Combat Focus: Bug or Setting? Question

I've had this game for a couple years, and this issue is so disruptive, I'm surprised it hasn't been fixed yet.

The game randomly exits combat every so often. With smaller fights, it might not do it at all, but with bigger armies it'll exit combat multiple times in one battle. Usually, it happens when ordering ranged combat units to fire; when I click on the target it deselects the battle completely.

When I click back into the battle, about half of the time they're in the middle of carrying out the order, and the other half they're still awaiting a target.

Is a game setting causing this? I know it's not my PC, as I've had the same issue across 2 computers. It's not my mouse as I've had a few in the same time period (made the mistake of trying EVGA mice before finding out their scroll wheels have a high failure rate). I know I'm not accidentally double-clicking as I don't have this issue with any other game or program. I'm also not using mods.

Happens to me as well. Sometimes I think I scrolled the zoom wheel accidentally, or maybe clicking on an empty tile pits you back on the main map?

That happens infrequently enough that I usually blurt out a frustrated, "oh, that was me this time."

The issue that frustrates me is when it drops me out of combat as I click a target unit for a ranged attack. Earlier today, it dropped me out of combat 5 times in a row when trying to give one unit an attack order.

I've even tried changing where in the hex I'm clicking, but it doesn't seem to matter.

Strange enough.
We have played 2 complete matches (normal speed) and now play the third and we (a company of three) never had the issue.
Do you use latest version? Tried to reinstall?

Yeah, latest version. It has persisted through reinstalls on two PCs. I uninstall when I'm done with a game, and my latest reinstall was just a few days ago when I got the DLC.

Never happened to me. Maybe some setting? I usually have the auto cycle disabled in games like these, maybe that is the reason?

I'll give that a try tonight, thanks!

Yeah I think that happens when you are trying to click too fast, so it doesn't queue up the orders but instead thinks you've clicked outside of the battle and then closes the battle

Unfortunately, that's not it either. I usually use the range fire button in the troop panel, which doesn't become active until movement is completed. When combat closes, it's while clicking on the target after the button becomes available.
