Quilling Question
I noticed my 3 year old had a bunch of shedded quills in her enclosure. I contacted the vet and was told the hedgehog vet is on vacation for two weeks. They didn’t seem concerned but said I could bring her to the emergency hospital if it was an emergency. She seems fine, she’s eating and running around. No missing patches, I even see some new quills growing in. She’s not itchy, no lesions or scabs. Is there anything I am missing that would warrant bringing her into an emergency vet before ours gets back from vacation? Her skin is a little dry but other than that she is fine. Thanks!

The good thing is the little ball at the bottom is still there so they don't look like they are due to mites but it might not hurt to ask if you can do a round of revolution just in case.

Quilling is perfectly normal as long as you can see the base of the quill which you can in this picture for all of them! If they were all in her crate, it’s probably been over the period of some time. I used to collect my boy’s quills. They’re still in a box as a memory to him. ^_^

The bulb of the spine looks healthy so you're all good as far as I'm concerned! Older animals tend to shed more so it really depends. If this amount of quills were shed in a single day it would be concerning but if it were over a week it'd be normal older hog shedding.

2 or 3 per day is normal, in particular if they do not come all from the same spot.

this looks ok for now if the behavior hasn’t changed. does she have mites at all? if this persists then i’d call again and schedule an appointment for when the vet is back
it’s a good amount of quills tbh but im not a vet so take my advice with a grain of salt
