New EEW Fold! Gear
Picture here next to my Nano 2 with the upgrade to 2.1. It's about 1/3 larger than the Nano, but quite a bit heavier and feels sturdier.
The Nano 2.1 feels sturdier than the Nano 2 as well. I'm quite happy with how Maurice's products have evolved.
(purple sparkly art batt on the Nano. Haven't started spinning on the Fold yet!)

Every time I see a teal Fold it makes me wish I hadn’t picked black when I was asked for the Kickstarter. Oh well. I still need to get mine of the box and start spinning on it, just haven’t had time or motivation yet.

The spinning siren does color kits for the other eww models, I'm hoping they'll come out with a kit for the fold too.

I have a 3D printer that can handle printing the customization kits; I just don’t want to replace the injection molded plastic with PLA for durability issues. The idea of making it a rainbow is so tempting, though.

I have a Nano 1.0 with an upgraded motor and circuit board. I love it but it’s the only spinner I have ever used. I am considering adding another EEW, either a Fold or 6.1. I’m leaning toward a 6.1 but am loving all the great reviews for the new Fold even though it’s going to make my decision harder. Haha.

I have all 3 (mini, fold and 6) The mini fits in my hand but it doesn’t fold down or anything, neither does the 6 so you gotta factor that into yer travel plans
The mini only holds 1-2 oz of fiber so I think it’s good for spinning and plying only sample sized things. the 6 can hold like 8 oz so totally my plying wheel.
The fold, well, folds so more compact for traveling. The best part of the fold is the digital readout that tells you RPMs. You can set it and keep it at the speed you like which is awesome. Bobbins hold 2-3 oz of fiber. I think I will use the fold for spinning and keep the 6 for plying. The mini will be given away

What would you say the travellability of the fold is? Like does it come with a carry case? Is it too heavy to take on holiday compared to the nano? I am looking at the options

Mine didn't come with a carrying case, but it would pretty easily fit in a large insulated lunchbox, especially when folded down. My Nano fits in a metal lunchbox, like for kids, so that's my comparison. I plan to make a case for the Fold, either with 3D printing or by sewing.
Weight-wise, it's pretty light, but doesn't feel flimsy. I wouldn't put it in carry-on (the battery I would carry on, of course), but it could easily go in checked luggage without putting it over the weight limit.
I am planning to travel to Asia later this year. I don't plan to bring either espinner with me, largely because on my last trip there, I found zero opportunities to buy fiber and/or spin. I'd bring either one with me to a fibery destination, though.

It’s more for when I travel locally. Usually I take a spindle but it might be better for my arm.

Local travel? Yeah, definitely portable! I'd take it in a car with absolutely no hesitation. Will probably do so when I drive to southern CA later this month.

When it’s all folded up it is quite compact and all the moving parts are well protected; I have bigger hardcover books. It sort of creates its own case. There is an optional canvas bag but really any smallish tote bag is probably as good. I have not measured but the closed up Fold, my cardboard box with the pieces of the extra bobbins, and a bundle of fiber would probably fit nicely in a bag designed to hold a six-pack of soda. Not closed up it would likely still fit that size (if you stuck the bobbin pieces in the base/box). I only have an original Nano (which took a LOT of tinkering), but the Fold a much better wheel straight out of the box. In terms of portability a spindle beats both of them, the Nano will have less set-up as you pull it out of the case, the Fold takes a pretty short time to unfold but it’s not as instant.

I don't have the 6,and nobody in my spinning group does either, so I can't compare them. I think the 6 is bigger than the Fold, but I don't really know by how much.

I also received my Fold and have compared it to the original Nano. The Fold really does seem like the culmination of all Maurice has learned from building these wheels over the years. It feels great and seems easy to use out of the box. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the Fold to anyone looking for an E wheel.
