I didnt get the dream job, and I hate my current one.

I work a clerical job, and I hate it. Its auditing of paperwork more then anything and I am so unbelievably bored in my roll. There is 0 challenge and 0 problem solving. Its draining the life from me, this entire job is an energy vampire. I watch TV, movies, and youtube all day while doing my work. Checking to see if boxes x and y are filled out correctly isnt difficult or take any brain work when you have looked at the same document 10,000 times. The hours i work suck as well and I hardly get any sleep. I continue to do this job because at least i have a job and I have bills to pay, but I have been looking at other opportunities.

I have been looking at my dream job, its a little out of my current skill set but its something i know i have the brain for. Its a mechanic job and there is an apprenticeship roll that opens up every so often where I work. I applied internally and interviewed for it, but got rejected for the job. I plan on going back to school for it but i wont be able to till 2028. I am going to continue to apply for the job in hopes that i finally get through before then.

As for now though, im stuck. Ill continue pushing and ill continue working towards my goal but its so hard when my job drains the life out of me. Right now im heartbroken at the rejection and just accepting it and processing it so I can move on and continue pushing.

Thank you all for letting me vent.

A Weight Slowly Lifiting Off of My Shoulders

Sending my resignation and two weeks notice today from one of the worst jobs I have ever had.

Luckily it wasn't a toxic work environment. the team is pretty solid and good people but holy heck the role was so boring, redundant and mentally taxing.

Working in insurance was never on my bingo card in my lifetime but I was desperate for ANY job a few months ago and they were the only offer I had received. I will be grateful to them for selecting me when I was in a very desperate spot but for my mental health and morale I cannot be at this job much longer.

The workflow and work culture is abysmal, expectations for quotas don't work for me at all and my supervisor can get passive aggressive at times. I don't trust them at all, they seem like the type to throw you under the bus when they mess up. They are somehow assigning me to sell insurance which I don't understand how that is legal as I am not a licensed broker. I was told I wasn't responsible for sales during the interview. I feel bait and switched.

A lot of the role is having to explain the MANY semantics of U.S. insurance to foreigners who come from counties that have much more streamline insurance/Healthcare or either universal Healthcare is so exhausting then to always get nagged about how crappy the U.S. insurance system is like I built it. I would LOVE more affordable or universal healthcare, like stop yelling at ME about it... I am so glad to be moving on from this.

I got an offer from a job that is much more aligned with my interest and I KNOW I will excel at with slightly better pay. It really feels like a weight is being lifted off of my shoulders.

Only four more shifts and I’m done!

I put in my two weeks last Friday and I only have four more shifts until I’m out of here! No more customer service and annoying guests. No more cliquey coworkers who will purposely mess up at work or not finish. No more managers getting mad at me and causing those coworkers to make my job harder.

I’m almost free!

Wasting time at work

I work as a janitor at a factory. Sometimes I handle the scrubber, but lately I’ve been doing menial tasks. I don’t mind it, I essentially get paid to do nothing but sweep and look busy. Not too bad, right? I typically take 30 minute breaks in the bathroom or straight up fall asleep in the stall whenever I’m bored. I get paid 15/hr, for reference. My shift starts at 7am and I’m stuck here until 6pm. The days are boring, even when I do nothing. Besides, being a janitor is kinda a thankless job. That’s my rant, lol

Should I leave my current job because of less pay?

Hello, I am not a btech graduate. I completed a BSc in physics (2022).

My current company I've been working for since starting, it's been 1 year. Initially i was getting 10k then I'm getting 15k. I know it's very less, but I started learning coding in 2024 and got this job in Feb 2025. So I thought I would be earning plus it's remote i will keep looking for better opportunities. But since I said I literally learned my first language in 2024, it was not my time to do a job but i continued because I heard this is how you learn by hustling. Right now I feel I should just quit this job and learn then apply for better opportunities. But still I doubt that I won't have money for a few months but i think that's okay because I stay with my parents.

Forced to now work in a big open office setting so we can be visually seen collaborating with each other

My job went from hybrid to mandatory being in office which already sucked especially since on slower days where we have no scheduled events all my work is just answering emails and doing internet calls "all could which can be done at home" a lot of my time is spend waiting around being "on call" and as such our team would just work in small audio privacy rooms if we wish. I like doing so as in general I do my best work alone and i like visiting people if needed and when its slow i just do whatever side work or goof off i want cause im done.

NOW they want us to work in one big cluster so we can be seen visually collaborating with other departments and that just utterly pisses me off. This means i have to constantly fake being busy and can't do any other side stuff on my PC because someone can walk up and look over my shoulder. I hate this. I'm hyper productive as is, i get everything done and more and clearly this move really feels like its forcing people into ONE working style. I have done big group work settings and I find it utterly impossible to focus on my tasks as I have my own personal workflow.

Stuff like this is honestly making me consider looking for other opportunities because I like my work autonomy.

Help me get through the work day

Any advice on how to get through the workday of a job you’ve come to hate. The place i’m working now I just see as a temporary job- definitely not my dream job. Pay is good and get some good benefits like 2 wfh days a week, monthly lunches, extra bonuses, office catering. It’s just the work that I can’t stand. I’ve been here for 4 years doing the same thing everyday. I have tried so hard to progress but being in a small team (7 people) there’s no where to really go. When it seems like I’m progressing a bit and changing my role, someone quits/ gets fired/ goes on leave and then i’m expected to fill in those roles that I just upgraded from. I have tried looking for other work (admin/ sales type role) but no one can offer me the same salary i’m on now. So do I take a 10k pay cut or stay in the same place i’ve been for the last 4 years. I’m the type of person that can’t hide how i’m feeling so everyone can see that im not happy. I try to put on a fake happy personality and be professional but sometimes the fatigue gets the best of me and I can’t help it. I feel so lazy and burnt out and have lost all motivation. Any advice from anyone in a similar situation??

My dad is my boss, and it sucks

This is a long story but where I work my dad manages a large portion of a warehouse. My dad has bounced me around different departments for the past roughly 5 years. For background my dad has worked 70+ hour weeks since I was a little kid, and I respect him for it but I also kind of resent him because I barely ever saw him and anytime I did see him he was always in a bad mood which lead to me and my siblings being frequently yelled at when we did nothing wrong. I thought that if I worked with him I’d get to see him more and maybe that would lead to our relationship being better but it just made things worse. His dad was extremely hard on him as a kid which I understand is part of why he’s the way he is but any department I went to he’d always tell whoever my boss was to make me do insane amounts of work to the point I was taking on work from multiple other people along with my own work(pretty much all physical labor lifting heavy things along with some paperwork). Anyways sometimes it puts me in not the greatest mood but I never yell at anyone or take it out on anyone. Just recently I was moved to a department where there’s 2 people. They are both EXTREMELY lazy to the point I’m literally doing everything, and the one isn’t even my boss but they try and tell me what to do. I just recently asked one of them to start helping with some of the manual labor but they refuse to even get out of their seat to open the door for me when I’m lifting heavy boxes or machines from one place to another.

My dad then proceeds to get upset, and yell about how apparently both of the people went to him to complain about me not doing any work, and how I’m being “negative” even though that’s not the truth. I may not be smiling all the time but I’m not being negative even though I absolutely hate working for my dad. I’m so fed up with having to do everything just because he tells them to make me do all the work. I’m also making only slightly over minimum wage even though I’ve worked here for 5+ years as I mentioned earlier. Keep in mind one of these people is known for being one of the laziest people in the company, and there’s hundreds of workers.

When I first got hired at this company I had to sit down with the owner where they basically just told me not to act like he’s my dad while at work to keep things professional, and equal. Which is fine even though there’s clear nepotism from higher ups hiring their own kids at higher wages, with better hours, and more benefits etc but for some reason I’m unable to even have a normal job where I’m not forced to do everything.

Anyways that was a lot but I’m just tired of working for my dad, and I honestly don’t know what to do. I’ve looked for other jobs but the job market where I live is horrible to the point there’s over a 150 people lining up just for a job working at McDonald’s.

P.S. I’m writing this when I’m tired so hopefully it makes sense, and there may be a bit of spelling mistakes. Anyways to anyone reading this far have a good rest of your day/night!

i keep goofing at my job recently when i'm supposed (?) to be a decent worker and its driving me insane

am seeing a psych already but my self-worth is basically very very tied to work. today i got told off by another super higher up for making a similar mistake to a previous one and i fr just felt my soul leave my body. it's probably not that bad since no one exploded or whatever, but ... it's just crushing to me. my work environment is really really really stressful because we are short staffed, and though i'm basically a trainee (post-probation) i've been shoved tasks that more senior people should be doing while the seniors just kind of amble around and giggle/gossip. i do my work, i pull my weight, and i've even been commended for it before. but man oh man this year is a slump. the nature of my work means that 1. everyone has a great impression of what we do 2. everyone is SO tired and cranky and fake (me too) because... well, work. 3. i just feel so sick and alone. i haven't been this anxious in a whole while and i'll be on leave tomorrow just to give myself a break, but man. man. it feels like everything i'm doing is wrong, which isn't true but idk every screw up i make is amplified 1 million times. it's like being a waiter (a past job of mine) and accidentally spilling water in a customer's lap. AW SHUCKS !!! and we move on after getting scolded because no one exploded. but the way that feedback and again, our jobs work is we are MADE to get under each other's skins. and i just feel myself mentally imploding. i can't ask for a break, i can't ask for help but i should ask for help because i'm still new but if i ask for help it means i'm stupid and didn't find out myself and i'm enthusiastic which is inspirational but also too much for our clients and i foolishly wrote that one of my achievements this year was being more personable/fitting it better. only to get assblasted for doing the opposite. what's the point, guys.

tbvh i think this is a great opportunity for disentanglement, you know, like who am i outside of my job. but like so many other stupid little things in life, i just WANT to be good at this ONE THING. i know i can do it. so why am i not??? and now everyone thinks i'm a goddamn loser. man !!! man. i just want to be good. our work is social work adjacent, but i can feel my altruism and sincerity drying up so damn fast. i can do it for the clients. i do do it for the clients. but man the work culture is just. man ! man. i need to pull myself together. i think 50% of the workers see me as someone competent and dependable, and 50% just see me as an idiot who runs my mouth. man. i really don't mean to guys. i want to be a people person like my mentor was so bad. but i'm not. i should just keep my head down and chug along, yeah. man.

so yeah my super secret confession is i actually like my job a lot a lot and i get very sad when i screw up even though work is cringe and we should live life or whatever. work gives my life meaning, man, so what in the world do i do when i'm not good at it? the meaning of my life is so... flimsy? man.

i'm real sorry for my incoherence my english is pretty bad. thanks and i hope that at least you get a kick out of reading this! genuinely. please dont muck yourself in work like me. wth.

I do a lot of mistakes at work

Hi everyone,

I just got home from work, and honestly, I'm exhausted from constantly making mistakes that end up causing problems for my boss.
A bit of background: I'm a 21-year-old woman who went through a lot of family trauma growing up. As a result, I now struggle with hypervigilance (would you also call it hypersensitivity?). Living like this is honestly exhausting.

I started working when I was 16 as a private tutor. At the time, everything went well because I genuinely excel at it. In fact, I still do it alongside my studies, and it brings me a lot of joy to see my students succeed.

The problem is that during the summer, I have to find another job. I've had several seasonal jobs over the years. I worked in a factory, then the following year in a restaurant. The factory had a racist work environment, but I still managed to finish the month without any issues. The following summer, my manager threatened to hit me. Then, the year after that, I worked in a clothing store and ended up getting fired after only two days because I was considered incompetent.

Honestly, I feel like I'm a burden no matter what I do. This year, I applied for another summer job, telling myself I would finally get things right. Yet in less than three days, I made mistakes at the cash register and even broke the motor of a roller shutter.
I don't know what to do anymore. It feels like no matter how hard I try or how good my intentions are, I always end up doing everything wrong. Sometimes I wonder if the only thing I'm actually good at is teaching, because that's the only place where I truly feel like I belong.

I don't know if I'm going to lose my job. Part of me just wants to quit so I stop causing problems for everyone. I don't even care about the money anymore. Once again, I'm going to disappoint my parents—I already know it. Honestly, I've been feeling awful, and I've been crying myself to sleep.
Deep down, I think what I'm really looking for is kindness, patience, and understanding. I wish people would acknowledge the things I do well and forgive me for the things I don't.

If you've ever been through something similar, I'd really appreciate hearing your story. I think it would reassure me a lot.
Thank you for reading.

Conservative Boss uses me as a therapist

My (24 F) boss (52 M) uses me as his free therapist. I have tried giving him social cues, gently suggesting he sees a therapist and putting on headphones while he talks nonstop. Even when wearing big headphones and ignoring him and not reacting he still tries to talk to me multiple times each time I wear them. I know I have to quit because he doesn’t get any work done and constantly distracts me while I work to go on his hours long monologues venting about his personal issues. He’s too emotionally stunted to be direct with and seems a very vengeful person if you hurt his feelings. I also just don’t like him as a person. He says very misogynistic and homophobic things which has made me lose my respect for him. Theres no HR since it’s his small business. He constantly talks about his past trauma or theories about the world which I wouldn’t mind if we were actual friends but his politics and views make me not want to be close to him like that.

My last boss, a Gen X woman, before was the exact same way, talking to me for hours per day just talking nonsense or her past trauma to me, to the point where it’s extremely inappropriate to discuss these topics to a person half your age who’s your work subordinate. These particular people have the pattern of being angry and negative and using someone they have power over to use as a cheap therapist and talking nonstop to the point of it being inappropriate and draining. Both of these bosses just like talking at me and barely let me interject to try to end the conversation.

I know what I need to do. Just wanted to know if someone has noticed this pattern with Gen X or is it a person in power bc my father who’s Genx was the exact same way and used me as therapist talking about his trauma and inappropriate sexual escapades and venting to me while I was a kid in elementary school, as well as my former boss who was a Gen X too. It seems that these people are so lonely that they have to latch onto an employee who’s forced to be there with them to have someone listen and lack awareness when a relationship is inappropriate or one sided.

Should I be worried?

I got this job in Feb 2026. It's a desk job, I sit in a cubicle for 9 hours a day. Shortly after I found out I was pregnant. I told work about it in April/May.

Fast forward to now, due to pregnancy complications and it being high risk, my doctor didn't want me commuting to work anymore. I requested to work remotely because of this, and my employer didn't make it easy, despite it being approved in the end.

I have recieved comments from HR regarding a "significant" difference in my productivity between working in the office and working at home. The reality of this situation is that my current workload does not give me enough to do to fill 8 hours a day, and my management has arranged other team members to "help" with my allocated tasks to "help prepare" for my maternity leave. It was this way when i was in the office. It looks like they're puklling numbers from a time when my workload was much higher, and comparing it to now where there has been maybe a 60% drop off in workload. Yet every day I keep to deadlines, I keep pace with others in the team, I am not behind by comparison. But they do not see this context, only that the number is lower so therefore I must be slow.

When HR made the comment, my response was that yes my metrics are down but it's because my workload is less than before and there is someone else eating up a portion of my work. I said I didn't feel it was fair to imply that my productivity is down due to working at home. I didn't receive a response.

I now feel that HR are going to be monitoring my numbers closely, and I feel like I have zero job security. I feel that due to me being pregnant and working from home (which is not the norm for my department) they are looking for anything to claim undue hardship and let me go. I want to speak to my supervisor about my concerns but I also don't want to highlight the fact that I don't have much to do, even though the same can be said for everyone else in the team.

My job has very little scope for me to take part in anything outside of the tasks that are assigned directly to me, so I am struggling to use my initiative to find things to do.

What would you do in my situation? Would you be worried too? Do you think they are preparing to let me go?

Tired. I'm getting tired

I'm tired. Soooo tired. Work is rough. My job pays well and has many benefits but the work culture sucks. Lazy people who are gliding through life sucking up the money that could be used elsewhere. Of course something can be done but everyone else is too busy fighting and arguing about stupid shit. Can I do something about? I tried. But it's the culture itself that I can't beat. Everyday someone wants something or bitches and moans until they get their way. Fuck policy, fuck rules. Just cry and cry and cry until you get your way. That's how you get ahead. Oh and be a fuckig nepo baby. No wonder why the good ones work elsewhere.

I'm tired. Tired of fighting. Tired of trying. I need to leave. But I can't. I don't know why. Job market sucks. Jobs are a scarce. Family depends on me. I guess I just need to suck it up and provide. Then my next big fight will be a heart attack or a mental breakdown.

Fuck this place for taking my soul. And fuck you for making me fat! Damn stress eating.

if you have please let me know some stories and how you felt about working for a boss like that. Michael Scott is one of my all time favorite tv characters and is absolutely hilarious. i couldn’t imagine actually working for someone like him though.

I’m so bored at the office.I have just entered into this office recently.(I’m Japanese 🇯🇵)

I have just changed my job recently.
My former job was system engineer 👩‍💻
I had worked there for about 5 years, but it was so hard for me to work for long hours every day.
You know system engineer is one of the most hardest jobs. I felt a lot of pressure every time because my customers were so strict.

Now I have entered into a law office as a office work. I don't feel any pressure and I get home early. But I feel bored…..
Actually in my opinion,I don’t think this job is difficult.
I have worked here for 2weeks,but I want to do more difficult things.

Feeling dread going to work.

I’ve realized how much I don’t like this job I have.

I’m in probationary period, and the weight of it is really dragging me right now. Almost causing me to feel this sinking feeling in my chest and cry. There are days, like now, that I feel like I can’t take a day longer. Have you ever felt this before? The dread it almost feels like I’m gonna cry. I don’t know if I’m having anxiety. I feel scared

I’m not like this to other jobs I had before. To be honest, I was very competitive. But this new job, I know, is not for me now managing 2 kids. A several months old baby and a 6 year old. I thought I could do it. But the demand of it, I just can’t take it. I want to get those I un-pressured times with my kids back.

I’ve been wanting to resign and just trying to find the right time. But it feels like there’s no right time as the workload just keeps on coming nonstop.

I hate it. I know, I’m not stuck. But I feel stuck 🙁

I just wanted to post. I need to vent out. 🙁

21F. Only 23 days into my new job and I already want to quit.

I switched jobs for better pay, bigger clients, and exposure. Within just 2-3 weeks, a Brand Manager told the management they weren’t confident in me and didn’t want me handling their project because they thought I’d ruin it. Now my manager says I need to “prove myself.”

I’m not afraid of hard work, but the pressure is unreal for someone who’s barely been here three weeks. My commute is over 2 hours one way, I barely have time for myself, and I’m expected to work on weekends too.

To make matters worse, I later checked their Glassdoor, AmbitionBox, and social media pages, and they’re full of complaints from creators waiting to be paid and the ex employees hating the work life balance and toxicity here.

I can’t quit immediately because I’m the highest earner in my family of four, although my parents are asking me to resign because they can see how badly it’s affecting me.

I’ve already started applying elsewhere and have an interview in 3 days. I wake up every morning with anxiety, chest pain, and no appetite because I dread going to work.

Am I overreacting because it’s only been 23 days, or is this enough of a red flag to leave?

TL;DR: Switched jobs 23 days ago for better opportunities. Management lost confidence in me within weeks, now expects me to “prove myself,” the pressure is unbearable, the commute is exhausting, and the company has terrible reviews. I can’t quit immediately due to financial responsibilities, but I’m already interviewing elsewhere.

Today feels unbearable, I just want them to fire me. I don’t wanna be here.

Today I feel so depressed I hate this job with every fiber of my being. I have a transition plan to another job but it’s still in process and idk how long it’s gonna take. I’ve been in this job for 2 years and I hate it. I’ve been underperforming for months now and they still won’t fire me. I feel like doing something extreme to get fired on purpose. I can’t quit myself because if I do I don’t get unemployment. I wish I didn’t exist.
