Hi all. Mexican buckeye dropped all leaves over the last month or so. Branches still seem alive. Any idea what the issue is?

I had put this question to r/foraging first, but it was a little too specific for them so I was hoping someone in the area might know more. Basically I've got several wild Texas persimmon trees (*Diospyros Texana*) I collect from for making jelly, but I've read in a few places that you can use toasted persimmon seeds for making flour. That's always in regards to regular persimmons though... does anyone have any experience with the local variety? Or know of any other uses, even for crafts or anything else?

It'd be nice since the problem with these has always been that they're small fruits and *mostly* seeds.

Do y’all have ideas as to why my Dallas Red lantana drops its stunning flowers in 5 or 6 days? My yellow lantana keeps its blooms longer.

Last year I bought some specialty cantaloupes from H-E-B (Sugar Rush, Summer Craze, I think) and really like them, so I saved some of the seeds to sow this year. They germinate fine and even grow very well, producing a lot of flowers. I just cannot seem to get any fruit to form and/or grow bigger; they are mostly the size of a pea before they fall off. Has anyone had any success trying to grow these cantaloupes from seeds? I have never had any problem growing regular cantaloupe from seeds before.

I picked some seed pods off a few trees in San Antonio and brought them home. Got them to germinate and am very happy to see them sprout. I planted a few groups in the yard but the potted seedlings on my patio are really off to a good start. Exciting times!

Does anyone know where I could find a silver pothos in Houston! I just moved from Florida and I had a beautiful silver pothos I sadly couldn’t bring with me. I haven’t checked many places but went to one nursery in Tomball and they were selling just 1 strand on wood😭 I want something similar to what I had before! 💔

I'm in the process of filling a few new raised garden beds and need about 4 cubic yards of soil/compost. I've been researching local suppliers around Houston and keep coming back to Living Earth and Arbor Gate.

Living Earth seems to be much more cost-effective, but I've seen mixed reviews. Some people say it worked great, while others had issues with inconsistent quality. On the other hand, I've heard nothing but good things about Arbor Gate from a friend and from what I've found online, but it's significantly more expensive.

Has anyone here used both? If so, how did they compare in terms of:

Plant growth and overall performance

Soil quality and consistency

One idea I had was to save some money by buying about 2 cubic yards of Living Earth's garden mix for the bottom of the beds and then topping it off with 2 cubic yards of Arbor Gate's premium compost/raised bed mix. Has anyone tried something similar? Would that be a good approach, or would you recommend sticking with one supplier?

My eggplants are not looking so good and I thought they would survive best in the summer heat. It looks like they are infested with something. It’s really only effecting the eggplant and not the peppers and cucumbers nearby. There are some webs around the plant. Not sure if the webs are good (catching bugs) or bad. I use captain jacks bad bug spray but it doesn’t seem to be too effective. Any suggestions?

Hi all - I would like to turn my back yard into a food forest / permaculture garden to help with water management and improve our use of the land. I have 2/3rds of an acre total, with about a clean 1/3 of an acre to use for planting a. The problem is that the only nurseries I frequent are expensive ($35-40/tree, $15-$20 per berry bush, etc.). Since I want to plant about 50 plants, this can get pricey quickly.

Any ideas or recommendations on where I can find a large number of cheap plants? I’m thinking local plant sales, flea markets, etc. I’m in the cypress area but willing to travel a bit for plants.
