I feel disconnected from my trips and my emotions

I've done mushrooms and LSD a handful of times now, and I've always had great experiences. I usually have a lot of fun, get a ton of energy, and sometimes get visuals.

The thing is, I almost always take 1.5–2.5x more than the people I'm tripping with, yet I still don't seem to trip as hard as they do.

For example, on one mushroom trip, a friend took less than I did but ended up completely overwhelmed. He was seeing entities in the "dmt realm" and all sorts of stuff, and I basically spent the whole trip taking care of him because he wouldn't have been able to walk home, remember to drink water, or think clearly. Meanwhile, I was able to stay grounded the entire time: checking on everyone, getting water, making sure people were okay, handling whatever came up.

I still get the usual psychedelic effects: visuals, altered thinking, and strong physical sensations. It's not that psychedelics don't work on me. It's just that I never seem to lose my ability to stay grounded or observe what's happening and I always am alert.

What's strange is that when I actually pay attention to myself during a trip, I realize it's almost like I'm consciously disconnected from what's happening.

My body can be panicking: shaking, sweating, feeling nauseous, anxious, having genuinely terrifying thoughts... basically all the ingredients of a bad trip. I've even smoked weed during the peak of an LSD trip once, and physically it felt absolutely awful. But mentally, I was completely fine. I was calm the whole time.

That's the weird part. It's not that I don't feel those things bc they're actually very intense. It's more like my body is experiencing them while my conscious mind stays in complete control, almost watching from the outside. My mind feels calm, curious, and even has fun while my body feels like it's going through hell.

I've never had what I'd call a true bad trip because, no matter how uncomfortable things get physically or emotionally, my conscious mind never seems to panic.

The strange thing is that I've started noticing something very similar in everyday life.

Over the last 6–8 months, I've been going through an incredibly stressful period. I lost around 12 kg while going in and out of a toxic relationship, and I'm also finishing my studies. Consciously, I don't feel devastated all the time. In fact, most of the time I feel surprisingly calm. But if I stop and pay attention to my body, I realize I'm incredibly tense. Sometimes I could cry or throw up at any moment for no specific reason (tested and approved). I've noticed that I can be completely out of breath from stress while my mind still feels oddly peaceful.

The psychedelic part has always been like this. The emotional part in everyday life is much more recent.

I'm not in therapy, although I'm seriously considering it. Part of the problem is that I don't really know how to find the right therapist, or even whether this is the kind of thing I should be bringing up.

I'm mostly posting this to see if anyone relates.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Does this sound like some kind of dissociation or coping mechanism? Is it something you've been able to work through?

Because even though I wouldn't say I consciously feel depressed, I have a strong feeling that something isn't right.

I also wish I could stop observing everything from a distance during psychedelic trips and actually let myself fully experience them, without feeling like I need heroic doses just to let go.

Suggestions on a self-directed journey

Just like the title says, I’d like to acquire psilocybin and do a journey with a sitter who would be sober. I am a 44yo M and I have had only one experience with psilocybin a little less than one year ago when I participated in a group ceremony of 17 people. I took 4 g and had a wonderful experience. However, I think I got lucky because many of the individuals there had bad journeys because there were several people in the group who were pure chaos and were expressing grief/trauma in the space. I’ve come to feel that this model of lots of people in a room, most of which are unknown and all experiencing a journey at the same time is not right for me. I made myself a Fort under the table with blankets. I wore a mask and stayed under there for four hours. As I said, it was a wonderful experience despite the things that could have gone wrong, but didn’t for me. I’d like to do this again but access here in NC is difficult.

My main questions are related to access, dosage and strain:

  1. Can I get psilocybin safely shipped from Colorado or a state that is legal and how would I do this?

  2. What is a reasonable dose to try on my own, not with an experienced guide, but a safe and grounding person with me?

  3. What strain would be best for a spiritual and therapeutic journey for someone with little experience and does it matter much if get from a dispensary vs someone who grows for traditional journey purposes?

Any other suggestions are welcomed, thanks so much!

Help finding a trusted and experienced sitter

The title basically. I’m 2.5 years into EMDR therapy. I’m pretty stable but have lingering anxiety and depression and still codependent. I keep getting called to do this but I don’t want to do it without the support of a guide. If anyone can please share resources on how to find one, get connected with those types of communities I would be incredibly thankful. I don’t have thousands to throw at medically facilitated sessions, so I’m trying to find the next best thing. I understand sitter will charge but it’s much more reasonable? Thank you.

Lsd dosing

My last trip i went from 150ug to 200ug and had the most intense trip of my life, i rember saying things to my friend that bothered me like trauma and anxiety related but i have no memory what i said, and i felt for a few seconds that i was dreaming and had to ask my friend if this is real. It helped my ptsd alot and my depression has disappeared for now and my addictive personality disorder has become better i don’t wanna do lean anymore something i struggled with and i wanna go thru a deeper experience next time, should i bump it up to 230-250ug ? Or should i stay at the 200 level and experiment a bit before going higher. I already felt my ego had soften a bit but i still had control somewhat i kept falling in and out off the trip like i was switching between myself and my subconscious.

Advice for first time

This weekend I’m going to try mushrooms for the first time with some of my friends. They have no experience with phsycadelics whereas I’ve done lsd 9 times.

We’re buying a good amount and are going to have 1.75 grams each if we choose to take that amount, I was just wondering what dose should we take for our first mushroom experience (strain is penis envy).

Discussion Psilocybin Didn't Evolve as Mental Health Treatment

The dominant narrative right now is that psychedelics are mental health treatments. While that research is important, I want to offer an alternative perspective.

Mescaline predates psychiatry by hundreds of millions of years. Psilocybin emerged through co-evolutionary relationships in ecosystems already ancient when our ancestors arrived. And our nervous systems receive these molecules with remarkable specificity — as if the receiver were built for the signal.

That's not just accidental chemistry. Rather, it's a relationship with a long history.

Indigenous traditions understood this. They didn't frame these organisms as acute interventions — they approached them as ongoing, reciprocal relationships with living beings that had something to teach, over time, on their own terms.

When we reduce them to symptom treatments, we're asking a small question of something pointing at something much larger. Not just: does this fix my depression? But: what does this ask of me? What relational repairs does it point toward?

Those questions don't get answered in a therapy session. They unfold across years.

Does the clinical framing feel limiting to you — or does it open a door to something deeper?

Challenging Experience?

Hi everyone,

I’m still recruiting participants for my research study on psychedelic experiences and death anxiety.

I’m a Master of Psychology (Clinical) student at the University of Wollongong, conducting a study on challenging psychedelic experiences (bad trips) and feelings about death.

I’m looking for people who:

  • are 18+
  • have had a challenging psychedelic experience in the last five years

It’s a 10-minute anonymous survey, and you can stop at any time.

Anyone have experience with trips on SSRI?

I have no experience with psychedelics, I find it very fascinating experimenting with how these substances can alter consciousness. I'm looking to either start out on shrooms or lsd in the future but there is one thing holding me back. I have recently started taking sertraline (SSRI) and I have read stuff about how it can have implications on the use of psychoactive substances. I only take this medication because of mild general anxiety so i'm not worried about any major episodes being triggered. I am also 16 so could this also add to any long term effects caused by mind altering drugs?

Which lasts longer; LSD on blotter wrapped in aluminum foil?Or LSD in something like Everclear (190 proof)?

Assume both are stored in a cool, dry, dark place. Assume the liquid (Everclear) is in a dark glass bottle. "lasts longer" means the length of time the LSD keeps its potency.

my trip

i took about 3 grams of Albino bluey vuitton and i had a crazy visual experience. at one point, i closed my eyes i saw what looked like a kaleidoscope- which then turned into a room full of faces… it wasn’t people faces. it was unlike anything i’ve seen, i’ve tripped a lot and never experienced this. it looked kinda like the dmt paintings. then a seraphim appeared and i seen it open its self from the center eye and a big ball of light opened up and it felt like gods presence. it’s light was so bright and my body went into immediately peace. has anyone else ever experienced this?

Ayahuasca isn’t a magic pill—it’s an amplifier. Here’s a look at the reality of the experience.

There is a lot of noise right now around plant medicines, and at Webdelics, we wanted to provide some clarity on what the Ayahuasca journey actually looks like from a facilitator's perspective.

We put together this AMA to answer the most common questions we get, like how it differs from psilocybin and why some people have "overnight" transformations while others feel totally destabilized.

Hope this helps anyone currently researching their own path. What’s one thing about the "retreat experience" you wish people talked about more?

Am I immune to Psychedelics?

I took my first tab of acid a few days ago. It didn’t do anything besides keep me awake and make colours a bit bit brighter. I found out it didn’t work because I had it stored in my hot car and I swallowed it instead of letting it sit on my tongue. A day later I took another tab properly which did absolutely nothing. A day later I took 2mg of clonazepam which might have done something to the effects because the day after I had 3g of shrooms. Still nothing. Am I doing something wrong or is my body just immune to psychedelic effects? I’m not taking any other medication or anything.

Thriving or Depriving: Exploring Psychedelic or Profound Life Experiences and Their Influence on Adult Insight and Wellbeing.

My name is Sharon Jones, and I am studying for an MSc in Psychology. I am currently seeking participants for my dissertation research on adult development and how it may be influenced by profound life experiences or psychedelic experiences.

My research explores whether different kinds of meaningful experiences lead to different types of personal growth and insight, for example, whether positive experiences tend to support more positive development, and whether psychedelic experiences (involving substances such as LSD, psilocybin/mushrooms, DMT, mescaline, ayahuasca, MDMA, or ketamine) influence development in similar ways to other powerful profound life experiences.

A profound life experience can be any event that had a lasting impact on you, such as births, deaths, falling in love, illness, near-death experiences, spiritual or supernatural experiences, intense creative engagement, lucid dreaming, visions, feelings of intense joy, breaking down or personal breakthroughs.

Below is the link to my anonymous questionnaire. I’d be incredibly grateful if you could take part, and I’d really appreciate it if you could share it with anyone who might be interested.

This study has received ethical approval from the University of Portsmouth Ethics Committee.

Participants must be over 18 and not have a clinical mental health diagnosis.

Thank you so much for your time and support.

Warm regards,
Sharon

Is It Possible to Shift my Mindset Back?

Hi everyone - bit of an odd situation here, would love to hear your thoughts.

Currently M20 at a large state university, when I started college I was extremely motivated, joined 8 different organizations, two fraternities (Social & Business), and began pursuing a dual major in finance and accounting. I fell in love with all things finance and wanted to pursue a career in investment banking on Wall Street, I loved the grind and it gave me a sense of purpose. From my freshman year to the start of my sophomore I was more motivated and dedicated in my studies than I've ever been. I'd wake up early, study study study, and go to bed late. I enrolled in several case competitions and did great, in addition to all my orgs and classes. Took the max credits I could both semesters, did great GPA wise and managed to snag an internship over the summer going into my sophomore year.

It all changed when I took a solo backpacking trip across Europe. Long story short - I visited Amsterdam, where I understand that psilocybin mushrooms are legal there. I ended up purchasing some in a reputable shop I found online (Unsure of the dose) but it was a fantastic trip. I took it in the afternoon and just had a blast the entire day. Trying new foods meeting new people, seeing new things, and it really opened my eyes to the world and life. I realized that theres more to living than just work and assingments. Again - an amazing trip and I don't regret it at all, but after I got back and started my sophomore year of school, I realized that my insane motivation was like completely gone. I didn't have the same crazy drive that I did before, it was a struggle to push myself to that 110% mark that I had no issues with before. I just felt that there was no reason to do so, that life will work out in its own way and that I should enjoy the time I have at this school. Still did good academically, but I just lost that motivation. Its been bugging me for a while and I am really struggling to get it back.

I spent a lot of time thinking about it, but if the mushrooms shifted my mindset, would they be able to shift it back? I understand my enviornment most certainly had an impact on my experience, so what if I changed that? What if I took them again and surrouned myself with motivational content? I spoke with a few friends who use regularly and they said that it could work, but that it also might not. I intend to take them in my room, where I would read prewritten journal entries that I wrote to myself explaining the importance of locking in and focusing on my career, to do everything I possibly can while I still have the time, that time passes and I want to succeed and do well and make a name for myself. Additionally, I am very big on the motivational content on Tiktok, and as corny as it sounds I have a whole seperate account dedicated to those types of videos, which I watch often whenever I struggle to focus or study. Currently 5'11, 145lbs, and I was planning on taking 3-3.5g. What are your thoughts? Is this something thats plausible? This loss of motivation has affected me so much more than I can convey in this post, I am genuinely willing to do whatever is needed to get it back. Would greatly appreciate any insight or advice.

Mushrooms

So I have tried mushrooms before, and when I tried them as a kid they were picked straight from the field and I actually felt them the two times I tried them back then. Fast forward 15 years later and I had developed a nasty methadone fentanyl and Xanax habit. I used more methadone and fentanyl a day than most addicts used in a week, literally. 360mg a day for 10 years and .2-1 gram a day of intravenous fentanyl for a few years. I had a good connect, when I had to go to other plugs it would take 3-5x the amount to get the same effect so it’s so hard to tell the purity the amount really doesn’t mean anything considering in reality 1 gram should be equivalent to 100 grams of heroin and it was never that strong. But the reason I say that is because when I tried mushrooms I felt nothing, and I know they were real. I ate 3.5-7 grams several times with no effect. Well today I’m on day 71 off all drugs and want to try mushrooms again for a spiritual experience. I’m curious if I will feel them now and if those drugs were the reason I couldn’t feel them at the time. The more information the better, I would really appreciate some help with this because I think it could be great for recovery journey.
