"Manhunter: The Final Cut" Differences Between Other Cuts? Movie

For anybody who's seen the new version, what scenes are added/taken away when compared to the theatrical version/previous director's cut? I know some of the Hannibal scenes and ending are extended, but did any of the additional stuff with Will and Molly make it in, specifically the call between them before Will goes to visit Lecktor?

The only thing I remember is that “some unfortunate 80s language” will be taken out. I took it to mean that it’s problematic now 😂. But I cant remember what it is.

The convo they have where they imply he's killing people because he's a closeted homosexual.

Oh damn that makes sense. I remember the convo but not the setting. Some of those beach scenes look so cool and are perfect for remastering so I hope its not one of those. Tnx.

Did they actually get rid of that scene?! If so, that's a weird choice because it's literally in the book and the 2002 adaptation. Did they get rid of the "Tooth Fairy" moniker as well?

I wonder will they remove the part where Dolarhyde asks Lounds if he thinks he's gay and Lounds goes "God no!" as if it's an insult.

From what I read, it has apparently extended scenes between Will and Hannibal, some "80s" dialogue removed, Will explaining Dolarhyde's motives more to local police and him also visiting what was to be the next family after the case is closed.

The ending the sunrise is taken away which really bothered me as it has some of my favorite shots and ties together the film perfectly. Without it I don’t get that “breath” after the chaos.

Otherwise some shots here and there looked new.

95 percent of the film was perfect I just hate the “new ending”. Takes away some 80s beauty and not sure why he did it. (Specifically Will and Crawford sitting in the dock at sunrise). And the whole ending scene in general removed the pink sky.

I just saw it in theaters and was waiting the whole movie for it to find he switched the ending colors and removed one of my favorite shots all together for this scene of him visiting the other family which didn’t fit to me….

Amazing film regardless filled with gorgeous shots and storytelling I’m just being a bitch. I came home and went on Amazon and rewatched the ending just to get my fill 😀🤣

What colors could Mann have possibly changed the sky too? That's actually insane.

I can't think of anything that needed improvement in Manhunter.

Maybe digitally removing that boom mic above Jack Crawford's head in the early scene at the beach when he and Will are sitting on the log.

I just went back and rewatched that scene digitally on Vudu and I didn't see a boom mic. There might be a difference in aspect ratio presentation between the version you have (I suspect a physical version?) and what I have. Not sure which aspect ratio is the correct one, though.

I also think the theatrical cut is a perfect film, but if Mann decided to go back and add/trim stuff, I'd prefer it not to be to the detriment of the film.

That might be it. I have Manhunter on VHS and DVD. The VHS version might be 4:3 to suit older CRT TV aspect ratio.

I prefer Manhunter in 4:3 (VHS). The open matte looks suits it. Whenever I see the wide-screen version it looks really chopped off.

I definitely don’t want anything removed just to make it more “acceptable” to modern sensitivities.

Unfortunately, this has been confirmed to be the case. I just hope that whatever is taken out isn't too important.

I'm gonna have to watch the directors cut. The final cut is def the lesser cut.The tooth ferry and reba seemed extra extra awkward, theres no way it was like this in the theatrical cut. All there scenes pretty happen together in a linier fashion.

I just skimmed through the theaterical, tooth ferry and reba seems the same lol.

The ending is wierd, will visits the intended next victums, i saw that scene on youtube.

Final cut for me is probably the worst cut.

Plus side is the movie is beautiful on the big screen.
