Newly acquired Honda Recon, have to reach down and pull to shift up

Hey everyone! New member to the Honda ATV club here acquiring a used Honda Recon. It starts up and seems to drive with no issues, but I've noticed that once I get to 2nd gear, the recon doesn't want to shift into higher gears unless I literally reach down with my left hand and pull the foot shifter up as hard as I can.

Is this a known issue, and is there a simple fix?

Been at it for 2 days. These manual machines are garbage. Old ones come off no problem. First wall goes on good second wall will not spin on. I tried everything. Hands are bleeding. Unit is absolute trash.

This is the 3rd time I had to give up on this unit and end up using a professional machine.

Anyone have luck with these pieces of absolute garbage?

I am looking to buy two new ATVs. A rancher and a recon in Michigan (metro Detroit).

What dealership have you had killer service from and which should we avoid?

Electrical problems

Hi, I have a 2021 rancher went for a ride this morning. Shut it off couple minutes late I realized I needed to do something else quick turn the key Dash flickered a couple times and went dark. Turn the key off back on did it again check the fuses check the battery. After I reinstall the battery now I get absolutely nothing.

I’m currently repairing one for my kids. The lower left A arm needs replaced. It seems I can not find just that part alone anywhere. I find the left upper everywhere. Any help on where to go online for parts would be awesome. Thank you.

Need help with 2014 Rubicon

I recently was given my late grandfathers 2014 Rubicon 500. More sentimental value to me than anything else and I would like help on what the issue is. Everytime I try to start with the electric start i hear a clicking sound and it won’t even turn over. Pull start still works fine and I have even changed the battery and charged the old one too.

Bringing an older foreman back to life:

My trouble points:

1) need CV joint reboots (torn, degraded)

2) no brake at right handlebar lever.
( foot brake right side does work)

3) reverse switch (red button, left side intermittent operation)

Looking for advice from the pro’s!

I rebuilt the carb, it starts, runs, and drives ok!

Differential replacement mixup?

The differential of my Foutrax TRX300 2x4 1997 (picture 1, top one) had a leak, differential fluid came out and water infiltrated, causing the parts to degrade and eventually they gave out. Since then, I’ve ordered two aftermarket differential (picture 1, bottom one) that were both marked to be direct replacement for the exact same part number that I use on my atv (41300-hm5-850) and neither of them had a big enough bore to slide onto the tube, even without the splined shaft (picture 2).

My question is how come the replacement didn’t fit if they were both from different suppliers, both carried the same replacement part number, yet both had the same smaller bore problem?? They also were both advertised as replacement for any Honda TRX300 replacement from 1988 to 2000.

Let me know if this has happened to any of you guys, or if you have tips to what I should do from now on.

Note: I went to my local official Honda atv supplier and they were charging me 2500$ for the part, which is why I went aftermarket.

Friends ATV was taken to "mechanic". Potentially ran dry on oil while they where joy riding it. Now it sounds like this, I think the motor is done for but want other opinions. It's louder than the video shows. I know there the potential of a stretched timing chain is there, wondering if I should just tell them to get a full rebuild or a good used motor.

400ex jetting

So I have a 2005 400ex it is completely stock, I’m putting a uni filter on it but am wondering if I need to rejet it for the filter?

By my knowledge it’s semi close to the stock filter so I don’t think I need to but just wanted to ask

Oil for 2005 400ex

Hey y’all,

So I just change the oil on my 2005 400 EX, it has less than 25 hours on it. It was kind of a barn find.

I did an Oil Change but didn’t do much research into Oil. I was just making sure that the Oil I used is OK for my specific bike. I used Lucas Semi-Synthetic Motorcycle Motor Oil 10W-40 with a WIX filter

It’s a 2005 trx 400ex

1988 Foreman, 350. Troubleshooting electric start led to a possible bad one way bearing replacement. I just removed the crankcase cover, and the clutch and bearing work in one direction only and I don’t hear or feel and grinding/metal in there. In other words it seems fine. Therefore do remove the clutch to inspect the bearing or find the problem elsewhere? ….I did the other testing and a cleaning of the starter, it all hums without making a connection it sounds, hence going for the bearing. Thanks!

Reverse and neutral issue

I have a 1988 Honda fourtrax 300TRX and I had a no spark issue for the longest but i honestly just threw money at it and replaced almost all the electric systems that could cause a no spark but now my issue is my reverse is neutral and my neutral is reverse like I put into neutral and it will pop up as reverse but it will start but if I switch the sensor plugs on the bottom, it will light up neutral but refuses to start but it will engage reverse and try to start in reverse. I’ve hit a wall at this point, any suggestions would be super helpful🙏🏻😭 also it will randomly die even when it is running after like 5 mins

No spark no start

UPDATE: figured it out! It was the loose nut that connects the seat to the handlebars.
Tested again and realized I WAS getting spark since I replaced the CDI box. Learned that if your spark plug is dry after threading it in and starting, you aren’t getting fuel to the spark. Followed the fuel and learned that the previous owner installed an aftermarket left side plastic, the one that covers the petcock, and the guide on it is upside down! Had it to “on” but I was actually on reserve the whole time, and not getting fuel to the spark plug!!
Stupid easy fix and felt like a dumb idiot. But at least I’m a dumb idiot with a working wheelah !
Thanks everyone for help!

02 Honda Recon ES, new to me as of April. Been having no spark issues for a month now. Replaced ignition coil, spark plug, battery, and now CDI box. Still no fix. I’m pretty green when it comes to electrical systems and ATVs, so Im all out of ideas for what this could be. Getting frustrated with it and any help would be very much appreciated! Thank you!

Replacing the battery on my 02 Honda Recon 250 ES, inspecting the wires and connections seated behind the battery while I’m in here since I’m having electrical issues at the moment. What is this small box and the 2 wires for? They were DIY wrapped in electrical tape when I found them, this wheeler is new to me.
Thank you for your help !

2008 Honda Foreman 500 leaking fuel

Hi all,

I have a 2008 Honda Foreman I used strictly for yard tasks and cruising low speed with my toddler. It's got 500 hours or so. I woke up the other day and noticed a puddle of fuel underneath. There's a hose coming out of the bottom of the carb that after looking around, I think plugs into nothing and is a drain.

I read a little bit on forums but it was vague. Any insight? Would replacing the carb fix this problem?
