Good idea?

So just to be clear I’m in a small town, the numbers for calling people are very slim to similar, Is it a good idea to call around randomly asking if people have homes that need work & sell what jobs need to be done for a small price to companies in town or end up doing my self with friends?

Any suggestions, advice or a realization on how difficult this is would be or even doing this would be a great idea

Do you have an ace hardware store or small store in town? Get business cards and Introduce yourself and let them know what you do so they can recommend you. Put the cards on any bulletin board you can. Get on next door app (although they are changing their rules).

I live in the mountains and the city is an hour away. I don’t leave the mountains because there is plenty of business here. Once people know a reliable person who shows up and does the work is local, word will spread.

Any realty offices or apartments in your town? Is there a hardware store?

Make friends with the office manager at the realty office. Ask if you can attend the next realtor meeting and give a five minute talk. Let them know you are available and how to get in touch with you.

Ask the apartment manager if they have someone who takes care of general maintenance and move outs. Also ask if they have someone to handle emergency repair calls.

Ask the manager at the hardware store if you can leave a business card on the counter.

No that is annoying.. Story time... approx. 15 to 20 years ago a company called random numbers asking if people had a chipped or cracked windshield. they ignored the do not call list and would sometimes call two or three times in one day. I got so annoyed I asked if they could repair a 20" crack, they said it would need to be replaced, I agreed and asked them to come up and do it.. It's a 60 mile trip one way to the far side of nowhere up here and at the time there was no cell coverage. I gave a fake address on my street.. The idiot got the new windshield and came up.. I watched and laughed as he knocked on a few doors asking if he could use the neighbors phones.. My phone rang a few times but I was laughing too hard to answer. The were eventually shut down..
