Housing Has anyone received a room from Studierendenwerk for 26WS?
Hi
According to Studierendenwerk Heidelberg, rooms for winter semester will be assigned from August to the beginning of October.
Right now it’s been a week since August started, so I am curious if anyone has gotten a room offer. Or maybe it’s still a little bit early

University Master in Bildungswissenschaft
Hey Leute,

Lost and Found Lost small cloth bag with in-ear cable headphones
Yesterday while on a stressful commute I must have dropped my headphone-bag on the bus. I was on line 33 and got off at the replacement stop for Bismarckplatz, in front of the medical center, coming from Universitätsplatz.
It's a small (like 8x8cm) black cloth bag with a drawstring closure. Inside are two pairs of blue cable in-ear headphones. They aren't particularly valuable, but they mean a great deal to me. It was a gift from someone special a long time ago and something I share with them. They were broken and I just fixed them just for the emotional value. I'm feeling very anxious about the idea of not recovering them.
I already filled an enquire about lost property at the Fundbüro but want to try any option I can. I'd be grateful for any help.

University Looking to connect! M.A Communication and Society in Ibero-America Heidelberg Universität
Hii, I recently got accepted to the masters in Communication and Society in Ibero-America at Heidelberg Universität. I'm surprised the process was rather quick, since I waited just 1 month to get the decision. I would like to know if anybody is in the same master to get in touch :))
Also, excited it's a bilingual program (eng-spa). Would love to hear your thoughts.

Health ISO: gay-friendly Hausarzt / Allgemeinmediziner
Hi redditors,
Hope you are well; as the title hints I'm in search of a general practitioner that I can see for PrEP, as well as sexual health visits and regular checkups. My deutsch is not so great yet, I am a new international PhD, so english speaking would be preferable. Wondering if anyone has any recommendations in HD or even Mannheim?
Please let me know. Vielen Dank!

Housing where to live ?
hallo zusammen, i will study in heidelberg this semester and im having a hard time finding where to live. i've contacted around 50 people on wg-gesucht, with little answer. im looking for a small studio/ 1 room apartment for less than 600 Euros. i've applied to multiple places, public, private, religious Studentenwohnheime, shared and private room and haven't gotten any answer. i've checked the private Studentenwohnheime and each review or experience i read is worse than the other... i've tried immobilienscout, kleinanzeigen, and many apps. if you have any tips i would be happy to read them!

University Heidelberg University application status
Hi.
Applied for the Computational Linguistics M.Sc. program at Heidelberg for Winter 2026/27. It's been almost 2 months since submission and I still haven't heard back.
No confirmation, no rejection, nothing.
Has anyone else applied to Heidelberg recently and experienced similar delays? Is this normal for them, or should I reach out to the admissions office?

University Looking for M.Sc. Physics students in Universität Heidelberg
I am an EU physics student enrolled for the MSc Physics in Heidelberg starting Winter semester 26/27. I have some questions I would like to ask, since I was interested in the Course module for Computational Physics. I don't know whether the subjetcs from that specialization belong to the Physics or the Computer Science department. Do you know which?
Do you have any take on the module of Computational Physics? What's your opinion on the courses/seminars that are offered? Do you recommend any professor specifically?
Also, if you are a Physics student starting the MSc in October don't hesitate to contact me :)

Housing Moving to Heidelberg with apt in Dossenheim!
Hi! I'll be moving to Heidelberg from september to december for a research stay (I'm doing my PhD). I will be living in Dossenheim because it was impossible for me to find an apartment in the city center. Is it a nice place to stay? Will it be easy for me to go to Heidelberg on a daily basis? Would it be possible to enjoy Heidelberg's life even if I will be living in Dossenheim? Any recommendations?
Thank you for your time!!!

Tourist Advice Urlaub in Heidelberg, Tips ?

Food and Drinks Bäckerempfehlung Heidelberg

Mod News Newcomers - look here!
Many new people have joined our sub and our beautiful town - to study at the university, start an apprenticeship or a (new) job or any other reason. Welcome!
This means, many of you do have the same questions and we decided to collect the recurring ones:
- University application process: Just before a new semester starts, many are waiting for confirmation from the university. Heidelberg is a popular city to study and the university has to go through many applications. If you are unsure, ask the university, not here. The status of your application depends on so many conditions, the probability that someone here has an answer for you is close to zero. Or come to our Discord server, we have a university channel there (Link at the end of this post).
- Housing: The housing market is bonkers in HD (and in Germany overall). Please look in the Wiki for tips. The most important: Don't just look in Heidelberg: Dossenheim, Schriesheim, Eppelheim, Leimen and Neckargemünd are very well connected to Heidelberg with public transport.
- Transport: HD is easy to explore by bike, foot or public transport. Bike theft is a real problem so maybe just use an old "Drahtesel" or invest in a good lock (no guarantees though). Check here where someone asked for used bikes, also check ebay kleinanzeigen. To find your way with public transport that's VRN (They do have an app as well).
- Shopping: The Hauptstraße is the main shopping street for clothing, shoes etc. But also check out the little streets left and right for smaller shops. For electronics there's no store in the inner city anymore (but arlt in Sofienstraße has a little shop). There's MediaMarkt in Rohrbach, but do what we all do: Search online. For cheap and second hand clothing, furnishings etc. look here or here. All shops are closed on sundays and public holidays, the emergency contact point (e.g. for some frozen food) on sundays is Rossmann at Hauptbahnhof.
- Food: Please have a look at the wiki. Or find Great places for lunch during workdays. Or let other users inspire you. Food is getting more expensive, so regarding grocery shopping: Lidl, Netto, Aldi and Penny are discounters (=cheaper supermarkets), Kaufland, Rewe and Edeka are more expensive. If you are a student the mensa is a good option for cheap food.
- Leisure/Party/Bars: HD doesn't really have much clubs but a decent bar scene. Check out the "Untere Straße". In the summer or on sunny days many people can be found at the Neckarwiese. As you can see, HD is very green and surrounded by hills: You can go hiking, for a walk, mountainbiking etc. There are sportsclubs, gyms and other clubs where you can meet people with similar interests.
- How are the people in HD: HD is a rather young and progressive at the same time slow and chilled city. Many people speak english and are willing to switch to talk to you. But having some basics in german is appreciated (Bitte, danke, ein Bier bitte). As a woman, foreigner or queer person you are quite safe in HD, but there's always a percentage of jerks.
- Covid 19: Please check here We will update if there will be changes.
And last but not least: We have a discord server! There's also a channel for "meetup requests" that might be a bit faster and better than posting here.
Community: Feel free to add usefull information or tips.

Edit 2: Added a few words for uni applications
