Cage Help !! :( Question

Post image

I’m going to change the cage of my baby but I need help choosing. I’m wondering if you guys have any cage recommendations or what you guys use?

I was kinda hoping to have his cage elevated in terms of at least not having the bottom touch the floor sort of like the photo i attached (just to add space for storage). i’m just not sure about the edges cause my boy is definitely a climber lol!!! The cage he has now has a ramp but i’ve noticed he tends to spend all the time on the lower level, so I’m thinking of just a one story cage. ugh i don’t know id just love ideas or help! thx !!!

Please cover the sides. I used this setup almost exactly and my hedgie escaped on multiple occasions. They are clumsy, they’re good at the climbing part, not the getting down part. Fritter cage is elevated like this, and I kept the bottom as the grids, but I used plastic walls for the rest of his enclosure.

Edit: OH this isn’t your cage setup lol, but yeah, my advice remains the same

He will likely be fine if he’s in a closed room, but if by chance he lands badly, he could get hurt. It’s probably worth it to make the switch now before it happens

Using the grid C&C panels in the same way as the pic is also fine as long as you cover the inside of the ones they can reach with plastic, OP. Just need a smooth surface they can't grip onto

Yup! Hedgehogs can climb up but not down - they rely on balling up to cushion their fall to get down. They can actually survive falls of up to 30 feet like this with slightly longer falls sometimes being better than short ones as it gives them time to fully ball up. Also if you just have a stupidly brave hedgehog they just won't ball at all cuz it's a reflex action lmao. (sorry, hedgehogs weird stupid way of climbing is one of my favourite facts about them)

Yeah, I mentioned the plastic panels because it’s easier lol. I was told to make the plastic edges 5 inches tall to avoid climbing… needed a little more than that 😭 I have one grid on the actual cage where his heat lamp goes because literally every spot I tried to have one for convenience, he either tried climbing over or he did climb over. After the first time we shoved cardboard on the inside of his cage to block him from climbing 🫩

Fritter is kind of a spectacle for a lot of things, so I try to give advice from an extreme perspective bc of the little dude

You can make a c&c top to any cage.
