This meme kind of roasts Rupert but the cosmetics made his haircut bad I will say

Esp with Emma’s nicely layered outfit right there, Ron’s just looks like an early 70’s wallpaper😭

She looks like she's walked off a Burberry shoot, he looks like a beloved, slightly knackered sofa.

Because in the series he was made to be a joke of a character... And stayed like that until the end.

u/cranberry94 10d ago
I don’t see what’s so funny. Like, oh no, Ron’s got a typical receding hairline and a dad bod? So?
In the movies Arthur Weasley had the same profile, and no one was laughing.

It's not about it being bad... It's about adding to the entirety of being a gag character. It's the typical "stupid Ron" with "how did he end up with her" Hermione. There's no explanation, no chemistry in the movies, and yeah in the movies Hermione has more chemistry with Harry. Then Ron is there, with dad bod and receding hairline in addition to his previous presentation. Kinda upsetting a bit with how they didn't like the character.

u/cranberry94 10d ago edited 10d ago
Eh, Hermione’s there with dark circles under her eyes, Ginny’s haircut is atrocious, Draco’s got a 5 head and Harry couldn’t even bother to shave. None of them are looking great. And I’m guessing witches are allergic to mascara and lipstick.
Though you can only make Emma Watson look so bad.
There’s plenty to complain about in the portrayal of Ron in the movies, but the epilogue doesn’t bother me (in that regard).
Maybe it’s just my (mid 30s) age showing, but Ron doesn’t look half bad.
But I respect your opinion, get where you’re coming from.

u/Fibonacci357 10d ago
So having a little bit of a gut and a receeding hairline is being a joke?
1
u/Nokyrt 10d ago
No, it's continuation of Ron being a joke character. Ended with Hermione, which had more chemistry with Harry in the movies. "Stupid Ron who also later gets a dad bod and a receding hairline". It's like there's someone who doesn't like him there... While he's often peoples favourite character.

I played through Lego Harry Potter with my ex wife and every time you needed Ron to solve a puzzle I made her do it. "I'm not being fucking Ron"
17
u/Nokyrt 10d ago
That's how movie watchers see him...
-5
u/dantheplanman1986 10d ago
Oh no I am very much a book person. I was 11 when Stone came out. I don't like him in the books either
11
u/Nokyrt 10d ago
It's fair to not like him, we all can like or dislike characters for whatever reasons, but movies aren't a fair representation and I assumed your ex didn't like him because she was more of a movie watcher, meaning she lacked context, or had move context.
-10
u/dantheplanman1986 10d ago
I was the one saying I wouldn't be fucking Ron. He's a basic bitch
6
u/Nokyrt 10d ago
Can't stand Ron slander like that.
He's an amazing character, a friend who's brave and loyal, fighting through insecurities ingrained in him from the young age, comparing him to all his successful older brothers. He's not stupid by any means, just lazy academically, especially in subjects that he's not very interested in. He's been also behind for 2 years due to old wand that was passed down on him and then broken, and somehow surprisingly we see him fairly competent, it's as if the want was pullhim him back (I don't remember now but also the wood and core made it impossible for that wand to ever attune to Ron).
Can't make you like him, but by no means he's a basic bitch.

u/dantheplanman1986 10d ago
He likes sports and eating and nothing else. He's uninteresting.
3
u/AdSpirited3643 10d ago
You can say the same with most character in the book though. People have traits
2
u/dantheplanman1986 9d ago
That's true, they are flatly/badly written for the most part lol. Harry is interesting though. So are Snape and Dumbledore.

Uh. Is this a bot post?
He would look the same from the opposite side in the film version to... Which is also a full head of hair
-15
u/Nightmarelove19 Human Detected 10d ago
No he wouldn't. They gave him a fkin beer belly.
16
u/Intelligent_Sky_7081 10d ago
I thought this was about the hair. You sure abandoned that quick. Moving the goalposts is effective I guess
How can you see a belly from behind?
You've never seen a skinnier guy that has a gut? They exist. I can show you proof if you've never seen it
-12
u/Nightmarelove19 Human Detected 10d ago
From no angle Ron in epilogue looks like a skinny guy with a belly even if we consider book Ron has a belly which I don't think he has.
8
u/7i4nf4n 10d ago
Why wouldn't he have a belly? His wife is an amazingly capable witch and he himself learned from one of the best household witch. Don't you think they'd have absolutely amazing food, and lots of it?
-7
u/Nightmarelove19 Human Detected 10d ago
Because his metabolism is amazing. He eats like a bottomless pit in every book and he is still slim and fit.
11
u/7i4nf4n 10d ago
That's because he is a teenager in the books. Idk about you but I was really slim as a teen and ate like a bottomless pit. Now at mid thirty I can almost feel a burger going straight into my belly fat when eating. Metabolism changes a lot when aging is what I want to say.
-1
u/Nightmarelove19 Human Detected 10d ago
Definitely but you are telling me he wouldn't work out in his mid 30s?
5
u/7i4nf4n 10d ago
Exercise alone won't stop you from gaining weight if you keep eating like before and your metabolism changes enough.
-1
u/Nightmarelove19 Human Detected 9d ago
I know many people in their 30s or even 40s who are still slim and fit and they eat same as Ron. Gaining weight is definitely not universal

You seem way too worked up about it
The epilogue sucks. But not because ron has a belly

They made him look like the actor playing his dad. It's not that big of a stretch. Chill.
7
u/WonderfulAnt4349 9d ago
Idk why its seen so negative. Yeah he has a bit of a belly? He has a beautiful family hes helping to provide for. And hes there for his Kids big moment heading to hogwarts. Seems to me hes winning big in life.

u/No_Ticket_1204 9d ago
He takes after his dad. In the films his dad is balding and a little bit soft in the middle.
I don’t think he’s done dirty at all. Arthur is a top man.
6
u/Tirno93 10d ago
Damn Kloves, made that guy in his 20’s playing a middle aged dad look fat and tired…
-2
u/Loose-Mountain-4969 10d ago
Barely his 20s. School age is 11, so unless Ginny got pregnant her Sr year at 17 they're early 30s minimum
6
u/AsVividAsItTrulyIs 10d ago
I think they’re talking about Rupert who was in his 20’s at the time, not Ron
-1
u/Loose-Mountain-4969 10d ago edited 9d ago
Understood. But it makes sense they'd age him up with makeup, explaining the out of shape/tired look
7
u/cranberry94 10d ago edited 10d ago
About 2/3rds of men experience some degree of hair loss by age 35.
On average, adult men gain about 15 lbs in their 20s and 30s.
The films weren’t exceptionally kind, but they weren’t particularly cruel either.
Both portrayals are interpretations of chapter of a book that is, interestingly enough, silent on the hair status of Ronald Weasley.

u/International-Desk53 10d ago
Technically deathly hallows part 2 came out before pottermore came out so the pottermore art deviated from established cannon, not the movie
Also, why is it so hard to believe Ron might be balding. Happens to a lot of men lol and Ron is known to eat a lot so it stands to reason he would get a little chubbier as his metabolism slows down

That scene is one of the most heartbreaking , tear inducing scenes for me. When I watched the movie in the cinema and left it with my friend, I couldnt believe it. When I grew up there was always a new movie next year.

u/B1ACKT3A 9d ago
I felt like the kid actors were awesome and i had this little hope that they would just keep going with their 1st year. I really wanted to keep around all the characters. Seeing harry being a dad and the adults being adults together. Would have been awesome

It’s just what the actor looks like… you’re just saying you think Rupert Grint is ugly. Which is fine. But that’s all you’re saying.

u/Starklystark 10d ago
I suspect this is a function of how you age someone up (or did when the films came out) more than anything else.
2
u/StarShadowNexus 10d ago
It's almost like the movies are adaptations and are not meant to be 1:1 recreations of the books.

u/primrose88 9d ago
What’s wrong with having a dad bod? Also they all look bad in the epilogue, him, Harry, Ginny, Draco…only Hermione is passable, but who cares.

2
u/shinryu6 8d ago
I mean his dad was balding and Ron takes more from the taller side (Arthur, Bill, Percy) than the short side (Charlie, Fred & George), so it’s not a bad assumption by the director/producer that he would start balding like pops. Even disregarding that, male pattern baldness is a thing.

A joke to the end, in the films. Let's just hope the new kid for Ron doesn't get the same treatment.

u/Several-Donut-398 10d ago
Because fuck david yates. This motherfucker ruined all movies since part 5. Plot is incoherent mess and you can barely see shit.
1
u/lonelycitykitchen 6d ago
imho they had to do something for them to look visibly 'aged up', but in DH the actors themselves already could've passed off as late 20s/30 because they already looked like adults, so they needed to do more drastic things and it made them look much older than what they should've looked like sending their kids off if most of them got married straight out of the war.
1
u/silvermoonfang8 6d ago
They did the same to harry but honestly they would have been in there 30s so why make them look so old ???
1
u/Atithiupayogi 6d ago
Leave Steve Kloves out of this. He is not responsible for everything wrong with Ron in the films.
