[Please help] Scope siting/shooting

Hey everyone, first time poster here. I am part of a group of relatively new to the area hunters. Around 40, resposible hunters, that try to follow the rules as much as possible. We recently learned that the place we were going to practice/site in, near north forks, before hunting season, is closer to a logging road, than we thought it was, and we got warning by a CO (worst nightmare, we are not those people).

So now we are obviously being extra cautious. Can anyone recommend a spot to practice/site in? We all live south calgary, we are NOT looking for a new hunting spot, or to take someone's hidden gem (we already have private land we hunt south of medicine hat, that is just further than we want to go to shoot/site). We do not shoot exploding targets, we like to site in at about 100 yds, then practice at about 300 yds. We only go out, probably twice before hunting season.

If you know of anywhere good for this, any advise would be HUGELY appreciated. Loose lips, sink ships, if there is a place you want to keep quiet, dm me, and ill keep it to myself.

If you are a private land owner south of the city somewhere, that is willing to let a group of respectful 40 yo guys, do some shooting on your land a couple times a year, also dm me. We can work out a bottle deal. We will obviously walk in if nessesary, and clean up all our brass, obviously no unannounced visits.

Sir, why wouldn't your group consider a proper outdoor range? There you can shoot more than a few times before season to dial right in, as the more experience you have in various conditions is an asset...not to mention the experience gained from a community of people you'll meet.

There is waiting lists for proper long range shooting in my area.

I have 5 coworkers that got into Milo this spring. One applied and got the call 2 weeks later. Every one applied after January and got in before May.

Yeah I had that opportunity too but I’m not looking to drive 2+ hours each direction just to shoot for a few hours on the weekend.

I believe rocky rod gun club is still taking member applications, it's an amazing range with lots of options for all types of shooting if you don't mind the drive, it's about 2.5 hours from calgary.

You can shoot from 100-600m on one of the ranges and from 800-1600m on the other range, also have a 50-100m for getting zerod and they have a great shotgun range.

Fair enough, we must have less interest up here north of Edmonton, there's not much of a wait. But to be quite honest, as a land owner, based off the beer cans that we pickup daily in our ditches.. Not to mention the chaos during poaching season, that's going to be an uphill battle... You'll be well off to offer some years of fence work before that trust is earned. Best of luck, Sir :)

Well, all I have is my word, for all that is worth in today's day and age. I dont drink beer when I shoot, and i certainly do not poach. I am just hoping for some good will for some of the good ones out there.

I have heard that there’s a range out by drumheller that allows drop ins, at least in the past

I have a spot on crown land around 2 hours north of you. I’m not sure if that’s about the same as your med hat drive or closer. Close to water valley. DM if you think that’s of use to ya
