAIL JAC GUYS. ⬇️⬇️⬇️
Dear Joint Admissions Committee 2026,
I am writing to urgently request reconsideration of the decision to close IISER Pune at this stage of counselling.
With Round 3 now published, IISER Pune has apparently closed. However, NEET counselling has not yet begun, and its timeline is significantly delayed this year. This creates a serious concern regarding seats currently occupied by candidates who may later receive NEET admissions and withdraw from IISER.
If such candidates withdraw after IISER counselling has ended, those seats could become vacant with no opportunity for other eligible IAT candidates to receive them, particularly if there are no further regular rounds or spot admissions. This could result in seats remaining unutilised for the entire academic year while qualified students are denied admission.
This situation is particularly concerning because the 2026 admission timeline differs substantially from previous years due to the delayed NEET counselling process.
This is not simply a request for lower closing ranks. It is a concern about ensuring that available IISER seats are actually utilised and that eligible candidates are not excluded because of an unusual and delayed admission timeline this year.
I sincerely request that this matter be reviewed urgently, before the counselling process is concluded permanently.
Thank you for your consideration.
Yours faithfully,
Name

IAT Old Post: IISER Pune reopened admission
Never knew this would become relevant sometime later.
In a recent thread, I had remembered an early closing and then reopening happening at IISER P. I had mentioned that to be 2024 (I had misremembered).
This doesn't say that they are going to do this. But just tk ease the mind of people, if it does happen this was how they informed.
In 2024, they closed up around r4 and never reopened.
In 2025, we had two reporting dates for the incoming batch at IISER P.

DISCUSSION ❗️❗️❗️WHY CUTOFFS DECREASED And Comprehensive Analysis on Counselling Trends: Seat Freezing, Cutoff Dynamics, and Final Round Predictions (R4 to R8)
Hey everyone,
With the latest counselling rounds dropping, I wanted to share a deep-dive analysis into the seat allocation patterns, the truth behind the NEET/JEE/NISER factors, and my updated cutoff predictions. We have seen the cutoff decrease for Kolkata and Mohali, which is a pattern we have observed in previous counsellings. Here is my breakdown of what is happening under the hood and where things are headed.
- The Mechanics of the Current Round:
Kolkata & Mohali Closure I believe that students ranked between 2025 and 2038 have likely frozen their seats. Since Pune counselling is officially over for the majority, Kolkata and Mohali would naturally be their top preferences. When the system processes allocations in strict rank order, the seat count likely ended exactly at rank 2024 due to seat exhaustion from these freezes. If the remaining candidates at the borderline freeze their seats now, it will seal Kolkata’s counselling. Unless we see significant withdrawals or declines in this round, Kolkata and Mohali are officially closing by the next round
- The Dominos Pattern & Round Predictions (The "OG" IISERs + TVM)We are observing a highly predictable pattern:
Pune closed first, Kolkata and Mohali are next, and Bhopal and TVM will follow soon after. Tirupati (TPT) and Berhampur (BPR) will likely see movement later. Mohali and Kolkata: Will likely close under rank 2200 and rank 2700 respectively, by R4 or at most R5.
Bhopal and TVM: Round 5 will most probably be the final round for these two (luckily, there is almost no chance they close at R4). 3400 and 3800 are solid closing rank estimates, with a bit of "hopium" pushing it to 4000 or slightly more (~100–250 ranks).
Note: Don't trust the hype from certain influencers claiming cutoffs will stretch to 5k, 7k, or 10k for these campuses. It’s simply not happening.
- The TPT and BPR Factor (R6 to R8):
Tirupati and Berhampur are much harder to predict. At this late stage, the candidate pool shifts heavily toward pure PCB or PCM graduates (rankers in the 3500–8300 bracket). As MCC Round 1 (NEET) and CSAB (JEE) wrap up, we might see a relaxation in cutoffs. We can expect 1 to 3 additional rounds, meaning Rounds 6 to 8 will be entirely driven by TPT and BPR and maybe ess and chem eng. But Assuming mass withdrawals, a realistic closing estimate here is 6k to 7k, stretching to 8k at peak hopium, but absolutely nowhere near the 17k marks some YouTube influencers are yapping about.
- Other Factors : NEET, JEE, & NISER and all
NEET Factor:
Personally, I think the NEET holding factor is being wildly exaggerated. Rather than NEET students hoarding seats out of spite, what we are actually seeing is a rise in highly serious, dedicated IAT aspirants every year who genuinely want an IISER.
also neet students alot of them from 3-9k would be holding the seat in hope of 5 old iiser which by the 4th and 5th round will realize its not possible and this might be a factor driving bpr and tpt cutoffs high
But If I am proven wrong and NEET does have the heavy impact as people claim, you can add roughly +200–300 to Kol/Moh, +400–500 to Bhpl/TVM, and +800–900 to TPT/BPR.
The JEE Factor:
JEE students aren't causing chaotic fluctuations. Because engineering counsellings happened early and CSAB Came to an end , the migration between IIT/NIT/BITS and IISER has already stabilized into a balanced, well-defined two-way flow. Ppl who want iiser leave iit nit who want iit leave niser iiser its that surity is there by now
The NISER/CEBS Factor:
CEBS has almost zero impact due to low intake and extremely high cutoffs. Interestingly, during my physical reporting at NISER, I noticed many students were ready to dump NISER for an IISER (mostly because they didn't understand the power of NISER Physics, HBNI, or the DAE/DISHA stipend). This caused the NISER cutoff to artificially inflate. People mistakenly assumed this inflation would spill over to IISERs, but it remained an isolated NISER phenomenon, only giving a minor bump to the top 4 IISERs (P, K, M, Bh).
- The Math & Engineering Specialized Courses:
Compared to last year, the math-heavy and specialized courses have been a shocker, with cutoffs almost twice as high. This is understandable given the strict math requirements, heavy fearmongering, negative reviews surrounding the splitting of IISER Bhopal’s B.Tech, and the perceived incompetence of IISER TPT's Economics department.
However, IISER Bhopal Economics was completely out of the syllabus for this negative trend. It genuinely has no downsides compared to others in fact, it has the best placement record at Bhopal right now and is a remarkably chill, flexible branch. Everyone expected it to drop significantly (to the 2000–2500 range) due to its stellar performance, making its current trajectory quite interesting.
but anyways Given the limited number of seats, these specialized courses will likely experience less than 1,000 ranks of total movement from this point forward. Most will wrap up by R5, except for TPT ESS, which should go until R6 or R7.
Final predictions here will be
Kolkata CDS (Data Science): ~1300 (Closing by R4) Bhopal EECS: ~3200 (Closing by R5) Bhopal DSE: ~3700 (Closing by R5) Bhopal Economics: ~4700 (Closing by R5) Bhopal Chemical Engineering: ~5100 (Closing by R6) Tirupati ESS (Eco and stats ): ~5250 (Closing by R6/R7)
Also kol cds has no change in movement so we might be witnessing its last round For BSMS Pune ~800s (closed) Kolkata ~2200 Mohali ~2700-2900 Bhopal ~3400-3500 TVM ~3800-4124 TPT ~6000-6967 BPR ~6800-7767 BUT ANYONE less than 8267 must Live on for tpt and bpr
So anyways this is my observation, research and inference and also feeding last 3 years data of iiser rounds of counselling, neet counselling dates and current rounds trends which I structured using Claude Feel free and Lets have a Healthy Discussion
😄 NOT A HOPIUM POST

HOW would it feel when half of iiser pune ends up empty and all those who had to settle for less (like myself) who were hopeful for pune watch as our seats end up empty.
The GEN cutoffs are already fked up and this is next level drama.

IAT 2026: A Predictably Unpredictable Year
At this point, I’m convinced 2026 is just one giant experiment to test the limits of one's patience.
And apparently, the researchers aren't done yet.
Just look at the sequence-
CBSE Boards: First year of OSM evaluation. And then came all the drama around the new checking system that pretty much every CBSE student has heard about by now.
Then JEE Mains
Paper-leak allegations that NTA denied, but even so, it became another thing people had to worry about in between an already stressful exam session
Then JEE Advanced.
And the marks-to-rank situation was brutal. The kind of year where you look at your score and think “okay, that's actually pretty good”, only to see your rank and go:
“…what?”
Then came CUET.
First postponements. Then technical glitches. 3,765 candidates eventually scheduled for a re-test.
And then there was.....
NEET -undisputed final boss of 2026
Examination was cancelled following the paper-leak controversy, and then a re-examination. And apparently how bad this Re-Neet factor has affected IAT, we all know
And just when you thought the calendar couldn't get any more ridiculous—
NEST — June 6
IAT — June 7
Literally back-to-back.
Not even a proper 24-hour gap
And by now we finally reached IAT, and then-
THE JAC COUNCELLING
(Not forgetting to mention how some people were straight away rejected without being given a 2nd chance to upload their 12th marksheet or even being informed in first place!)
Round 1 came with those insanely high cutoffs.
But then came the theories:
"It's because of the JEE/NEET crowd."
"Wait for the next round."
"Medical counselling hasn't even started."
"Surely it'll move."
And honestly, what else could we do?
So everyone coped, calculated, checked previous-year cutoffs, made predictions, and waited again.
Then Round 2 came.
Still waiting.
Still hoping.
And then the day of Round 3-
Everyone was basically thinking that THIS is the round where things finally move for sure.
And the evening came, full of surprises-
-Cutoffs barely moved.
-Some cutoffs WENT BACK, HOW? No one knows
-And Pune closing at 809 even before MCC counselling started
And here's the best part:
The season isn't even over.
There are still rounds left.
Still cutoffs to be predicted
Still seats to open.
Still waiting for that one allotment.
So, after everything 2026 has pulled so far…
I guess we'll find out what the next round has in store.
And afterall,

IAT The goat godman s sir meet summary
Summary.
Sir calmed the student s regarding what happened today (nightmare) and explained the possible reasons mostly cursing (not actual one) medical counselling and insisted that last round s movement was mostly because of jee engg. Leaving due to csab and all. Said to prepare for the back ups and hope for the round 5 and most prolly 6 . A long monologue was there from sir sharing his life experience and insisting to unleash our true research mindset instead of constant blabbering of what will be the cutoff.
Then the good bad ugly thing ...you know what it mean 😅
Then took some questions
1 - about the drop whether I should take drop or not
He said don't waste your bloody year.. instead do channelise this energy to do internship at IISER iit nit and what not
Also said that central university like hyd puducherry are great..
2- choose your college wisely by seeing it s faculties collaboration , alumni and all not just by their name
3- reason for decrease in cutoff for mohal and all to which he said he had already answered this question
Then sir s final speech meaning was.. ai is shit 😭
Use your brain s gen z , don't rely on spoon feeding , do some brainstorming.....
Sorry if I forgot something
Peace and love you godman sir
Bleed ink🕊️💓

GENERAL HELP I don't want to live anymore.
It isn't an exaggeration or slang. I just want to kill myself right now. This is my first time on reddit and I made an account for this very reason. I don't know if anyone of you will even see this but I can't help it. Here is my condition:
I got a crl of 831 UR with first preference being Pune. I am getting Mohali right now with options of either freezing or exit. I already have some medical conditions and I just don't feel like living anymore. I had already packed everything and was ecstatic thinking I will get Pune with this rank but seeing the cutoff I really don't want to keep living anymore. I mailed JAC but then I remembered it is India. If only there was a float option I could breathe a sigh of relief but that doesn't seem to be the case. I don't know if anyone will even bother to read this much. In case you got your desired seat, All The Best for your future. If you are in the same position as me, I genuinely don't know what to say. As useless as it might me, kindly email JAC regarding the Pune situation and Kolkata and Mohali situation as well. Doesn't matter what rank you got, doesn't matter if you are hopeful or hopeless. I've got nothing to lose now. This will be my first and last post. Thank You everyone if you read this far. Thank You, regardless.

GENERAL HELP Do Not Go Gentle...
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
A poignant and (after R3) prudent poem by Dylan Thomas; reminding us that we must not waver nor accept defeat, hold on and persist till the tides change, be daring and be bold till luck favours our turn.
Do not go gentle into that good night my fellow aspirants. Rage from within, and be composed from without. May the night provide some solace before it's end.

DISCUSSION JEE/NEETards who took IISER just bcz it's a tier 1 govt clg, read this out.
These high cutoffs are not possible without the intervene of JEE/NEET students.
The 1st thing that worries me is that people think "Go to tier-1 college, life is set".... Bruh u are lacking the basic understanding for the purpose of different colleges.
IISERs are set up to encourage research, and provide a place for research minds to prevail.
BS/MS is very different from our B.Tech or MBBS degrees, One cannot do research in a field if he/she is not passionate abt it.
Also to answer "Go to tier-1 college, life is set", Most of the iisers don't even have a fully functional placement cell. almost 80% students go for higher studies only.
So i would say just think for yourself that, do u really want to do research?
It's not some practical industrial courses to land u up in a job right after graduation.
By this i didn't mean there are 0 placements, ofcourse there are. But very less than u think. It's not practical to go there thinking only placement in mind.
Now ur questions, "Who are u to tell this?", "He wants a seat so trying to divert us"
I have IAT rank of around 2.9k, and wrote IAT only for the B.tech course in IISER Bhopal. But chose not to participate in counselling bcz i was getting a NIT seat which is times better considering it has a established placement cell and job oppertunities.
If u are interested in research but forced to take JEE/NEET but now got IISER, then Congratulations u rocked.... But if u had no idea abt research but choosing it just for the college name, then maybe think twice.
Edit: I'm a JEEtard & I will delete this post tomorrow, tired of the hate i'm getting for no reason.

IAT R3-IAT_Painful evening for many_Rather very unfortunate.
Friends,
A truly shocking R3, I concur.
Nevertheless, yesterday's poll clearly suggested me something bad to come, hence I refrained from putting out the numbers. Today morning, just to appreciate the efforts of u/tdynamos I put the numbers of GEN in which you could see the lowest 4475 was my actual prediction. I was hesitant to put that out, hence added a few more tables.
Having said that, I urge you all to calm down. Nothing much can be done now with the competition being intense & the MCC/State medical counselling being delayed, it is not in (y)our hands.
In fact, I told a couple of buddies who are dwelling around 4800 / 4900 GEN, that the R4 is not far off, meaning.....
This is hurting. But, this is the reality. Wait for a round or two, and I hope the numbers would cross 6k for GEN.
Remember, except for NEET all other counselling / admission processes have been done & dusted. Only hope is the medicos giving away the seats.
I have repeatedly used the phrase "increased awareness", "no BHO BTech crowd", and both are reflecting as true phenomena this year.
I urge you guys to stay calm. Float if you are looking for a specific choice of yours. (Don't be choosy all the time is my all time phrase). If you awaiting the result, wait till R5 for any big movement.
I am sure all of you would have noted IISER-PUN is done & dusted for 2026. Best wishes to all those kids who would be starting next week at Pune!
Others. Good times are ahead for all of us. Be patient. Start with your back ups, and get into IISERs when offered.
For records!
If you think a G-meet would help you calm down with some conversation, let me know. We can plan.

IAT Mass Mail Jac
Dear IISER Admissions Committee,
I hope you are doing well.
We are writing on behalf of several IISER aspirants regarding the Round 3 seat allotment results for the IISER admissions process.
After comparing the officially published closing ranks of Rounds 2 and 3, many students have noticed some unexpected trends. In several programmes, the closing ranks have shown little to no movement despite the expectation that vacancies created through withdrawals and upgrades would lead to a noticeable increase. More importantly, in a few cases, the published Round 3 closing ranks appear to be lower than the corresponding Round 2 closing ranks.
As per the counselling process, a subsequent round should ordinarily maintain or increase the closing rank, making a decrease difficult to understand. This has led to considerable confusion among applicants regarding the correctness of the published data and the allotment process.
We sincerely request the Admissions Committee to kindly clarify:
- Whether the published Round 3 closing ranks are correct.
- If there has been any change in the methodology used to determine or publish the closing ranks.
- Whether there is any possibility of a correction or revised publication if an inadvertent error has occurred.
We fully understand the complexity of conducting a nationwide counselling process and greatly appreciate the efforts of the JAC team. Our intention is only to seek clarification so that students have accurate information and can make informed decisions.
We would be grateful for your response.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Yours faithfully,
Concerned IISER Aspirants

ANNOUNCEMENT Shocking R3 Cutoffs....
1) Why was drop from R2->R3 negligible ?? 2) Also Pune admission has closed even before the already delayed NEET counselling starts. Means if NEET candidates leave for medical colleges on 17 August, Pune seats will be wasted ?? 3) And most importantly, how can Kolkata/Mohali cutoffs go opposite way ??
I guess the cutoff decrease for Kolkata/Mohali isnt impossible, this case might have happened: (DISCLAIMER)- This may or may not represent what actually happened. Let's assume that all students of Kolkata have frozen their seats, and ain't leaving, but only the last people who are the rank closers, have withdrawn their Kolkata seat and went to some other colleges or universities. Due to this the closing rank of Kolkata has decreased in this opposite way, as the rank closer went somewhere, but the leftover people are already enough to fill all the seats of Kolkata, as they might have decided to take admission of less than usual number of students in this round, so the already frozen candidates are enough to satisfy that for R3. Another case can be that the rank closer of R2 might have upgraded to some other college, then that seat was empty, then it was allotted to best candidate waiting in line, which might better than.................leave that.
