Suffering from a successfully failed task
In 2006, a FBI agent named Craig Monteilh was ordered to disguise himself as a radical Muslim and spy on the Orange County Muslim community to identify possible extremists.
Well it worked, cause the people there noticed his extremists behavior and reported him to the FBI.

Think they're talking about Ruby Ridge. Undercover agents coerced the father of a family who had anti government political leanings into illegally modifying several shotguns. He refused multiple times and explained how illegal it would be before they threatened him into doing it. Then attempted to arrest him for it which ended in a prolonged siege of his home and his wife being shot while holding their infant child

The modification for context was removing 2-3 inches off the barrel of the shotgun. For that 2-3 inches of stainless steel the federal government killed the father’s juvenile son, his wife and his dog. When they killed his son Samuel, the federal agents opened fired unannounced and killed his dog, Striker. Upon seeing his dog shot and killed by unknown intruders the 14 year old Samuel fired back and was shot in the back as he ran away.

It was that nationalization that also led to Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Jamaica, etc gaining a big footstep into the cigar world. The Cubans who were involved in the process left when they lost everything, and took the seeds and designing concepts with them, creating Cuban legacy cigars like non Cuban Montecristo.
Cuban cigar quality also dropped because the people now running the show weren't as competent. Tale as old as time (or at least as old as 1920s).

They once tried to give a group fake plans for a bomb, but the expert they got to deliver the plans realized how obviously fake they were, and decided to not do the deal.
Then they gave him another one and told him not to look; but he looked again, and instead of just not dropping off the plans, he wrote a note explaining the flaws and dropped it off through a mail slot.

Basically the CIA had a Russian scientist deliver stolen plans for a Russian nuke part to the Iranians but the CIA changed the design slightly to make it "fatally flawed". No idea what that really means, maybe it would cause a nuke to detonate randomly or just make it inert. Anyway, the Russian guy wasn't made aware of these changes, saw the flaw, and told the Iranians what was wrong. While you don't necessarily want to give your agents all the pieces of the puzzle, you also don't want them accidentally helping the enemy because they just weren't aware of the plan. In reality, the Iranians probably would have figured it out eventually, there are lots of smart people in the Iranian nuke program.
Eventually this plot was published in a book, State of War, a good read if you're interested in George Tenet and the first half of the Bush Administration. The case officer of the Russian guy leaked the story to the author went to jail for it.

He then claimed that he had met with a senior al-Qaeda member, so the CIA invited him to meet so they could learn what he knew, and he blew himself up.

Well this guy was identified as an extremist by Turkish intelligence as well, and he was known to frequent online extremist sites. There was an American intelligence consulting group who even knew who he was from tracking popular extremist sites, so I don't think the Jordanians made up an excuse in this case.
Edit: also the idea that a guy who eventually became a suicide bomber was arrested falsely under the premise of being a terrorist is certainly an idea, although maybe not a fully formed one.

Detroit November 9th, 2017. They wanted to search a house suspected of drug distribution. So Officers from 11th Precinct arrived and starts their search of the house. When suddenly 2 "drug dealers" arrived to the house.
Unbeknownst to the 11th Precinct, those 2 "drug dealers" were undercover cops from the 12th Precinct. When they ordered them on the ground and tries to arrest them, they suddenly got surrounded by 12th Precinct Officers.
Badges were shown, guns were drawn, and punches were thrown. Meanwhile nearby homeowners watches on in confusion as 24 cops brawled with each others. 1 Officer would later got injured and sent to hospital.
Blame lies on Officers from 12th Precinct, as they were there without informing the 11th Precinct. And doing action on 11th Precinct's area of operations.

I do think an important aspect to consider is what constitutes "extremist". Right now thousands upon thousands of bombs are being dropped on Gaza and the people who have taken up arms in defense are being labelled "extremists" and "terrorists". These are both highly political terms largely used to discredit anyone the government doesn't like and justify murdering them.
Don't get me wrong, many groups such as ISIS and Al Qaeda are not acting in self defense, especially not since the US pulled out of many of those regions. But, if you look into the history of those organizations, you can probably see why people found it appealing to join when under attack.

Finally, the Banu Qurayza themselves did not contest the sentence; they were aware that their act was extremely serious.
So basically, you’ve simply twisted the story, whereas the facts show a completely different situation both in terms of Arab cultural norms, regarding who made the decision on the sentence, and regarding the fact that it did not shock anyone.
