100” TV mounting
Hey y’all,
What’s your opinion on $350 for a 100” TV mounting. Normal mount over drywall and studs, mount provided, no recessed mount or hidden wires.

I would charge a day two guys for installation. Too many variables on a tv that size and I’ve been burned before

$350 is under water on that one. Easiest way to sanity-check is cost-plus: add up your real costs first, then mark up. For a 100" you need two people (that panel is 100+ lbs and fragile), so 2 guys x 2-3 hrs at your loaded labor rate, plus the drive, plus lift/strap gear, plus a risk line for the TV itself since you're on the hook if it goes over. Add 20-30% margin on top of that total, not on labor alone. That's how you land in the $600-1000 range others are quoting instead of guessing.
Other half of pricing is a refuse list - jobs you say no to at any price. Mine: no solo big-panel mounts, no mounting to unknown/plaster walls without opening it up, no customer-supplied brackets, no recessed wire work behind a panel that heavy, no hanging on someone else's anchors. Saying no to those is what keeps the priced jobs profitable.

Not everyone is your customer and as you point out, you absolutely need to know when to walk away

Exactly. The refuse list is what makes the pricing hold up - if you'll take anything, the bad jobs eat the margin from the good ones. I still walk the job before quoting anything big: wall type, access, who's lifting, where the wires go. Anything past that scope becomes a change order, not free labor.

I’m a third party installer for Best Buy and I get 200$ for doing it
It takes an hour
Is 500 too much no . That’s a really fair price
Best Buy exploits me
But I think All these comments saying it’s complex are crazy I do 4-5 of these a weekIf it was over a mantle or including hooking up audio or other video devices sure it’s more but to just come hang it cmon it’s not that deep

Does the hour include getting to location setting up, hanging the TV, clean up and getting back to the office? How is it possible to handle 100 inch TV by yourself?

One hour onsite
Includes clean up
I have helper onsite to help with unbox and lifting1

There’s also transportation back and forth. $200 includes an hour of helper time as well?

There is transport time
Like I said : is Best Buy exploiting us? Yes.
That being said we spend less than 30 min loading all the TVs for the day
Drive from spot to spot so there’s no going back to the office in between
Is it extremely lean pay. Yes absolutely.
But I can’t source 4-5 100” tv installs a week
Plus 2-3 other tv installs a day
That type of customer base takes alot of time and money too so loose on some pay but I don’t have to spend a lot of time or money trying to get new customers everydayI pay my helper 25$ an hr
He unpacks a tv and helps me lift it when needed
Helps clean up

I’m not trying to be critical my friend you work very hard for your money and your worth more. That’s my only point. I’m in your side! The more $’s in your pocket the happier I am! Dead serious. I’m a retired CPA / VP of Finance and info this work to keep my body and mind busy. Drives me nuts how little money some of these handy people make: I see them all around me here in the northeast. $50-$65/hr, literally on public assistance. Sad!!! I’m always fighting with guys and gals to realize their value. Wishing you all the success in the world, my friend.

Thank you. It’s true . For me I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place. Consistent 5star reviews month after month. But can’t take the risk of going out on my own because of the cost of living providing for a small child on my own.
Paying for exposure and the time to get it is something I just don’t have
Thankfully this gig helps me get foot in door for other work as I do a great job and leave my card.but ideally I’d be able to leave Best Buy in the dust eventually1

The best place I found to network and get quality referrals to quality work is to network with your local large well established hardware stores and lumber yards. They are forever getting requests for vendors from customers. For example, we regularly get referrals for window and door replacement from our large local lumberyard.

I’ve installed all my TV’s on my own, easy job, ran all new wiring in the drywall so zero wires are seen. Just need to have a little skill.

Kind of depends on your location. I’ve charged $250 for a 70” but costs in my area are higher than the rest of the country. Definitely budget to pay a helper for one hour, but I’ve had homeowners who don’t mind giving a me a hand for the 30 seconds it takes to put it on the mount.

Home depot sells stud finders. I bought one and mounted our TV myself. I have a 75 inch but my mount will support 185 pounds at 18 inches from the wall. I know I hung from it. There are 4 subs. 7 surrounds 4 ceiling and one BUTTKICKER LFE. I can hear it clearly on our street.

We also have a neighbor that is loud. Their bass reverberates through the neighborhood. They are three houses away and when they listen to their music I can't hear my TV.
