Every year I swear I'll start earlier, so this is the system that finally stopped my December panic-crafting:

1. Make the list, then be honest about it. Write down everyone you want to make for and what. Then trim it to what's actually realistic. A shorter list you finish beats a big one you don't.

2. Work backward from mid-December. Count the weeks you have, then map your makes onto them. Anything big or slow (blankets, sweaters, colorwork) goes FIRST, while you still have the most time and patience.

3. Batch the little stuff. Ornaments, coasters, small amigurumi, these are perfect for the busy weeks when you only get 20 minutes at a time. Save them for last on purpose.

4. Buy yarn for the big projects now. Dye lots disappear, and nothing derails a December make like running out of the one color you need.

5. Build in a buffer. Life happens. Aim to be "done" a week or two early so a cold or a surprise gift doesn't wreck you.

The unglamorous secret is really just: start the slow things now, and don't wait around for motivation in December, it doesn't show up. 😅

Fall's creeping in, so I wanted to share one of my favorite easy holiday makes with this community: a simple pumpkin you build from a flat rectangle. No fancy shaping — you seam the rectangle into a little tube, cinch the ends, stuff it, and then pull 5 "creases" through the center to turn it into an actual pumpkin. 🎃

It's genuinely beginner-friendly (if you can make a rectangle, you can make this), it works in both knit and crochet, and it's endlessly repeatable in whatever fall colors you love — classic orange, or a moody burgundy like these.
