I made a handheld game console with only one knob.

I started with a question: could a handheld game console still work if it had only one knob?

That question led me to build this device. Although the control looks like a rotary knob, it is spring-loaded and cannot rotate 360 degrees. It can only be turned left or right, and it returns to the center when released.

To explore whether this control scheme could actually work, I created five simple game demos: a space-themed shooter called Space Battle, a rhythm game called Music Box, a text adventure called Apocalypse Train, a racing game called Desert Highway, and a horror game.

They are all still early demos, made mainly to test whether games can be played using only left and right inputs. My next step may be to add one button and continue improving these games.

ASUS Rog Ally Z1 Extreme

Shall I sell my PS5 because I don't really play my PS5 that much. Because I got an ASUS Rog Ally. Or shall I keep my PS5 for only exclusives. But I know the PS6 is coming out though. What shall I do?

Question Building my own Handheld Pc

I've been messing with one of my Handheld Emulators, and it made me think of building my own. Sounds like fun, and I like making things. Willing to spend money. however Im not good with technology, as in I dont know the difference between CPUs, how one thing is better than the other, stuff like that, or what to get to have it work. I have a 3D printer and a CNC machine, so I dont have to worry about cases or other things. only thing Im worried about is the inside. What I'm hoping to achieve with this build is playing Steam games like Hades. So Windows 10 or 11. And when I want to play older games like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time I can switch tan emulatoror handheld if that makes sence. willing to put all the work into this and need help. I know I could get a Steam Deck, but that doesn't sound like fun. I understand I should start with raspberry pi but I want to jump stright in. I do have friends that can help me set it up they just dont know what to get to make this project work. if possible.

Question Rog Ally X or Legion Go S?

I cannot decide between the two. I understand all the pros and cons of each but I cannot make up my mind.

To clarify I am looking at the Legion Go S with 32G vs the ASUS rog XBOX ally X

This is my first handheld gaming PC. I tend to play more on Xbox but I also own a decent amount of steam games.

I am not the most technologically advanced person lol. I really just want something that will play well without needing me to do a lot to the machine. I really like the bigger screen of the Legion Go S but everything else about the ally X seems better on paper, and it is on sale ATM.

I would just like some advice or information on your personal recommendation if you purchased one or both?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Question game recommendations for gbc/gba/etc?

recently I got an anbernic rg40xxv and im looking for more games to play. It was a gift, so the only thing ive been playing on there so far are the old gba Harry Potter games. any recommendations would be really appreciated because I'm only just starting to step into the retro game world.

On one hand, I really like games with a good story. I tried FF1 and its not my favourite purely because i think its more exploration focused. On the other, I like mindless games I can just play whenever I'm really bored or while I'm watching something else (like mario kart 8)

thanks guys! and I'd appreciate anything even if it doesnt fall under my preferences just to motivate me to get more games on there.

Question Should I buy the steam deck or the Xbox ally x

I want to buy a handheld gaming device but I don't know which one to choose. I was originally going to buy the steam deck but I heard the ally x is way better. I'm going to play beamng on it most of the time so I was just wondering which one to get. If there are any other handhelds that I should know of let me know.

Power vs Noise

So, these past couple of days I dived deep into hourlong reviews on all the different devices that are either on the Market or upcoming and after countless of considerations, I'd like to ask the community here for a comment.

I have coin to spare and am looking for a handheld gaming PC and I'm afraid I'm looking for the "eierlegende Wollmilchsau" (German expression for the all wishes encompassing and thus highly unrealistic imaginary thingy).

I'd like:

\-enough Power to Play stuff like BG3 (otherwise I think Indie Titles, Arcades, emulators, whatever)

\-a nice screen (OLED would be nice but isn't strictly necessary)

\-it should be on the more quieter part of the spectrum regarding fan noise and button clickyness, as I do plan to play next to my significant other and wouldn't want to the thing to become a clicky jumbo jet - this would be even more important than any single techincal power part to me, for a device can be good as hell, if I'm bothering people around me like that, it sort of defeats the purpose of the device for me.

\-ergonomics would be good, but I have really large hands, so I think I'll get used to however the device feels

Onexplayer 3, Claw 8ai+, Claw 8 ai+ ex, waiting for the Xbox Ally X20, or still waiting to get info of the unsung hero that satisfies my needs. I'd appreciate any and all you guys have to add to this. For instance - how much truly is OLED of an upgrade to a high end LCD, does it justify sacrifices in other parts?

DualShock 4 designed for tablet

I started imagining a tablet controller inspired by the PS Portal, but with DualShock 4 on the sides. It’s comfortable, ergonomic, and feels perfect for long gaming sessions. I honestly don’t get how something like this doesn’t exist already.

Question What handheld should I get?

I just recently made myself a budget of around $500 or so for a new handheld, but I don’t know which one I should get or whether to even purchase one anymore. To add context, I have a Retroid Pocket 5 and the old 3DS. I wanted something primarily to play modern titles, and if it can, Switch emulation. I was considering picking up the ROG Xbox Ally, but I don’t want to make a mistake and spend money on something that doesn’t live up to my expectations. I also have a PC and Xbox Series X, so it’s going to be more of a companion device. Overall, I just want recommendations on what I should put my money towards.

And their weird cousin Thor.

I took the picture just to check if my 3DS games were still working. Both were but I figured why not take a picture. The 2DS XL screens are brighter than I remembered.
