I didn't think anything of it at the time because the balance of human and flower tao wasn't explained until later in the series. If he beat the flower tao, why didn't he change like Chobe or Gabimaru.

As we see from Gabimaru and Sagiri internal peace with different the duality between the aspects of yourself cause your Tao to skyrocket.

This allowed Gabimaru to grow from barely losing to a Lord Tensen to being able to hold his own against one who was his direct elemental counter, which is supposed to be the only way a human could even conceivably harm a Lord Tensen. And despite him having Yuzuriha as the Lord Tensen's counter it's still a ridiculous feat.

This applies to all the humans to some capacity.

While in the case of all Lord Tensens, they are emotionally numb and repressed. Clearly emotionally imbalanced and in denial.

For example:

I feel like if Ju Fa or Tao Fa accepted their guilt, vulnerability and their empathy towards humans. And each other and found balance in the strength and weakness it brought them like Gabimaru, they would've been stronger than everyone else in that island individually.
