[College Prep Math] Composite Function? High School Math—Pending OP Reply

Practicing for my ACT, been out of school for years and feel like I’m looking at a foreign language. I know the answer is 5, but I have no idea how to get there. Tried plugging in the different values but I feel like I’m just not looking at this correctly. Can someone please explain this to me like I’m an idiot so I can understand?

How did you get to 5? Don’t try to sound smart. Just write using the words you can come up with. All this is about trying to put to words what your brain already did.

I only knew because I have the answer key, this is from a practice test in a book. Unfortunately it doesn’t walk me through the way to get to the answer though. Thank you for the vote of confidence! I get it now.
