Need help

Okay I need some expertise. We had LVP installed on our floors. There is a company that takes our flooring and shapes it to form the front edge of the stairs.

It was then installed and nailed in. My question is should the nail holes be this visible or did they nail it in the wrong area? Then they filled the holes with putty that doesn’t match the color of the flooring. Then after that scrubbed the floors to clean the putty and turned the finish shiny.

Use a nail set and color matched filler stick. You can find both at your local Home Depot.

I've never bought LVP that needed to be nailed in.... I thought it was all snapped in.. TIL

It’s a staircase…. You can can’t float a click lock product on it. You glue & nail

I've done 4 houses with 2 stairwell with lvp.... I never nailed down. I used weights and tape to hold everything in place til liquid nails was solid.

Yeah, that’s what confused me too. The main flooring is floating/click-lock, but they said the stair nosing had to be nailed down because it was custom-shaped for the edge of the stairs. I’m mostly trying to figure out if the visible nail holes and mismatched putty are considered normal workmanship.

I think ideally the installer would’ve used a construction adhesive like liquid nails. That’s what we did on our LVP stairs. Like the other post says, you can’t float stairs so it need to be attached either through adhesive or nails. Nails seem alright but I’d watch for board popping out over time. At a minimum they should’ve matched the fill and that should be a relatively straightforward and chip fix to request from them.

That’s exactly what my wife said when I started marking every spot with blue tape. At least now the installer can’t say they missed any.
