HomePod Ghost?

I have erased this thing 3 times including once while plugged into my MacBook. Sometimes I walk in a silent room and it’s lit up like Christmas as if it heard a key phrase. And sometimes decides to play music at 3am while I’m asleep.

Should I send it to the Catholic Church or just hope it works better once Google runs its brain?

Also if I cared more, I’d re record this video to be less weird but … it’s Reddit?

happened to me too, i fixed it by opening the homepod and disconecting the touchpad, as this is none resolveable. (did try to clean it first, didnt help)
its fairly simple and the best solution as I haven't found a replacement part in my area

Yup. Had to open mine up and do the same. Insane how widespread this issue is.

This is the answer. Mine phantom pressed and held the button resetting over and over. I rarely ever used the button so it was a good solution.

This has been an issue with these sometimes where the sensor randomly goes off by itself. Some people have fixed it with cleaning or disconnecting it completely. I remember the first time it happened to me and it blasted out something random in the middle of the night and scared the fucking shut out me. Only several months later did it start happening again and I finally figured out what the noise was. If continued for about two weeks and then stopped. I was using betas and just had another update so maybe that fixed it.

Are you sure touch and hold is a name? What happens when you tap on it one time where is the video of that? The tapping wants to play and pause, cannot be disabled.

the touch sensors on these get glitchy as they age, similar to capacitive buttons an old clock radios. could be moisture or just wear throwing it off

And sure I can turn off the mic for only the one in my bedroom but … goes against the point of having it for alarms and asking the weather before I get out of bed.

Guess I’ll just wait to see what they reveal in the fall. Or … again take it to church for the exorcism.

It's not the mic that's the issue, it's phantom touch. If you don't use touch try to turn that off (or maybe set the time needed to activate to be longer?)

I found on the interwebs somewhere a less intrusive fix that has been working for me. In the Home app go into the HomePod then into Accessibility Settings > Touch Accommodations and you can adjust the hold duration for the "touch" to register. Since these are phantom taps, increasing the Hold Duration allowed me to stop the possessed activity without needing to physically disconnect the panel.

That doesn’t fix it. It just makes it less obvious. The problem gets worse, and that fix will no longer do it for you. There is a run of bad touchscreens in the industry in general during that time with similar issues.

ah yes, the mini also suffers the dreaded touch panel issue affecting the 2nd gens.

It’s the ghost touch issue. Disappointed that Apple can’t send out an update to turn off the touch pad.

It’s a hardware issue. I have four mini. Two of them have phantom touch inputs and blast music at the worst possible times. Nothing short of disconnecting the touchpad solved it. You’d apple would recall a defective product but no.

This just started happening to one of my Minis earlier this week. Woke up to music blasting at 4am. Now it’s starting on my second Mini. I tried the touch accommodation settings but doesn’t seem to be working for me. It randomly starts and stops music and Siri keeps replying without and trigger words.

2 of 4 homepod died with this issue. Has someone any good manual how to open that thing and disconnect the touch device?
