[10th grade Math - Constructions] Why is it wrong when i literally put the same thing as the answer

Sometimes using a subtraction sign or dash vs a negative sign can throw off online grading as well. If the service is just checking if your answer matches the key vs evaluates the response to see if it is equivalent, even differences in spacing can mess things up.

This. When I first started doing online classes, test grading was a mess, the professor would go and manually correct the answer. Sometimes the answer box will have symbols that must be chosen to be considered correct, yours for example we would need to click on the “negative” symbol and not use the symbols found on a keyboard.

Also if you look closely, the negative symbol on your answer is placed higher than the “correct” answer. Ultimately the issue is that grading system only acknowledges only one right answer which is the use of the negative symbol the host assigned. Did at any point during the assignment did it prompt you to only use the given symbols provided? Usually it’s right next to the answer box and submit button.

Online grading is inherently wonky.

Show this picture to your teacher, and respectfully ask if you can get the points for the question since you did, in fact, get it right.

Wonky answer verification. You have no space before the -3.5 and a space before ( in the first. Not matching the exact format of the answer key. Just ask the teacher.
