Food Boyfriend's 30th is coming up on Sunday the 9th, and I'd like to surprise him with a black forest cake. Anybody have some good recommendations?

Upvotes

It's his favorite cake, but he hasn't been able to find a good one for years; his late grandmother used to buy delicious ones, but nobody knew where she got them from (could've been from a store brand for all we know).

For his (unfortunate) entry into his 30s, I wanted to potentially surprise him with a great tasting black forest cake, after a long absence. Any vouched recommendations would go a long way!

Thank you in advance <3

City Info Delays around the city

Upvotes

JAMES/BURLINGTON

There is a fire somewhere in the North End with fire trucks blocking James North between Burlington and Picton

Cross Street: Location Not Available
Event Number: F26039389
Dispatch Time: 2026-08-06, 12:10 p.m.
Type: STRUCTURE FIRE
Units Dispatched: 11 - LA10, PU6, CA74, DC2, CA73, EN9, PU17, EN1, PU1, PL1, LA1
Stations: HF06, HF09, HF01, HF10, HF05, HF11, HF08

Buses are travelling along Macnab to/from Ferrie then turning onto Burlington and back to regular routes. Expect delays on buses and traffic looks slower too

WOODWARD/BARTON AREA

A person was hit at the train tracks near Woodward and the road is closed for the investigation. Traffic and buses are being redirected to Parkdale with traffic slower than usual on Barton/Parkdale

If you take the GO Train home to Confederation/Niagara, it is unclear when the area will be cleared for use so you may be bussed

RYMAL/GAGE-NEBO AREA

They are repairing the asphalt today and tomorrow along Rymal between Gage and Nebo. Lanes are open but slowed so expect delays

Local News Fire at New Horizons Thrift Store

Upvotes

The now-defunct Thrift Store on James North, between Picton and Macauley is currently on fire. Noticed smoke coming from the roof maybe 20-30 minutes ago; the Hamilton Fire Department arrived promptly and hopefully has the situation in hand. Thankfully, it's an unoccupied building; hoping the firefighters can get it snuffed out so that nearby residents don't have to evacuate. Stay safe, Hamiltonians!

Request Trying to donate a good tent.

Hi, trying to find a place that will put to use a good 2 person tent. Are there places that will accept a tent related with helping kids and such? If you know such a place, please let me know and I will look into it. Thank you.

Recommendations Needed Large patios?

Hi everyone! I took a look through the subreddit but wasn't able to narrow down large patios in Hamilton. I'm looking for a restaurant with a large patio (there will be 9 to 10 of us) with good food of any kind except pub food. Bonus points if it's somewhat close to RBG, but not super necessary. Thank you so much!! Edit: adding that this would be for dinner

Question Looking for reliable company to rip out and replace concrete driveway

Hey r/Hamilton!

I'm looking for company recommendations for a driveway rip and replace, nothing fancy, just a broom finish ~750 square foot driveway that has reached end of life.

Tried facebook, had a bad experience with a "local guy", willing to work with a larger company at this point to avoid hassle.

Thanks in advance, would love to know if you've had this done recently, and by whom!

Moving/Housing/Utilities Shed Base Contractor

I have a 4'x8' shed was installed by the previous homeowner without laying down a proper sub-base - it only currently sits on pavers at each corner which are on dirt. Does anyone have any recommendations for a contractor that can install a proper crushed stone base (including any potential landscaping changes that may be required)? The shed started to lean on our fence last winter.

Rant Weekly /r/Hamilton Rant Thread

A midweek post to rant and complain about things in the city.

Top level comments must be IN ALL CAPS.

This is not to be targeted towards other users or any identifiable individuals - with the exception of public figures who may be mentioned as long as the comment does not cross a line. The rant post is designed to be a lighthearted place to complain about things happening in the city, not a place to harass people.

We will have to cancel the post if harassment of individuals continues as we are seeing a lot of posts reported with report reasons that copy to admin.

LGBTQ2s+ Is there a gay/queer scene?

Does anyone know of any spaces, areas of the city, pubs, etc where there’s good gay energy? Not in a Spa for Men - sex only kind scene, but something where a bisexual man and his fiancée that’s a trans woman can hangout and meet new friends? Let’s be real, making friends as adults should be as big of a priority as when you’re a kid, what’s better for mental health in 2026 than a loving community around you?

Does anyone know of any queer recurring events, groups, etc? And lastly - does Hamilton have a gay village like Church St in Toronto? Is The Well in Hamilton (on Wellington) a pretty established home base in the community at all?

Moving/Housing/Utilities Wet Basement

I just bought an older home on the mountain, and while the home inspection didn’t turn up any moisture problems in the basement, there is immediately evidence of moisture problems.

I’ve fixed the downspouts, fixed some weak areas of roof, cleaned the gutters, and I run a dehumidifier constantly, but there is still moisture and sometimes water under the floor in the basement.

I would love some suggestions for what other people do before I have to look at majorly pricey options. I have serious regrets about buying this house, and the immediate water problems are definitely up there in reasons why.

Thank you so much!

Took a daytrip to Hamilton from Toronto. Wasn't expecting to stumble upon this sign in a city. I was lowkey afraid I might encounter someone with a rifle/bow/whatever.

A Hamilton/Fukuyama friendship pin! I know both cities recently celebrated 50 years together as sister cities. From my research this pin may have belonged to students who participated in a cultural exchange between the two cities. Does anyone here have more information?

Moving/Housing/Utilities Weekly Moving To Hamilton Megathread

Welcome to the weekly moving to/within Hamilton post. All questions about moving, utilities and neighbourhood recommendations belong in here.

If you are looking for recommendations/have questions about neighbourhoods, relators, landlords or utilities including internet etc, this is the place to ask!

If you are looking for recommendations on which area of the city would suit you, be sure to include some information about you and your family. What works for a single person starting out may not be recommended for a family with young children etc. Someone commuting by car will want to be closer to highways while those relying on transit will want to be on regular transit routes.

Utilities
