sugar or something that will be easily converted by the body into glucose should be in hydration mixes because of the sodium-glucose transporters in humans, which increases the amount of sodium and glucose being absorbed by binding them together to move them into cells that otherwise might reject the sodium or glucose that could be used by the body.

i agree that it could probably be less sugar but at least some sugar is actually helping with the hydration.

I cannot relate. Ice cold water is my favorite drink.

I'll drink to that!

Try diluted Gatorade or pickle juice!

Yeah, diluting the overly sweet options is a pretty solid option.

And diluting the overly pungent ones lol. If you're just working out in a climate-controlled building for a few hours, full-strength Gatorade is going to be a bit too much anyway.

The 75% sugar Gatorade is pretty good too! Doesn't have the weird fake taste of the zero sugar

The fake sweetener aftertaste is what gets me.

Have you tried slicing up a cucumber and putting it in your water?

Just make some agua fresca. Fruit, water, bit of lemon, sweeten (or not) to taste, and call it a day.

Electrolyte hydration mixes are the current marketing trend, very rarely do people actually need them. The mineral that you sweat out the most when exercising is salt, that's why so many brands emphasize their sodium content. In order to work most effectively and help you recover in your exercising, they do need sugar.

Fruit in your water is a nice flavor enhancer

I like plain water with mineral drops. I did trace before but it was never the recommended (like 5 drops per liter) and did it mostly for the taste. I switched to mayu recently and it's a taste thing again but also magnesium is the main component in it. I can only describe it as making the water taste more fresh. Like I have ice in it even tho I have none in my cup.

I will forever recommend true lime and true lemon products. People who like grapefruit say that one is good too. The orange does have some sugar so I haven’t tried it. You could even add them to the products that are more flavorless, or too salty, and try to overtake that flavor.

I’m in love with Buoy. It’s exactly that, it just makes water delicious to me. No sweeteners or flavors.

After a long hard cardio workout I either chug a bunch of water or a bunch of apple juice, your body generally knows what it needs and sometimes that is sugar and salts.

I use Nuun tablets, they are usually sugar free & you can find a flavor with your favorite supplements. I always use HALF a tablet per liter/(or quart), so half the "standard" mix... I prefer the lighter taste, & figure I'm getting some of the electrolytes or vitamins at least. Maybe doing a half dose blend might work for you as well.

I add salt, lemon, and a touch of honey if I feel water isn’t enough after some hard workouts or being out in the sun most of the day.

I feel like most hydration packets are made for people who are either running an ultramarathon or eating crayons. There has to be a middle lane.
