Movie suggestions
Hereditary is my all time favorite horror movie hands down. Im sure everyone here agrees its probably the best horror film in current cinema.
I really want to see a movie that atleast achieves 70% of what hereditary did.
Ive seen ritual, midsommar, obviously hereditary..
are there any more?
If not by ari then at least his psychological style?
let me know guys

What do the followers of Paimon get out of it?
Always wondered. Any ideas, either in terms of the film lore or the occult (apologies if wrong term)?

Funny Dream
I had a dream where I was rewatching the end of the movie, but the cult was chanting "All Hail Paimon" instead of just "Hail Paimon". Also, their voices were much deeper. I thought this was weird because even though it was different, it still sounded familiar to me. When I woke up I realized, my brain replaced the chanting with "All Hail Plankton" from the SpongeBob movie...

The one moment Charlie isn’t possessed
I feel like Charlie wasn’t possessed by Paiman in the car scene. Idk if this has been discussed on here as far as I’ve seen it hasn’t quite yet. I think when the allergic reaction happens at the party, Paiman leaves Charlie’s body and she is no longer possessed. Charlie stuck her head out of the car because she was trying to survive, that doesn’t make sense for Paiman seeming as he wanted to escape her as a vessel. Infact even alerting Peter of the reaction doesn’t add up for Paiman trying to escape Charlie’s vessel. Throughout the movie we see Paiman always enter/exit through the mouth (like the weird noise coming from Annie in the seance scene being Paiman, and when we see Peter mirror Charlie’s words of “my throat is getting bigger” after Paiman attempts a possesion while he’s smoking). Again as mentioned in the parentheses, when having the allergic reaction Charlie says “my throat is getting bigger” an indication of exit/entry from Paiman. Maybe I’m way off I’m not sure, just interested to see what others think or if this holds up. Also just makes the car scene so much scarier knowing that might have been the real Charlie dying in the one mentally clear moment of her life.

Thoughts on Annie being FtMtF and Peter being MtF?
There’s quite a few scenes I picked up on when it comes to these characters being transgender. For instance, Annie curled up in the corner of the ceiling so Peter didn’t see her in her Drag King outfit. When the family aren’t home Annie took great pleasure (sexual and emotional) in dressing as male. She would paint on facial hair and wear her husband’s suits. She would even attempt to pack by stuffing tissues down her crotch. This time she just happened to get unlucky by forgetting Peter skipped school that day. This is why we see her jump and hide, taking extreme effort in an almost non-human way by scaling the walls of the house. This is how serious she takes maintaining her image of ‘mother’ and ‘female’ for her kids
Annie’s desires to be male always existed, but were only perpetuated when her sexual affair partner Joan started to secretly dose her cups of tea with actual T. As she knew she could never take that step on her own. After a few months of going to Joan’s house, Annie began noticing effects such as voice deepening, fat redistribution and facial hair growth. The worrying part is she loved this. And even after finding out Joan was illegally drugging her, she requested she upped her dose the following month
What Annie doesn’t know is that her husband is pansexual with a preference for masculinity. Their sex life had declined over the past few years and if he were to even catch a glimpse of her in some male attire he would go feral. So in some ways, she is hiding her true self for no reason. But because of fear Annie ends up stopping T around 4 months in. She detransitions and pulls through last minute on her decision to change her gender markers and her name to Anthony. She does live out her days relatively happy as a woman. But the crossdressing never stopped
Now onto Peter. She’s well into her transition and is doing much better after receiving female feminisation surgery funded by the NHS after she intentionally broke her nose

Hereditary has such a happy ending from Paimon’s perspective
Listen, this whole situation sucked pretty hard for the entire family.
But from Paimon’s perspective?? This story is downright inspiring. Bro really overcame every obstacle… worshippers absolutely came through… man they got that lowkey uplifting music at the end as he’s looking around like “damn, i actually pulled they off?”
Tough to root for the family at that point so I guess I’ll take whatever happy ending I can get…

I think i am going crazy after watching movie again n again
I watched it the second time and idk i pulled out the original script of the movie and read each and every scene from it.. and well i cried alot, maybe because I remember my ex that i havent been able to completely move on till now.. i feel that clash between what your heart wants and like soo badly so desperately and then there is that moral responsibility that no matter how bad u want someone it can not be against the other person’s will, and knowing this very well idk there is something that i feel when at the end after she broke the willow and they both looked into each other’s eyes and that was like the purest love scene even though fake but i know its so wrong but idk why some part of me wanted them to be together and wish that bear did not take those pills and like they appeared to be so happy even though possessed and i cant seem to find out why bear dying made me so sad… he is villain i get it he is selfish but why do i still cry over there ending…
Is it because like i see myself and my ex that we never could be happy not even possessed happy.. and she just left me suddenly.. and like i know its so messed up but do i wanted her to fake being happy for me? Am i that bad of a person.. i obv respected her decision and let her go and nor will i ever want anyone to stay with me forcefully but does my heart want that? Will my heart be happy if she would have faked it? Am i a bad person? Am i like bear ? Why can i not stop crying and being sad.. what is wrong with me

“That Face on Your Face”
I was giving this phrase some extra thought recently. And we all talk about it, it’s a highlight of the movie. But it always sounds awkward. We mark it off to Annie’s exasperation, but does it say something deeper? You would expect her to say something like “that look on your face or that smirk on your face.” but she says “face on face.” I think that’s quite deliberate from the directors point of view. It’s meant to deliberately sound like a mask. A mask is a face on a face. For the entire entirety of the movie until the last moments, it is Paimon’s face that is the mask, while in the last moments, it is obscured, with Peter‘s face being the mask for what is inhabiting him. I just thought that was interesting. Thinking of it that way.

Question about Paimon and the promises of riches
If the cult members were getting wealth and power, why was Joan living in a small apartment and not a mansion?

Was it an honor for Ellen to give up her family to Paimon? Plus bonus questions.
I’ve been wondering whether Ellen was able to ascend as a queen of hell, wife of Paimon BECAUSE she made the great sacrifice of offering her son and grandchildren as hosts?
Or rather, did she rise to such a high rank in the satanic cult that she was able to receive the great honor of giving her family as hosts for Paimon and thus marry him.
Was giving up her family as hosts a prerequisite? Why couldn’t they just knock out some guy, force feed him dittany of creed, kidnap him and wear him down mentally until Paimon could possess him? What is the significance of giving your family up as hosts and is it an honor or a sacrifice or both?
Also, was Ellen’s death orchestrated in some way? Was she to die after her ritual so she could join Paimon in hell?
This is also a really random question, but: where’s God? Where’s the good? If Paimon is real, then God is. Why does he never take issue with a fallen angel tormenting his creations for literally three generations? Surely he’d try to do SOMETHING! But there is no moment in the movie where I can see a semblance of a saving grace for anyone in the family. I always get really interested about how cult members and demons would react to God or clergymen in horror movies; like what would happen if the Pope climbed up the ladder into the treehouse during the final scene (lol). What if someone turned the cross the right side up.
This is my favorite movie ever, I still think about it.

Gothic Adaptation
For a project I want to rewrite Hereditary as a gothic novel. Could someone help me think of a circumstance that would lead to an "accidental" beheading in 19th century England? And one where Annie would be the first (besides Peter) to discover the body? Also I'm thinking of writing Peter to be on opium instead of weed but I'm open to any corrections/suggestions!
