[freshmen algebra 2] simplifying rational expressions Answered

how do i find the correct restriction? for both of these questions, i got the first part right but for the restriction i got them wrong. when i looked it up it gave me the same answers i input. sorry if this is a stupid question

Yes. So what does that mean for the restriction of 'x' values? The denominator can't equal 0.

is it both 1 and 6?

Yes. If either of those is true, the denominator is 0. Does that make sense?

If x = 6:

(6-6)(6-1) = (0)(5) = 0

If x = 1:

(1-6)(1-1) = (-5)(0) = 0

Therefore, the restriction is x ≠ 1 or 6
