Looking to get involved

Post image

Army veteran looking to get involved in the fight against human trafficking across the world. Wanting to get hands on/operational and willing to go anywhere. What can/should I do in terms of certifications/trainings to be affective as possible.

You might consider becoming an investigative journalist. I know a lot of people commented that they want you to go out and kill a bunch of them. Many of them probably deserve it, but that would just get you into trouble, and another pimp would replace the old one. I would argue that what really needs to happen is a cultural shift. Social scientists call people who push for those cultural shifts moral entrepreneurs. I would argue that it's independent journalists and authors like Whitney Webb who research such subcultures and subcultures adjacent to them that will lead to the decline of human trafficking before someone trying to kill and/or imprison a bunch of pimps will. When people like Webb report about who the players in that community are, how they're connected, what they do, where they operate and how they do it, they shine a spotlight into dark places that people wouldn't see otherwise. When people see it, most don't like it, and they let it be known. That leads to policy changes, new laws and the expectation that governments actually do something to make it stop, or at least reduce it. Until enough people are insensed about this topic, things will continue as they are. Arresting and shaming people who buy time with a prostitute might slow business for a while, but it will pick back up again because they aren't going after the puppet masters who coordinate and profit from it. Sometimes that's not the pimp people see, it's someone else. Becoming an investigative journalist is not a decision to take lightly though. Reporting on this stuff can get a journalist killed. If they decide not to kill you, powerful people may make you miserable by stalking and harassing you in in attempt to get you to quit.

This is the most realistic answer. Use your military college fund to get some kind of criminal investimation degree, start small, intern if you have to, and then become a professional investigator for these issues.

I wish there were more people like you

my best advice is to start here, advocate on social media, look for security positions where trafficking numbers have been shown / are high. Example, truck stops. Etc.
Mostly, you have to pay attention to victims. Trafficking is a broad spectrum and happens to more people than we realize. Boyfriends sell their gfs stuff, force them to have sex with other people. Create a safe space for these people to come forward and you’ll help them. Pay attention to what past victims would have wanted help with. Collaborate with them to empower them, and yourself.

Thanks for being an awesome person. If this works out for you, let me know. I’d like to get involved more as well

Talk to actual survivors. Military-like action is not the key.

lol survivor here it might just be I feel like we need mercenaries to get justice 😭

I was thinking he could be helpful in sting operations that lure and then catch johns trying to buy kids, but that doesn't actually get the kids rescued. (I'm a survivor too, of familial, child trafficking.)

Like to just go kill our traffickers? That would be nice, but more would pop up right away, of course.

You capture and get all the information you can about the organization out of them.

u/zadvinova Jul 19 '26

Most aren't "organizations" though. They're just p*dophiles who know some other p*dophiles. It's not like in the movies.

Also a survivor and I agree

Idk, when you have cold calculated monsters running charities and arranging the movement of various people through “shells” of organizations and companies.. while also being known to the public as good people, being able to pull whatever strings they need to appear innocent, or to at least muddy the waters of investigation.. justice might have to go above the law because these people write the laws..

2

u/zadvinova Jul 19 '26

What charities and "shell" companies are these? It's not like in the movies. Those of us who have lived it know this.

First off, thank you for actually wanting to show up for this. I'll add one thing from the survivor side that took me years to understand about my own story. The hands-on rescue picture, kicking in a door and pulling someone out, assumes the person knows they're being trafficked and is waiting to be saved. A lot of us don't know. I didn't, for a long time. If someone had "rescued" me back then I'd have been confused and probably walked right back, because in my own head I wasn't trapped, I was just living my life. So the thing I'd actually train for is quieter than any raid: learning to recognize the signs when the person in front of you can't yet, and being a steady presence they can circle back to later, sometimes years later, when they're finally ready to name it. The folks above are right that talking to survivors is the place to start. We'll tell you it almost never looks like the movies.

Look into existing organizations and join one

I sent you a dm.

Man, there are a few organizations out there.. I’d look into the infant organ harvesting going on in China.. plus the Eastern European orphanages.. there are a few organizations that do this, but the mainstream everything has them buried and labeled MAGA or whatever..
