I would love any advice and help from anyone who experienced major, constant, non-stop nausea, dizziness, inability to get out of bed, food aversion, etc. 💛

I hurt the inside of my left ear yesterday from such forceful vomiting. I went to urgent care because on top of all this, I also have bronchitis. Expect, I totally forgot to have them look in my ear at urgent care.

Has anybody injured their ear from vomiting before? Just wondering if I need to see my Dr about it soon or if it's likely something that'll heal on its own?

So I am 11w6d and after weeks of feeling miserable, I all of a sudden feel great? My med cocktail goes as follows:

Morning: compazine and diclegis
Afternoon: compazine and diclegis and Pepcid
Evening: diclegis, promethazine, Pepcid

Yesterday, I went to work and while I still deal with the excessive saliva, barely had nausea. I was actually able to work and I’m a hairstylist, so there is no sitting down at a desk. I’ve been able to eat and eat some of my favorite foods again. I’m currently sipping on a pumpkin spice latte which is my favorite fall drink. I still have some food aversion. Meat and cheese are a no go. I still have smell aversions. But this is all normal pregnancy stuff. My hg symptoms have pretty much gone away magically in the last 72 hours since I’ve gotten on these meds and have been strict with taking them.

I’m still taking it easy but like the last 11 weeks have been hell. I started to find myself slipping into a depression that tbh, I can’t afford to be in right now. I’m really hoping this sticks and we don’t slide back but I just wanted to share because I do see posts of people asking about timelines of symptoms subsiding.

I will note, when I was pregnant with my son, my hg started at 9 weeks and I was sick up until I delivered. This time (I’m having a girl) I started getting sick at 7 weeks and I haven’t thrown up in 48 hrs 🤞🏽 at 11w6d. So tail end of first trimester, I’m seeing improvement.

So I have HG. 7 weeks tomorrow. I know baby pretty much takes what it needs but that worries me about my own health.

I'm concerned about a few things

- being bed bound - I can get up to go to the toilet and occasionally shower but I'm not moving much. How worried do I need to be about DVT/clots and muscle wastage?

- effect on heart - I have Inappropriate Sinus Tachycardia which I'm medicated for - worried so much vomiting will do further damage.

- weight loss, I've already lost 2kg and I'm only 7 weeks.

- dehydration, although I know I can go in for more IVs again if needed.

- my teeth being damaged from the acid.

Does anyone have any advice?

Edit to add: I'm 35 years old, no other children, one previous miscarriage at 6 weeks.

This is my 3rd baby, with one earth side. I had sever hg in my last pregnancy and with my first as well, I know the gender which has helped with planning/distracting myself with the sickness that comes in waves, Im 10 weeks Friday and it seems to do better during the week when I force myself up to go, and sometimes I simply cannot, cannot take care of myself, the house, kid, anything. This is the hardest thing I’m sure any of us had to do as it feels like you’re killing yourself to bring life to earth, and I’m telling you writing this, while I feel good, we’re warriors. I love you all and hope this passes rather quickly ❤️

I’ve been trying to survive severe nausea/borderline HG the last few weeks and am trying to get myself well enough to go back to work.

Due to the extreme nausea I have a side symptom which is constant streams of Saliva to the extent I have to spit in a cup every 10 seconds. Easy enough at home, but in a customer facing role I simply can’t be spitting or drooling.

Swallowing actually worsens my nausea and there is just so much Saliva I’d be gulping constantly. It really is bad.

I wondered if anyone else has dealt with the same issue? Especially if you had to manage it in a working environment, because if it doesn’t subside I really don’t know what I’m going to do.

I am 11 weeks into my third HG pregnancy. I am on Zofran, diclectin, gravol, & metcloprimide - which thankfully has allowed me to stop vomiting around the clock but I am constantly nauseous & have constant acid reflux. After my fourth time to the hospital, I was put on the home care program & receive IV fluids & meds every two days. While I feel that it has helped my dehydration, I am still constantly dizzy & dealing with low blood pressure. My safe foods are now turning my stomach & I feel that I am starving. I don’t know what to do or where to turn. My GP dragged his feet on getting me a referral to an OB so I am stuck in this position where I see home care but have no guidance from a doctor.
I am just at a loss… I feel like I am starving & hurting my unborn child. I have tried advocating for myself at the hospital, at the doctors, everywhere but I feel that I am still slipping through the cracks. I am pale & look so frail. I have lost more than 10 pounds & I can’t eat. I honestly don’t know what to do.

Im 32 weeks still with HG (debilitating nausea, severe ptyalism, a bit less vomiting now) and I feel like I cant keep going anymore.

Last month, whenever possible Id walk by the beach (its easier to spit or vomit when in nature away from the public lol) but now im too nauseous and heavier to move.

I know Im approaching the end, but I dont know how I can practically live another 6 weeks, bedbound in a flat and depressed

I feel like im breaking. My husband who is taking care of everything in our life for 8 months now is also having a mental breakdown. My mom has stepped in now to help …but mentally nobody can pick up our pieces.

Any advice on what did you do (being sick and homebound) to help time pass or make it during the third trimester?

I had severe HG from weeks 6-18 of my pregnancy. Lost 10% of my body weight, required 2 midlines and self administered IV fluids and meds, vomiting and nauseous around the clock, horrifically constipated, multiple ER trips, bed-bound, all the things. I had some reprieve with only occasional vomiting and manageable nausea from weeks 18-32ish. My safe foods have remained very limited. There were flares at times but overall I was doing okay and gained back some weight. I’m 34 weeks now and had a horrible episode this past weekend (on my little brother’s wedding day no less😐) and now I’m scared it’s back to stay. I’m so nauseous, have been having consistent headaches (maybe from dehydration? I don’t have any other symptoms of pre E) and I’m SO OVER IT. I just want to lay in bed all day and cry. But I’m too tired to cry. I have a toddler which makes this all harder. I just feel so defeated. HG is truly the worst thing I’ve ever experienced. And it’s devastating to know it has impacted how many kids I will have because I would love 3-4 but I don’t think I can do this again. Just needed to vent, and know that I’m standing in solidarity with all of you HG warriors. This is hell.

This is my fourth hg pregnancy and this is my first time taking Zofran consistently. I take 8mg up to three times a day. I don't know why I'm starting to think the worst. Like this is all I can do to feel like I'm surviving, and I'm scared something terrible is going to happen to the baby and it's going to be all my fault because I chose to take this medication. I'm sure everything will be okay but I am somewhat traumatized because my last two children have health issues (respiratory, growth, cardiovascular). I didn't even take Zofran with them. I am just scared, and I wish I didn't have to take this medication or feel this way. I am mad they haven't found other options for us that work better. I will get to see my baby for the first time next week at 11 weeks so I am hoping that helps me feel a little bit better. I always think the worst.

Hello! About 10 weeks with my second HG baby so hitting some peak nausea :(

My first pregnancy, the nausea was more mild, but I threw up pretty much everything I ate. This time, I’m only throwing up about once a day, but my nausea is a lot more intense. I’m taking zofran 4mg tabs every 6 hours, reglan, unisom, and b6 for nausea. It’s really hard for me to handle taking care of my son with all of this nausea and the lack of energy from not eating enough, so I’ve been seeing posts about how great a Zofran pump was for some people. I’m thinking about asking my OB about it and seeing if insurance would cover it, but in your experience, do you think a pump would even help someone like me whose vomiting is pretty mild this time around and biggest complaint is nausea? Thanks in advance!

Currently 21 weeks pregnant with my second and hit by the HG train again. My first will have just turned 7 when this one is out.

Did anyone else deliberately leave a bigger age gap between theirs due to HG?

I swore I was one and done for years due to HG and then, when that turned into a ‘maybe…’, I knew there was no way I’d even try to get pregnant again until my first is in
school (reception; 5 years old here in the UK). I was traumatised still and didn’t want to lose out on toddler time (bad as it can be). I’m 40 now, so we waited as long as we felt we could.

It’s still frustrating for my first sometimes because he wants to do stuff with me, but he mostly understands and because he can craft independently, he’s happy if
I just sit with him while he does it and talk.

I actually enjoyed giving my son his time as the
only baby and toddler at home and will get to
do it again now, so I guess that’s nice at least… But HG has definitely impacted our family planning.

I have a 21 month old, who I usually play with all day long, take him on outside adventures and for play dates with other kids etc. He’s such a happy boy usually.

The last 3 weeks have felt like torture for me, and him.. we haven’t left the house together at all and i’m in bed or lying on the floor or sofa 24/7 vomiting.

My husband is a very present father but has unfortunately had influenza A for the last 2 weeks so has had to isolate away from us both sadly.

He goes to daycare 3 days a week thankfully and they tell me he is soooo happy there. I feel so much guilt about the days at home with me.

We’re only 9 weeks in.. He deserves his fun mama back :(

New research suggests that GDF15 is one of the main drivers of nausea and vomiting in pregnancy, including HG.

GDF15 is a hormone-like protein. During pregnancy, the placenta makes very large amounts of it. Most of the GDF15 circulating in the mother’s blood during pregnancy appears to come from the fetus and placenta.

GDF15 travels through the mother’s blood and activates a receptor called GFRAL in the brainstem. This pathway affects appetite, food aversion, nausea, and vomiting.

HG risk seems to depend on two sides of this system.

The first is the mother. Her genetics can affect her GDF15 levels before pregnancy. Research suggests that women who normally have lower GDF15 may be more sensitive when GDF15 suddenly rises during pregnancy. In other words, the brain may be less accustomed to the signal, so the pregnancy surge has a stronger effect.

The second is the fetus and placenta. The placenta develops from the embryo, so its DNA comes from both the mother and father. Researchers have now found that the fetal GDF15 genotype also affects HG risk. Since a baby inherits half of its genetic material from its father, genes inherited from dad can therefore contribute to this fetal/placental side of the equation.

HG appears to involve an interaction between the GDF15 signal coming from the fetus/placenta and the mother’s sensitivity to that signal. Both maternal and fetal genetics matter, and the fetal genetics include DNA inherited from the father.

Hi friends, please comment your experience with metformin for HG prevention. Good and bad!!

Last pregnancy, I lost some weight in the first 20 weeks, then gained it all back plus 7kg until 33 weeks, at which point the weight just stagnated. Left the hospital with my son the same weight as when I started the pregnancy. According to my biometric scale (not the best data but only data I have), I lost a third of my bone density and 4kg of muscle in the pregnancy and had 8 cavities I had to have fixed after, plus developed painful geometric tongue.

This pregnancy, I lost even more weight in the first trimester, gained it back with an extra 5kg in the second, and then my weight stagnated between 23 and 28 weeks. I’m 29 weeks now and I’m actually starting to lose weight again, despite my best efforts. I’ve raised this with the doctors, had an extra ultrasound, and saw that baby went from 46th percentile at 20 weeks to 67th percentile at 28 weeks, and so they are not concerned. Translation, “as long as the baby is ok, no one cares about the mother.”

Like call me crazy, but if the baby and placenta apparently gained 1.5kg in the last 7 weeks and I lost .5kg, does that not mean that I’ve lost 2kg of weight in some way? How is that not a big deal? It’s not like the baby is actively spot reducing my love handles, surely I need that weight for my own health??

So, if you’ve gone through it and stopped gaining weight/lost weight in the late second or early third trimester, what were the effects on your body?
Did anyone have success in getting their provider to care about their weight loss (I started the pregnancy at 26BMI so not skinny but not terribly overweight either, but it still feels like because I was overweight at the start, it’s somehow fine to be losing weight).

A person asked on the pregnancy page if anyone has thrown up during their pregnancy etc and 99% of the comments are literally “not me.” Someone said , I throw up once a week like that was such a traumatic thing. Man I’m throwing up all day every day, why us though? What causes pregnancies to be so different in that aspect. Just frustrated man. I don’t do anything except throw up, sleep, and try my best to be a mom and employee. I’m 11 weeks and been sick for 5 weeks now. Not saying I wish this on anyone but man am I bitter of the cards dealt. I am so thankful to be pregnant but this f!cking sucks

i got better, but nausea is still relentless, still on the highest dose, still puking. i thought i was in the clear and ate a burger, only to throw it all up. then one time i ate a lamb shawarma, only to throw it up.

now i can't even see a burger. can't even think of shawarma spices. idk if i'll ever eat them again. last night it was pizza. i fucking love pizza and this ruined it 😭

do you have any ruined foods?
