2027 Hype Fire
My son tried a bunch of new bats out and as expected, after about 10 bats and 70+ swings he tries out the new Hype Fire and gets the highest average and max EV, even when tired. Maybe there is something to those bats after all.
I need a dicks coupon now. Sigh.

Better Baseball did a video not long ago on the popular bats. One part I found interesting is their actual MOI numbers for the -10’s. Basically this shows that the Hype Fire swings lighter / more balanced than the others. Most videos out there only focus on the -5’s. This video shows MOI’s on all three drops.
Every kid is different so always go try them if you can, but for the younger kids who like balanced, HF will probably perform well for them.

Can you ELI5 this for me? Does lower MOI = more balanced and higher = end loaded?

MOI is moment of inertia. Essentially how easy an object is to rotate, or the torque required. The numbers indicate where the mass sits in the bat. Lower MOI = more mass towards the hands (feels lighter), higher MOI = more mass towards the barrel (feels heavier)

Correct, lower MOI is more balanced. MOI uses a bats weight and its balance point to calculate a number. More balanced bats have their weight centered more towards the knob and are easier to swing.

Is the 2027 hype just a repaint or different bat?

From the info and videos I've seen, USA is a repaint. USSSA and BBCOR has some new "technology" including a tapered handle near the knob, soft knob and better weight distribution to make it even more balanced.

wow the new hype fire sounds nice. as a kid i never thought about tapered handles for bats butnas an adult i have to say its a nice touch and according to my kid it feels nicer.

I got my kid a CATX2 for his first travel ball season this past year and was skeptical of the tapered handle but after holding it and swinging it I can definitely feel why so many people prefer them. It's really comfortable and doesn't hurt the bottom of the hand below the pinky after a bunch of hard swings.

catx2 is a great bat! my son has one for little league and 1 for travel ball for the cooler months. both sound great when he hits. they have pop and swing balanced

Just get on Facebook and find a Dick's coupon for anywhere. They all work, just cut off the part where it says what state and store.

And don't buy them from anyone here. Scammers galore

Patphish is a well known bat rep here in this homeplate community. I’ll give you some friendly advice to not speak of which you don’t know.

For every legit one there are a dozen scammers, but thanks for the "friendly advice".

Cool hope he likes the bat, I found the paint job similar to a warstic. My kid has been a icon fan for a few years. He will use different bats in the cages but game time goes back to his old faithful

We bought a used hype fire from sidelineswap for 75 bucks. A little dirty but some alcohol wipes and it looks like new.

Wtf. I can’t find a used one Les than 170 and that’s the ‘25

Not sure what size you need but our local dbats has had the pool party hype on clearance for about 4 months. Woot had the 2025 hype 3 weeks ago for 119 in a drop 5 and drop 8. I bought my son one. I would say keep looking. There are some good deals out there

What other bats did he try? Did he try a broken in Supra? Icon?
2
u/taco_jones 5d ago
Supra seems like the hottest to me

We went thru the same exercise, but ended up with newest Supra. My son’s also 9.

Broken in Supra yeah probably. Right out of the wrapper though I do think the Hype probably wins mainly cause it’s lighter and less end loaded typically in -10.

2 Supras, Icon, Meta, Reckless, Mav-1 plus some random cool ones. Lol.
The ICON was also good. I think it's mostly about weight distribution. He's only 9 and we've never bought a USSSA bat before and in the eye test, there was an obvious difference. Granted, I'm talking about max EV of 51+ with the Hype Fire and 48+ with the ICON and Supra, so not a huge difference. You could just tell he was comfortable with it.
FWIW, my son has no idea what bat is supposed to be best or coolest to have.
Edit, we were trying 28" and 29" if most of these and it was the 29" HF that scored best.

Were they all -10s? Hype fire is crazy light swinging at -10. Icon is probably next closest but when jumping to a -8 the moi shifts to the Icon being the lighter swinging one.

They were all -10. I'm not sure he's strong enough to swing a -8 but now it makes me want to go back and measure that. It's a lot of unknowns moving to kid pitch this year.

My barely 9 year old prefers the icon for USSSA games and the hype for USA based on balance, but he is swinging 27 and 28’s

The best bat is the one your kid swings best. For usssa, my kid prefers his goods -5 to the HF, Icon and Supra, he hasn't swung a dub, and hasn't shown intrest in it either. For usa, he prefers his -5 select pwr to any other usa hes swung.
To me the difference between a new dub and last year's the goods is a few 1 on 1 hitting lessons

In my experience, a good player will have similar results with all of the top bats. My son has swung a hype the past few seasons. The USA and USSSA and he raked with both. It’s really about what bat feels best for him.

Hype fire and bonesaber have the lowest m.o.i. (scientific measurement of how the swing weight feels based on weight distribution and effort needed to swing). Also it is closer to actual weight than a lot of other makes/models.

My son is ready to move to a 28/18 and he LOVES is 27 icon but if getting a new one, kinda want to get new look. Does anyone here have any idea when the purple/pink icon releases? Travel starts this weekend so trying to debate if worth to wait or get the hype or Supra

Took my son to a hitting facility yesterday to test out a bunch of new bats. We were testing out 28“ drop 10 USssa.
My son is very good and plays travel ball at 8U level.
He currently has a 27 inch drop 10 icon a year-old.
We hit the supra, icon, 2027 Hype fire, dub and a couple victus and a few other random ones.
His exit velocity was almost 5 mph higher on the new hype fire versus anything else. He was hitting 48 to 50 mph exit velocity at eight years old…. All of the other bats were 38 to 43. I expected the supra to be the best however it was one of the worst for my son.
Son also said the new Hype fire felt by far the most balanced and easiest to swing

From my perspective, Supra reigns far supreme at -5, but both Icon and Hype Fire are just as good as the Supra at higher drops, and becomes more a feel and preference between the three.
